Guitar Hero III not so wireless
There's a bit of somewhat disappointing news that has slipped out about the PlayStation 3's version of Guitar Hero III - the game will not be completely wireless.
Although, the game's guitar controller will still be wireless, gamers will have to plug in a guitar pick-shaped USB dongle to get it to work. Apparently, the controller doesn't "work seamlessly with [the] PS3's built-in Bluetooth," according to Wired. On the brighter side, the PS3 guitar will have the controller's symbols marked above the buttons to ease navigation throughout the game.
We're not sure why Neversoft couldn't utilize the PS3's Bluetooth technology, but this shouldn't be a deal breaker to anyone. And since the game will only support two players locally anyway, gamers should have no worries about picking up the 40GB PS3 with two USB ports.

Awww man!!! sarcasm :| wow that not really that bad. maybe they could of made them smaller but its still not that bad.
Skrag @ Oct 5th 2007 3:32PM
What about Rock Band and the 40GB PS3's 2 USB's? If Rock Band ends up needing dongles for it's four instruments, doesn't that present a bit of a problem?
Otsego_Undead @ Oct 5th 2007 3:35PM
what a crock! seriously.. sounds like they just didnt want to spend the money on a different guitar (ill bet the 360 is pretty much the same guitar as the PS3).
john @ Oct 5th 2007 3:43PM
ah man what the hell is going on today. This isn't as bad as the New 40 G BC removal but equally frustrating. Ps3 wi-fi is powerful enough to support their crappy guitars. I guess I have to stop coming to Joystiq for couple of days until all these annoying news are over.

Suck! I bet there was some licensing cost to the bluetooth and they decided to just implement their own instead. Man.... that sucks. What it does mean is that if you have to switch between GHIII and Rock Band, you'll likely have to replug stuff. Boo! Boo I say!
Nate @ Oct 5th 2007 3:50PM
Ooh, just had a thought, maybe some third party will make a pure bluetooth guitar that'll work with both! Come on third parties! Do your thing!
Egster @ Oct 5th 2007 3:54PM
@ Skrag : just get a usb hub cost next to nothing
jimhead @ Oct 5th 2007 5:57PM
maybe they using the usb so it will be compatible with ps2 because last time i tryed it (dont put it in a dishwasher!!!) it didn't work
coplice @ Oct 5th 2007 4:01PM
why is it bigger than a USB key??? why???
wonway01 @ Oct 5th 2007 4:03PM
@#2
USB hub. Cheap and as many ports as you need.
Parker @ Oct 5th 2007 4:17PM
@8. why is it bigger than a USB key??? why???
So they could slap their huge logo on it. Any smaller and you wouldn't be able to see it from across the room.
KillarClown @ Oct 5th 2007 4:25PM
oooh OOOH i just had a thought, buy a REAL guitar!
you'll get laid more.
Dustin @ Oct 5th 2007 4:32PM
ok. Im going to but Rock band first, cause the RB guitar is cooler. Since that is wireless, will it work fine with GH3?
Andy @ Oct 5th 2007 4:34PM
Damn those are ugly. Isn't Bluetooth a fairly cheap thing to license?
TRUTH @ Oct 5th 2007 4:54PM
HAHAHA Don't get your Dongles in a Bunch!!!
eurotransient @ Oct 5th 2007 5:03PM
@11
Says who? You'd be shocked at the talent some Guitar Hero skills pull in at house parties.
Neil @ Oct 5th 2007 5:36PM
The only downer here is the dongle is way too big, a thumb drive size dongle would have been fine.
KillarClown @ Oct 5th 2007 5:45PM
@ eurotransient.. you mean sausagefests? ew dude
Max @ Oct 5th 2007 6:36PM
Is it like that on the 360? Probally since 80% of the PS3 games are 360 ports anyway.
sheamus @ Oct 6th 2007 12:03PM
I hate redundancy. I will not buy this. Anyone know if rockband will have the dongle?
Kspraydad @ Oct 6th 2007 9:41AM
That is completely frigging awful. BT is a STANDARD...there is NO reason for it not to work.
Lame.

your right, I showed everyone how it was done at a house party, I was drunk at the time and couldn't finish 'Sweet Chilld of mine' on Hard (normally I can, or could as I haven't played it for a while) As everyone else was amatuers, it made me look great. You don't feel like a guitar hero untill you impress the ladies.
I can't see why they didn't use bluetooth. At least they could of used a usb drive or just made the cord much shorter.
polar @ Oct 8th 2007 3:37PM
So, why does redoctane say up to 4 controllers on their website?

i really dont see much of a problem i can give jack squat about a usb dongle as long as its wireless and a good game. and i really hate when people complain about this just the fact that your in your room playing with a plastic guitar is beyond me i never used to like this game(now i love it). if your wondering how the wii and 360 work its very simple. The wii guitar allows you to plug in the wiimote directly into the guitar so basically no wiimote no guitar. the 360 does not use bluetooth unlike the wii and ps3 it uses radio frequency easier than bluetooth. so thats why ps3 has to use a usb dongle.
