PSP-2000 core systems now available

According to various reports from our readers, it appears that PSP-2000 core systems (in Piano Black) are finally available in the wild. We'll admit it: we're frustrated by how SCEA has handled this launch, making it one of the most confusing system launches in recent memory. Instead of providing concrete release dates, the launch of the redesigned PSP appears to be quite stealthy -- is that appropriate for generating hype? We think the confusion surrounding the new PSP's launch will guarantee it comes nowhere near the success it's found in Japan. Unfortunate.
We've heard the system is now available at Target stores and online at amazon.com. Have you been able to pick up a system?

Yes, I saw a few Piano Black PSP-2000 (mixed in by mistake with the $199 Daxter bundle) at my local Target. I got the sales clerk to move the systems over to the properly priced section of the shelf.

I already got my Daxter pack, though it would have been nice to get a Piano Black so that it matches color with my PS3.

I think there was no hype because they were busy firing their current marketing team to get the new one in. There will probably a new campaign with a "now in stores" type of message (preferabbly without racism or grafitti)

They have them at Walmart in Hull Quebec.

New Piano Black PSP Model: PSP-2001PB
Available at most Fry's location
Got mine this past Monday at Burbank, CA
I sent an email to pspfanboy.com that day, but I'm sure they had to verify the tip. I got tipped off of the availability as early as last Saturday.
PS: I suggest you request to open it and power on at the store, in case of dead pixels.
I had 2 dead pixels, went back and exchanged it. They opened a fresh one for me they let me boot it up and check, even gave me a game to test with.

I bought my Daxter pack PSP and discovered that not only was there a dead pixel, but the UMD drive made a HORRIBLE grinding noise when it was loading. I exchanged it and now I have a perfect silver PSP.

Yup got mine from target yesterday. I have a question though. What are some good programs or step to step things for transferring movies and music to my new psp? I bought the PSP Media Manager but its almost useless. Please heeeeeelp.

I saw Core units in Charlotte about two weeks ago at Target. Hoping or a similar situation white the white bundle!
ruibing @ Sep 27th 2007 7:55PM
I got mine from Amazon, there was nothing wrong with it.

Yep, been at my local Target (off and on, they seem to be selling briskly) for the past two weeks or so.

pspvideo9 (It's FREE) is a great prog for transcoding vids to your PSP/PS3. mp3s are as easy as dropping them onto the "MUSIC" (or AUDIO, I forgot) folder on your memstick, this folder should be created automatically when you format your memstick. This goes for transferring videos as well when you're done transcoding, there will be a "VIDEO" folder on the memstick. You can optionally create thumbnails for it as well. Size should be 160x120, I believe. This is the best route as PSP VidMgr is garbage.

They've had 'em at my local Target since the silver one came out, along with the AV cables, as far as I can tell.

I got a Daxter pack (I would've bought Daxter and a Mem Stick anyways..) a few days ago at Target (Best Buy was out). They had plenty of them, but I guess that's not a surprise, as they've been out since Sept. 10th...

I've had the black PSP on preorder at Amazon.com for like 2 months. I finally got a shipping notice today and it will be in my hands tomorrow thanks to Amazon Prime next day shipping.

Ok thanks. I downloaded PSPVideo9 but how do you add thumbnails for videos that do not need to be converted? I downloaded/converted a video from youtube using vixy.net but then i dont know how to add a thumbnail. And how do you get music on to the converter? Sorry if my questions are dumb but im really new to the psp.

I'm probably going to pick one up next week. I don't know which one I'll get though...probably Silver because I never got to play Daxter and I really want to.

They have had these at Fry's for at least two weeks now, sorry didn't know that was news.
