Capcom announces Lost Planet for PS3
After moving Monster Hunter 3 from a PS3 exclusive to a Wii exclusive, many Sony fans were quite enraged. So much so that 31% of you are no longer interested in Capcom's products. That's some serious fallout! After days of teasing PS3 fans with the potential of "good news," Games Radar reports that Capcom will be bringing a port of Lost Planet to the PS3.
Lost Planet, originally released on Xbox 360 and PC, has players running and gunning on a frozen ice planet. Players will jump into various mecha to fight the insect swarm that's devastating the planet. The PS3 version will include all downloadable content on the Blu-ray disc, making it the definitive version of the game. 16 player online support via PSN is also confirmed.
This isn't the end of the Capcom announcements -- more are expected later this week. But, in light of today's announcement, how do you feel about Capcom now?

I feel about the same. I was never interested in Lost Planet to begin with.
EDGE @ Oct 17th 2007 11:36AM
I would get this for PS3, make no mistake.
Auzeroel @ Oct 17th 2007 11:39AM
Meh...I would prefer a Monster Hunter game on PS3 than this...
ruibing @ Oct 17th 2007 11:49AM
I would still only get DMC4, RE5, and maybe the newly announced Street Fighter. But the important thing is that they need to be good ports to the PS3, having just as much (if not more) features as the 360 version, and actually taking the time to utilize the Cell architecture properly (which was the reason I just about completely lost faith in EA).
OrganicShadow @ Oct 17th 2007 11:52AM
I feel about the same about Capcom as before. Lost Planet had been begged of them to come to PS3 for the longest time, so it would take Dead Rising thrown in for good measure to make it worthwhile for me.
Sure, it's cool. Yay. LP for PS3. But a new title of some sort, or some kind of exclusive, is really the only way they could have met the hype. DR/LP combo would have sufficed for me personally though.
Matt B @ Oct 17th 2007 11:55AM
If this is what they thought would bring us around, then they need a good kick in the sack.
shase @ Oct 17th 2007 11:56AM
Still doesn't change my opinion about Capcom... Let's see... lost exclusive of DMC, RE, and complete loss of MH3 for a port... well I don't think a port will satisfy many people, especially if anything it can potentially alienate more support from Capcom. Since they worry about profit so much, a port of LP wont bring much especially after its out so long. And are there supposed to be more announcements for PS3? The countdown is already over isnt it?
Lt-Amuro @ Oct 17th 2007 11:59AM
8:Since they worry about profit so much, a port of LP wont bring much especially after its out so long.
Actually, the game sold reasonably well in the US, but bombed in Japan. Hmm, I wonder why...
The1 @ Oct 17th 2007 12:00PM
as I stated last week, this game was coming to the PS3.
Parker @ Oct 17th 2007 12:01PM
Getting a port of a game in no way makes up for losing exclusivity of DMC and the total loss of MH3.
gwingis @ Oct 17th 2007 12:05PM
port? give me a new game
Alien @ Oct 17th 2007 12:07PM
What about the PSP ... when will Capcom bring some new games to it , aside from the awesome MHF games ?
Brian Spence @ Oct 17th 2007 12:08PM
So we lose a new game, and get a year old port? Whoa, thanks Capcom...
A lot more PS3 bashing came because you got rid of an exclusive game (DMC). This hardly makes up for that.
Paul @ Oct 17th 2007 12:09PM
Oh god. Lost Planet?! WTF
finelicker @ Oct 17th 2007 12:14PM
Game was meh on 360, game will still be meh, (although probably slight worse off due to porting issues).
capcom, sort it out.
Justin @ Oct 17th 2007 12:15PM
A year old 360 game. We're suppposed to be excited. Are they kidding?
Luke @ Oct 17th 2007 12:19PM
I guess this is the big announcement for PS3. Do they really think a port of a one year old game that no wants anymore is a big deal. This does not change anything. I am not only going to buy anymore of capcom games, but I am going to encourage my friends not to buy capcom either. I am even going to tell some of my 360 friends that Devil May Cry sucks and they ought to just stick to playing Halo because that's all they ever really play.
