Ratchet & Clank, SingStar and Uncharted pick up BAFTA nods

Yes, even Lair picked up a nomination on something that's hard to deny -- the soundtrack. For the complete list of nominations, click here.

Winner for inovation goes to... Wii.
but good work sony, hope eye of judgement actually gets popular (which i doubt)
Maximilian Lockwood @ Sep 26th 2007 9:31AM
I like Wii and all, but this is a PS3 fanboy site... Shouldn't the comments be made in praise of the PS3?
Here's to the future man. Eye of Judg(e)ment will be awesome, as will the rest of the AA titles coming out this fall/winter!
Sauvage @ Sep 26th 2007 9:40AM
The real power of the PS3 will come out after March '08 ( cough MGS4 cough ).
It's a juggernaught that just won't stop. It's only just picking up momentum.
Matt B (SDF ) @ Sep 26th 2007 9:44AM
The wii would only be innovative if it had 1:1 controls. Then again, if it did have 1:1, people would hate it because it was too hard. So if you think your dumbed down and still inaccurate controls are innovative, then you fail.

Other than the weird motion controller, Wii hardware is far from innovative. It doesn't have a hard drive, lacks any serious online gaming capability, no dedicated HD or Bluray support, and 80% of its library is based on old retro games.
Most game publishers don't even refer to Wii as next gen considering most of its hardware is based on aging tech. It's a success no doubt, but a comparison between Wii's tech sheet with PS3 or X360 will quickly reveal that Wii's success is based more on it's simplicity and target audience than anything else.

I don't get how they can justify putting games up for award that aren't even out yet. Where's Mario Galaxy if that's the case?
Furthermore, they've even got Okami on there. As much as I personally think that game SHOULD get awards (not that it'd do anything for it's sales at this point, sadly), it came out in November of '06.
...and they've got games there that'll Be out in November of '07.
What the Hell is the time line on this stupid thing?
Trev @ Sep 26th 2007 10:22AM
Yeah, the more I looked at the list the less it made sense. Multi-platform games are only listed for one console, several of them aren't out or were out last year.
Why Bioshock on 360 instead of PC? If it's unreleased games too (Crysis) why not the PC version of Gears that has like twice the content? 5 nominations for Crackdown, including one for action adventure, but Heavenly Sword isn't on that list? Nothing for Killzone 2 or MGS4? How was Halo f-ing 3 not anywhere on that? They give the 360 a bunch of multi-platform games, but ignore the one good exclusive that's come out this year.
That is one messed up list.

From my beloved PS3's perspective it looks like we're up against stiff competition. I'd agree with Sauvage and say that our super PS3 will really shine bright next year.
Popfrogs @ Sep 26th 2007 11:13AM
Wacky list, but these guys are coming at it from a production values angle. They're looking at art direction, animation quality, art style, sound design, soundtrack, etc. BAFTA awards are pretty prestigious although judging from the quality of most BBC programming that makes it here, the Brits have alot to learn about filming anything.
@1: Wii wins nothing more than recycled IP and a dust collection award. It's 95% hype. Look at the alarmingly low attach rate for games, the environmental damage it threatens (Nintendo's manual says don't use rechargeables and the wiimotes eat AA's for breakfast), the god awful graphics. I guess for some people it's cool to sling a controller around drunk, but for me, I'd rather go grab a real bowling ball or tennis racket.
Shadowfish @ Sep 26th 2007 11:26AM
And in sports, where is Pro Evo!? According to some people it's meant to be AMAZING and they havn't even considered it? Far better than FIFA.
Livi70590 @ Sep 26th 2007 12:18PM
@6, Ökami was not released in EU until March 2007.
Emophia @ Sep 26th 2007 12:58PM
Hey, that picture, can you actually do stuff like that in Eye of Judgment? I just might buy it if you can...
ruibing @ Sep 26th 2007 1:35PM
Does anyone know how many nominations typically go in each category? It's hard to argue against some of the nominations. Heavenly Sword had some of the best acting ever and Lair had a really good soundtrack.
Figboy @ Sep 26th 2007 3:12PM
to Emophelia: yes, you can interact with your creature in the game, ie, poking at it with your finger.
i'm looking forward to the game as well, especially because of it's awesome game/eyetoy/lots o' other stuff value proposition.
Figboy @ Sep 26th 2007 3:12PM
edit - sorry i spelled your name wrong Emo*PHIA.
standinside @ Sep 26th 2007 6:36PM

sicklesdawg @ Sep 27th 2007 12:08AM
