PS3 ways to appreciate the environment: Afrika, Aquavita, Planet Earth

We know almost nothing about the upcoming Aquavita as well -- but we do know this much: it's going to be an Eye-enabled title. With the camera, the PS3 can become a virtual aquarium. Once again, it looks stunning, almost real. But it's not meant to be a replacement for the real thing. Once again, this environment faces real threats on a daily basis, and it's up to activist organizations to help protect the various aquatic ecosystems.
As beautiful as both Afrika and Aquavita are shaping up to be, let's hope it serves as a reminder as to how precious our Earth is. A simple screening of Planet Earth on Blu-ray will turn anyone into an environmentalist. Yeah, the Earth looks great in 1080p -- but imagine how good it looks in real life. PS3 owners have tons of ways of appreciating the environment -- but will they take action to help protect it?

I'm so glad Sony still has offbeat and specialty titles like these. You'd never see stuff like this on the other 2 platforms.

There's a trailer on the Japanese PS Store for a game called Aqua that's done in a very similar style to the Afrika trailer (same title font, same "Working Title" text underneath the title. It looks to actually be a separate title from AquaVita as it highlights large marine animals such whales and stingrays that likely wouldn't fit with AquaVita's "virtual aquarium" theme. Any of our staff or readers know what the deal with this title is?
For those of you who want to check it out, the video is in the TGS folder under the videos tab on the Japanese store.

I loved watching Planet Earth BD on my HDTV. Nothing beats an entire day of interning and then coming home and relaxing on the couch, relaxing your eyes, and immersing yourself in every environment known to mankind.
For this interested, I saw this deal on Fry's Oupost which has the collection, normally $65-70, for $55 shipped. A superb deal if you ask me.

I guess you've never heard of Endless Ocean, popfrogs. Nope, nothing like these "specialty" titles on any other platform.

@5: It has been pushed back until Jan 08 for North America...it's about as far off my radar as MGS4. Thanks for pointing it out though.

You know what is sort of ironic about the PS3 having all these natural eco games. The PS3 uses more electricity than the Wii and 360 combined.
I cannot wait for Afrika and now this Aquavita. (I hope they get released in America or more importantly Canada)

The Wii actually has more games than Wii Sports
(just kidding, I can say anything about the Wii and not too many people scream foul.)

What about flOwer? that's pretty cool and all environmental and whatnot.
BubbaLsL @ Oct 16th 2007 2:54PM
It might use more energy, but there are more Xbox and Xbox360's buried on planet earth.

@4 You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. That's not just a superb deal, that is a steal good sir =).
I know this might sound really lame, but I actually have always wanted games just like these since I was a kid. I always had a huge interest in the ocean, and always wanted a scuba-diving game. Now if ONLY cabelas games looked this good lol.
but seriously, props to Sony for these tittles. Makes me love the PS3 that much more.
(can't wait for the new Team ICO game =D )
