Wal-Mart Canada moving to new, lower 80GB price
Wal-Mart Canada is having an "Anniversary Sale" and one of the more notable sale items is the 80GB PS3 bundle. DailyTech is reporting that the 80GB system is dropping to $550 CAD, which is the same as the current price of the 60GB. According to the report, many Wal-Mart stores are already out of their 60GB inventory, and only have 80GB systems left to sell.
Another price drop would fall in line with analyst expectations. With 60GB PS3s available only while supplies last, it'll be interesting to see what Sony will offer in its stead.

I'm pretty sure this is just a one-off anniversary sale thing. Sony Canada have said nothing about a price drop and Best Buy etc. are still at the usual CDN$659.

that a pretty sweet deal !
if you dont have a PS3 and you live in Canada.. now's probably a very good time to go and get one :)

I so want to buy this, but I shouldn't. I'll swing by Wal-Mart later though, just to tease myself.

Remember Bestbuy and Futureshop pricematch 10% so thats an extra 10$ in your pocket.
navsimpson @ Sep 28th 2007 3:57PM
Oh, forgot to mention - Resistance is on for $40, which is pretty sweet.

Sadly, with regards to Future Shop's price matching:
"Our lowest price guarantee does not apply to advertising errors or misprints, special educational prices, restricted offers, mail order offers, rebates, coupons, premiums, free or bonus offers, OEM products, limited or minimum quantity or limited time offers, close-outs, liquidations, clearances, financing or other special offers."

SCREW THIS.. the Canadian Dollar is freakin on PAR with the USD.. why the fock as Canadians subsitizing teh US PS3?
ruibing @ Sep 28th 2007 4:31PM
Only thing making me think this is not some simple sale is the reason behind a sales like this. You sell items either to stimulate demand or empty out the inventory. Unless they ran out of PS3 all together, I don't understand why they need to drop by $50 and also add in the extras. Even if that was true, it means there's only 80GB left, so if there is no price drop or new SKUs in the near future, there is no point in emptying out inventory. So this could, and I emphasize could, mean a price drop or new SKU in the future.

Anyone buy there games at Walmart? I do because they are 10 dollars cheaper than anywhere else.
Andy @ Sep 28th 2007 4:44PM
Could also be misprint.
Considering its on the flyer only then I bet it is.
Riine @ Sep 28th 2007 4:54PM
no misprint, i just went and got mine.
exolstice @ Sep 28th 2007 4:58PM
It's not a misprint, they're also selling the new PSP for $150.
Andy @ Sep 28th 2007 5:32PM
Hmmm...
Well yay for Walmart, too bad I already have my PS3.

I'm extremely conflicted right now. I want a PS3 badly and after seeing this at the local walmart I came very close to buying it. But with the rumours of a price drop, I dunno what to do ... the price drop may never come or it may come next week!! blah! cmon sony.....
navsimpson @ Sep 28th 2007 6:56PM
#8 - I'd have to disagree. Why would Sony allow Walmart to undercut all other retailers and their own website by $110? I think the reason Walmart would want to do this is to generate PS3 software sales down the road. The PSP and 360 are also on sale in this flyer and demand for those isn't exactly lacking right?

Future Shop is having it's Sony Days Sale right now. Everything Sony is on sale (Laptops, cameras, etc.), and they've got a huge bundle that includes a Bravia TV, a Sony sound system, a PS3 and some other stuff I think for around 2500$. Great buy for someone who wishes to get to HD in one shot ;)
Kspraydad @ Sep 28th 2007 9:22PM
@extolsice
Actually the PSP is a misprint...it is the PSP100 for $149 not the new PSP2000 (as pictured).
I visited 5 Walmarts yesterday trying to get them to honour the picture :) ...didn't work. :(

Keep in mind that this thing comes with Motorstorm and a BluRay remote, with a total value of about $100. Even if there's a price drop tomorrow, it'll probably be on a new barebones 40 gig model retailing for about $425. To get that and the stuff that comes in this bundle, you'd still be paying $525, and you'd have a smaller harddrive and possibly some other missing features.
This is a retardedly good deal, at least compared to normal prices.
sinergy @ Sep 28th 2007 11:06PM
Bluebrake: true....which is exactly why i'm staring at the firmware upgrade right now :) damn I need to figure out how to boost my wireless signal. 20% signal ftl :( it's funny 'cause this laptop is getting 90% signal and it's only 2 feet away from the ps3. time for a new router? jeez...
oh and motorstorm is pretty fun considering i'm not into racing games :D

When I went around 11am in the morning with my friend to walmart, there wasnt really a lot of people buying...went to the electronic store and saw atleast 30 (no lie) PS3's with BDMotes taped in the box.
Forgot to buy something so I went back around 6pm. When I got there, there was only one left...and some lady was buying it. I ask the guy if that was the last one and he said that it was and a lot of people stormed in to get it around 5pm. lol..
Nahiyan @ Sep 29th 2007 4:56PM
I got one today. I have to say, I love it! Great deal.
