Living in England I'm curious to understand why Americans refer to Halloween as a 'holiday'. Can anyone answer please?

So I'm reading in to your explanation that Americans celebrate Halloween to an extent where most people get a day off work. WOW!

We use the term "holiday" to signify a special day. In the US we don't say things like "I'm going on holiday." We would say "I'm going to take the day off" or "I'm going on vacation." Unfortunately, at Halloween, we don't get the day off.

I wouldn't say it's a much of a holiday as it is a past time. People don't get off from work. It's a day where most kids and some adults dress up and candy is given out. Parties are thrown all that good jazz.

This was my favourite PSN purchase so far. I love games that don't need any thought. Maybe I should have got a Wii?
