American PSN updates for September 27th
The US PSN Store has yet to be updated but still we know what's due to be released. How do we do it? Witchcraft? Voodoo? The Cell processor's built in time-machine feature (it's there, trust us). Actually, none of those things. We check the PlayStation.Blog, just like everyone else. Here're todays upcoming updates:
- Clive Barker's Jericho demo (free)
- NBA 2K8 demo (free)
- Motorstorm Capitano vehicle pack ($0.99)
- Ninja Gaiden Speed Master game pack ($unknown)
- NBA 08 Upside Progression System tutorial video (free)
- Eye of Judgment overview video (free)
- Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock trailer (free)
- Iron Man film trailer (free)
- We Own The Night film trailer (free)

* We Own The Night film trailer (free) Demos for everyone! By "everyone" we mean "PS3 and 360 owners." Today marks the first time that people have got the same demos on the same day, regardless of their console choice. We're excited to try out Jericho and curious to see whether the NBA 2K8 demo will make an impact on which of the three basketball games being released next week people will pick up.

Its like a blogger double posting!!!

Nice! I'll definitely be checking out that Jericho demo. That picture reminds me of Carpenter's Hellraiser.
And also the NBA2k demo since I'm a basketball fan. I do think that EA stepped up their B-ball game though after playing the NBA Live demo.
Tru-blue @ Sep 27th 2007 3:06PM
Also, it's quite nice that all three franchises for the basketball games are coming with a demo. That will help in deciding which one I would pick up instead of having to rent each one.
Metoo @ Sep 27th 2007 3:07PM
Isn't this the third NBA-type basketball game we've gotten in the past few weeks? Can't they think up more creative names? They all sound the same. One from EA, then Sony, now 2K Sports.

@Metoo
well, there are only so many permutations involving "NBA", the year, and something not too cluttersome.
i liked the NBA Live demo and it looked really good, but i didn't like how it played compared to NBA 08 demo (plus in 1080p, NBA08 looked really smooth). i'm interested to see how NBA2K8 compares, but their games have been going down in quality the past couple of years, so, we'll see...
oh...and w00t! Jericho demo - day and date!
marklar @ Sep 27th 2007 3:28PM
good to see PSN keeping up with the awesomeness that is XBL
upz @ Sep 27th 2007 3:30PM
Tru-blue, when you play the Live demo, does it slow to a ridiculous crawl every now and then? Yet if you go into replay mode and come back out, it returns to normal? This keeps happening to me and it seems to have nothing to do with how much is going on onscreen but instead a bug in the backend that's not superficially apparent.
I'm still deciding between picking up Live or 2K. Sony's NBA is awful and looks to remain that way for years to come. If Live has that game crippling slowdown bug, I'll have to pick up 2K.
upz @ Sep 27th 2007 3:33PM
Solace, same question to you. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me confirm this and I'm not just slowly going crazy.
Solace @ Sep 27th 2007 3:44PM
@upz
i REALLY didn't like the gameplay for Live and found it very chuggy in the framerate department. i didn't play it too much, so there could've been slowdown in there that i just thought was due to a bad game engine that you experienced. it had some nice graphics, but the gameplay was crap. i wouldn't be surprised if the final did have slowdown since EA's gone on record complaining about how hard of a time they've had making games for PS3. (well duh - your lead console is the 360 and the two don't exactly share similar architecture).
i actually liked NBA 08, but i'm also playing it on a nice big 1080p TV. i heard that it looks like sh!t on SD. i thought it was more arcadey, and not being a big sports person, liked that about it.
upz @ Sep 27th 2007 4:04PM
Solace, I'm running at 720p/1080i and I'd say that Live's models are better, but at the expense of a terribly inconsistent framerate. I'd agree that Live is more simulation-like while NBA has more of an arcade feel. I'm hoping 2K8 ups both of these, though.

I'll be getting the Jericho for sure, it looks like it could be very cool....and might be worth the 60 bucks.
Justin @ Sep 27th 2007 4:13PM
upz, that happened to me and i thought it was only me
upz @ Sep 27th 2007 4:38PM
Justin, isn't that weird? How'd that slip by their quality department, even if it's just a demo? Let's hope they iron it out in the final.
Anybody have some impressions for the Jericho demo yet?
pat @ Sep 27th 2007 4:46PM

brandon @ Sep 27th 2007 8:53PM
just played jericho. dont care 4 it. like a pussy version of bioshock.
Neil @ Sep 28th 2007 12:31AM
Just finished playing Jericho....I REALLY liked it, I'm gonna have to buy this one for sure.
Popfrogs @ Sep 28th 2007 8:32AM
I'm still not sure about Jericho. I'd call it Generico. It looks like they just tacked on shiny/squishy textures to yet another shooter and turned the lights off.
Also I can't stand the weapons. When you switch to the chick with the auto pistol and the sword, you feel outmatched by anything. The sword slices don't seem like they connect i.e. it's hard to guess your range and I expected enemies to get sliced clean in half when hit by it...but instead they fly away and hit the ground.
I couldn't figure out the range on anything. The telekinesis power should hit far away, but enemies have to be in your face to get hit by it. And you can actually kill with it, which is weird. I thought it'd just be like a "force push" to shove enemies back. Anyway it's pointless since your uber-weak pistol won't kill them (even a full clip of 30 rounds) before they're back in your face again.
So far, I think this game sucks. I'll play through it again to see if maybe it was just me, but it just seemed lame. Then there's the 'falling down a tunnel mashing action buttons on time' sequence. I think I did it 7 times. Guys, I quit playing Dragon's Lair for shit like this. Enough with the timed action buttons.
