Naughty Dog co-president says Uncharted not that similar to Tomb Raider
When you first see Uncharted's beautiful scenery and gameplay, it's hard not to immediately think of Eidos' Tomb Raider series. While many gamers continue to make those comparisons, anyone who's watched a few gameplay videos will realize the two games aren't that similar after all.
Naughty Dog copresident Evan Wells told Gamespot that he understands the comparisons, but the gameplay focus and the lead characters are entirely different. "I think just by the very fact that both Nathan Drake and Lara Croft are treasure hunters, there will be comparisons. But beyond that, they diverge pretty rapidly. From a character standpoint, Nathan Drake is an everyman who struggles to get by, who you can see on his face that he's stressed out as he's flinching from bullets ricocheting off the cover he's hiding behind, while Lara is the more stone-faced acrobat, perfect landing every time," he said. "And then the gameplay, obviously we were very focused on third-person cover-based play, while theirs is more auto-aiming and a little more heavy on the puzzle-solving."
Well said, Mr. Wells. Hopefully, this clears up any misunderstanding anyone has about the two games. While it'd be great if Uncharted reaches the same success as Tomb Raider, we just hope it doesn't follow Lara's downward spiral of mediocrity.

The main difference is that in Uncharted you can actually SHOOT PEOPLE. In Tomb Raider, it's frustrating and hard to do.

Yea, you're right. It's not similar to Tomb Raider. It's similar to FarCry.

Tomb Raider was a very popular game and made a lot of money, as I think uncharted will be. There's another similarity! I really don't get why peaple do this "Oh X game looks like Y game". What does it matter as long as it's not exactly the same and is fun?? It's like people think all other games are original, all FPS' are basically a copy of Doom/Wolfenstein!

I've seen the review disc.. and YES it does feel like Tombraider, nice of them to try and make reviewers think otherwise but still it is an tombraider rip off.. not that this means it's a bad game.. hell no! it's the best looking game out there!

I have to admit that the videos do make me think tomb raider, but i'll reserve my final judgement for the November demo.

I would never do this to an HD DVD ;)

Sorry... the game looks a lot like Tomb Raider. They threw in hand to hand combat so that ought to be interesting.
Just because it looks and feels (from the demos) like Tomb Raider isn't a bad thing since I really enjoyed Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

Uncharted is not Tomb Raider
Heavenly Sword is not God of War
Saint's Row is not GTA
People need to stop being whiner babies and just accept a game on it's own. It doesnt need to constantly be compared to something else at all times.
I guess Half-Life 2 is like Wolfenstein because you shoot people with guns in a first person view.