Mr. Book @ Oct 17th 2007 12:21PM
This is a joke...wow such disappointment.
ryano @ Oct 17th 2007 12:22PM
@Lt-Amuro
shooting games always bomb in Japan. they have a motion sickness thing and Lost Planet has really quick turns via the top trigger buttons. Most Japanese gamers were really turned off by this.
it's a fun game, albeit short. multiplayer is nothing to write home about.
i wonder if this will be a port from the 360 version or PC. because the PC actually sports better graphics such as bullet hole deformations in the snow, not just a black texture like the 360 one.
regardless ports just plain suck for the PS3. that's a known fact right now.
Canada984 @ Oct 17th 2007 12:25PM
so what? i already beat this on 360. this does nothing for me. stupid capcom...
adorna @ Oct 17th 2007 12:39PM
hmm I wasn't outraged, like some to begin with. I might have bought Monster Hunter 3 since I own the PSP versin, love it and wlould have hoped for some interaction, but I'm definitely not interested in Lost Planet at all.
ryano @ Oct 17th 2007 12:28PM
@17
I've PS3 friends that all they ever play is Warhawk. the 360 has Halo 3 and now Team Fortress 2 for a multiplayer fix.
Virtua Fighter 5 will be coming down the online pipe at the end of this month (an improved port from the PS3) as well as COD4 (which is actually more graphically impressive for the PS3).
Chameleon @ Oct 17th 2007 12:30PM
".... then they need a good kick in the sack."
-Matt B.
kudos, my friend i got a good laugh out of that
ryano @ Oct 17th 2007 12:33PM
also on the topic of Capcom: i say don't waste your money on the HD streetfighter. it plays like SF2 and has the same frame rate but with hi-res sprites that come from a mixed bag of good and horrible art. i'm sure you've seen the Cammy and Guile art.
in other words it's a ripoff, even as a "Novelty" game. instead go back to SF3: deeper, faster, funner pixaleted goodness.
Mr. Book @ Oct 17th 2007 12:37PM
Capcom is really losing my faith. The only game that has any credibility to me at this point is RE5. To give us a year old port is kind of insulting. Keep your port Capcom no thank you.
Kxpuc @ Oct 17th 2007 12:40PM
MH3 > LP but this is interestingly enough even more so if this is not all their annoucing. Still giving us a port compared to the awesomeness MH3 would have been isn't enough and has to be more to it to get them back on my good side
Joshua @ Oct 17th 2007 12:40PM
Capcom makes a bunch of awesome games, and "losing exclusivity" means nothing to me.
KillarClown @ Oct 17th 2007 12:54PM
i have this for the 360.. it plays sooo slow.. i mean i understand running slow in the snow but when he's on bare ground he's still crawling.. and i don't even know why i was killing those bugs.. i feel bad.. they seemed innocent to me.. i mean it was their planet wasn't it? capcom why put them through this pain again!?
LW @ Oct 17th 2007 12:54PM
Capcom sucks and they make mediocre games. I played Lost Planet on the 360 and it was nothing special. There were some fun parts and the game play was OK but nothing worth getting excited over.
I also bought Dead Rising back before I sold my 360 and it was so frustrating that I returned it. The save structure has WAY too few locations you can save at, which means if you lose a boss battle, you have to spend over 30 minutes of game play just getting back to the boss, only to get killed again and then have to tread all the way back to some remote location in the mall with no save point anywhere near it. Nobody can turn gameplay into a tedious chore like Capcom. Then to cap it off, it's incredibly easy to accidentally erase ALL of your progress and have to start the whole damned game over from the beginning. I know 4 other people who accidentally erased their save and I did too, because the save menu says "restore to your last location" and doesn't warn you that that means "erase ALL your progress and start game over from beginning". The game only got good reviews because most reviewers only play a couple of levels and the problems with Dead Rising's horrible save structure come up after the first few hours of play.
I suspect Capcom doesn't test their games thoroughly before they release them.
Why should we care about a year old port by a company that makes the 360 priority #1 and only makes average games? Puhleeeze!
Ithilis @ Oct 17th 2007 12:55PM
Wow. There are a lot of self-righteous individuals in here. What makes you people think that Capcom even owes you anything in the first place?
GamerGuyX @ Oct 17th 2007 1:00PM
Actually, I'd say the PC version is *the* definitive version.
LW @ Oct 17th 2007 1:00PM
No game developer owes us anything. But they're the ones who made a HUGE DEAL about it and kept saying "we're going to make a HUGE announcement on Wednesday that's going to blow away PS3 owners", and it turns out all it is is a stupid port of a year old game. Big whoop.
