Free Radical have recently updated their blog over on
IGN, deciding to enlighten us to some of the weapons available in the upcoming, hotly-anticipated shooter
Haze. Since there's a lot to say about each weapon, we're going to give you the shorthand version here and leave it up to you to research further.
- Diplomat pistol -- standard Mantel weaponry, seems most useful in short-range situations.
- Blacksaw assault rifle -- depleted uranium are the bullets, pain is the result. Also available: silenced version.
- Donkey Puncher shotgun -- " ... this high-end shotgun is more than enough to kick any ass presented to you." Enough said.
- Hard Candy rocket launcher -- apparently makes Sloppy Joes out of the enemy.
- Pinpointer sniper rifle -- it's a sniper rifle. Need we say more?
- Heavy Gun -- uh, we're not sure, but it sounds extremely useful. Seems to be a stationary weapon of mass destruction.
- Razor Tongue knife -- standard Promise Hand melee weapon. You can smear it with Nectar, which causes Mantel soldiers to overdose on Nectar if you slice 'em. Nice way to make a knife useful without being ridiculously overpowered (Warhawk).
- Lobo -- the assault rifle of choice for Promise Hand soldiers.
- Oso -- shotgun! Notice the trend of Spanish names for Promise Hand weaponry.
- Mano del Dios -- the "Hand of God" is essentially a minigun you really don't want to see from the wrong end.
- Dragon de la Gente -- take a guess! It's a flamethrower for the people, by the people.
There are more sniper rifles and grenades to be had, but we think you get the point. All of these weapons are, admittedly, standard FPS necessities, but we can't believe this is all there will be offered. Maybe it is. But if not, we're sure there will be quite a few interesting ways to lace Nectar into more weaponry. We're excited for this one to come out, so we'll wait for November with bated breath.

I kind of like high-tech names for guns instead of nicknames like this and the rebels sound a bit too prophetic. I hope there will be even more weapons, maybe even user modifiable like in Crysis.

I'm not really into FPS's but this game is starting to interest me more and more. Mostly because they named the shotgun the "Donkey Puncher".
Paul @ Oct 11th 2007 2:28AM
i still want to know if this is exclusive fully or not.
jr @ Oct 11th 2007 2:39AM
"Donkey Puncher" shot gun LOL, I can imagine how humiliating that's going to be during On-Line multi player LOL. sweeeet

not really digging the names. Hard Candy? what happened to just Rocket Launcher? Dragon de la gente for the flame thrower is just killing it. "Resistance has Dragon already taken! What do we do? Make it in Spainish! Yeah Good Idea!"
and is it just me or does wearing that Bright Yellow helmet in Multiplayer scream "Headshot!"
DownwardMonkey @ Oct 11th 2007 3:18AM
It's been exclusive for sometime now, unless that was changed. As I understood it, it's still a PS3 only title. That kinda peaked my interest in the game in fact, I wish you could stay as the Mantel guys though the game though. They look cool.

Paul, I believe it was a timed exclusive at first but they have announced, about a month ago, that they were abandoning the 360 one all together and putting all of their focus and effort into making the PS3 game as good as they can. My theory is that in 8 months to a year from now, they'll port the game over to the 360 just like what I think will happen with BioShock to the PS3. I could be wrong about both theories but Haze is definitely a PS3 only exclusive until further notice and potentially for good.

long live Mantel!

SWEEET!!! Now Bring It ON!!!

@6: I imagine you'll be able to pick or change your highlight colors in multiplayer, especially when CTF or Deathmatch play is going on...you'll need to easily differentiate between teams. Most games go for Red vs. Blue for whatever reason.
I really hope they go this route instead of expecting you to see the difference between teammates' models. That's one reason I could never play counterstrike; I constantly kept teamkilling by accident.

I went to Las Vegas for the GameSpot conference for managers and let me tell you I played this and this along with Uncharted took the show easily for PS3 THESE ARE MUST BUYS!! Uncharted looked and played smooth and HAZE handles amazing! I hope that with the months coming for HAZE they fine tune the game up because this could be the reason for people to buy a PS3.. OH FOOTNOTE! The biggest let down of the conference by far was Assassins Creed! Looks gorgeous but the combat was choppy and very predictable! I hope they fix it!! I know this isn't a PS3 game but those that own Xbox MASS EFFECT ROCKS!!
T-P-M @ Oct 11th 2007 10:24AM
The Nectar Grenades look cool, turn a whole team nuts in one go :D

That'd be cool too. Different helmets like Halo 3 would be a nice edition also. Halo 3 has a giant 3 digit number code for teammates above there head when your upclose and when they are in battle. it's extremly helpful and haven't shot at a teammate yet so far.

If this game sells a lot and is good could SONY pull a Bioshock?
Neil @ Oct 11th 2007 1:50PM
I'm not a big console FPS fan, but this one is looking very interesting to me. Graphically this one should be one of the best PS3 games when it comes out.