The only port I would be excited about is Bioshock.
gumby @ Oct 17th 2007 1:08PM
sweet now lets get ports of all the other old 360 games. why stop there lets port some game cube games. thats sarcasm by the way. give us a good damn exclusive or piss off.
ryano @ Oct 17th 2007 1:12PM
haha, wow. as a 360 owner i have to say bioshock was decent but so way overhyped. so be glad you are not getting it.
and as for 360 and exclusivity-- the system came out before the PS3 and garnered Capcom to make games since the PS3 wasn't out. it has nothing to do with hating on the PS3.
this port is Capcom's way of slowly coming back to developing for the PS3 again. to heal old wounds. welcome it dammit!
when the PS3 trumps the 360 (let's be honest, i love my 360 but we all know that it will happen) you'll get yer darn Capcom Exclusives again!
R0nin @ Oct 17th 2007 1:13PM
ugh, i never saw what was so great about lost planet before. give us monster hunter back!
komrad @ Oct 17th 2007 1:51PM
nah. i think i'll file capcom under suck, thanks.
Vegard Nilsen @ Oct 17th 2007 3:08PM
I'd rather see Dead Rising for the Ps3, maybe that's the next announcment? I sure hope so...
The Clunge @ Oct 17th 2007 1:37PM
It all depends on how good the port is. Get it right, bung in Dead Rising and some exclusive content for DMC4 and we'll see how I feel then.
optimusprime @ Oct 17th 2007 1:37PM
Wow the one year old port of a game, that we will probably have to pay full price for. (When you can get it for 39.99 now on the 360). I can't hold my excitement for this "great announcement".
Luke @ Oct 17th 2007 1:42PM
@34
I don't care to have capcom exclusives, they can go to H*** for all I care. The only thing capcom can give me now is to file bankruptcy. That would be a really good announcement.
apease @ Oct 17th 2007 1:44PM
"No game developer owes us anything. But they're the ones who made a HUGE DEAL about it and kept saying "we're going to make a HUGE announcement on Wednesday that's going to blow away PS3 owners"
When did a developer say that? All I heard was "Let's see how they [ps3 fans] feel about us next week" after the MH3 announcement.
Luke @ Oct 17th 2007 1:46PM
Oh yeah, another thing, I think any true sony fan should boycott capcom. Meaning buying no PS3 or PSP games made by the company. They lied to us, saying DMC4 was exclusive, the lied to us saying that they planned to make identical copies of the game. I saw videos on ign where they had planned on supporting rumble for the 360, but no sixaxix for ps3. No they lied to us again, saying they had a big announcement. I hate capcom.
Jason B. @ Oct 17th 2007 1:47PM
The article you reference has been deleted with an apology about posting it.
Supino @ Oct 17th 2007 1:46PM
Capcom makes good games. You guys and your negativity makes me angry. Capcom = more games for PS3, how can that be a bad thing?!
OTAM @ Oct 17th 2007 1:47PM
A mediocre,1 year old game from the 360 and we're supposed to be gushing for Capcom?
What a colossal disappointment.
Azza @ Oct 17th 2007 1:56PM
Well dead rising would have been better but a little compensation is beter than no comp, right?
coplice @ Oct 17th 2007 1:58PM
i though lost planet was a free PC game?
Joe @ Oct 17th 2007 2:13PM
I hate to say it but I would have prefered Lost Planet 2 over this. Plus I would have taken Monter Hunter 3 over this any day. So much for Capcom saying PS3 fans would be happy. I can say I am sad to see that this is all we get. I guess it finally is true Capcom now hates the PS3 and I for one am sad. Seeing as the PS1 saved Capcom then the PS2 made Capcom Rich.
But I guess they do not like Sony and more and so I do not like them that much any more.
Well its there loss I already played this on the 360 so this is not big news for me. Plus this does nothing for me. So I guess Capcom is not going to get my money. So it is there loss not mine.
bamf @ Oct 17th 2007 2:40PM
PLayed it on 360, good game. Happy its on PS3? Well it'll be good for some. Dissapointed that LP is the huge PS3 related announcement? too right.
RazielDune @ Oct 17th 2007 2:42PM
so we got what now....a year old game from 360. a sequel to a 20 year old game....and Street fighter 4 thats not even been console anounced yet....umm tell me when i a ps3 owner should be excited.
