Capcom apologizes for Monster Hunter platform switch
The latest issue of Famitsu features an interview with the Monster Hunter team. Many PS3 fans were angered when the company made a surprising platform change for the upcoming Monster Hunter 3. The PS3 version of the game was canceled and became a Wii exclusive.
According to Famitsu (translation by IGN), representatives of Capcom had a "big apology" for PS3 fans. "Famitsu pointed out that some people may have purchased a PS3 once Monster Hunter 3 was announced last year. This drew a big apology from the Capcom reps, who said that PS3 owners should wait for further announcements in the series."
Capcom is supposedly increasing their focus on PS3 development, but no significant projects have been announced for PS3 yet. A PS3 port of Lost Planet was recently revealed at its Gamers Day. If Capcom's asking PS3 owners to "wait" for another MH-related announcement, we have a feeling many Sony fans are going to be quite disappointed.

NOT BUYING THE APOLOGY CAPCOM!!!
Capcom has been continuously screwing PS3 owners over-and-over again (from loosing DMC4 exclusivity to the dissapointing announcement of a Lost Planet port that was supposed to "make-up" for the lose of MH3. If we want to force Capcom to change, we need to stop buying their PS3 games.
BOYCOTT CAPCOM!!! BOYCOTT CAPCOM!!!
RazielDune @ Oct 29th 2007 7:46PM
i'll accept this appology if RE5 or DMC 4 comes PS3 Exclusive that or Dead Rising 2 comes ps3 exclusive. so meaning proubly no chance.
RazielDune @ Oct 29th 2007 7:48PM
i will accept capcoms appology if RE5, DMC4, Dead Rising 2, or MH3 come back to PS3 or become PS3 exclsuive which means high chance in hell?
RazielDune @ Oct 29th 2007 7:49PM
ack double post sorry...it sent one email for my 2nd one oddly.
Geoff Gibson @ Oct 29th 2007 7:55PM
Oh please. . .
Monster Hunter is alrgely a Japan title. It probably won't sell 100,000 copies in the U.S. The only reason why people are angry is because they feel "betrayed" by Capcom sending the exclusive title to a MUCH more successful console in JAPAN, where it TRULY matters.
Who cares? You know who Capcom owes its' loyalty to? Its' investors. . . they are the ones relying on Capcom to make sound business decisions to make more money and they made the right one for this game. The Wii continually outsells the PS3 in that region by at least 3 to 1. . . sometimes to goes up to 6 to 1. . .
Geoff Gibson @ Oct 29th 2007 7:57PM
And just for a final note:
Quit being babies. Seriously, how many of you would have bought this game at all. . . or even looked at it? We still have MGS4 and Final Fantasy XIII to look forward to among many other titles that are MUCH better and will sell MUCH more than Monster Hunter ever would.
simcha @ Oct 29th 2007 8:04PM
I would look at it and depending on the direction of the game buy it. I've played monster rancher 2 for the PS and really did enjoy it. The others were getting a bit more and more cartoony but otherwise the games are solid and quite fun.
CrimsonAngel @ Oct 29th 2007 8:12PM
6# i would have bought it.
I love Monster hunter, but hate friend Codes so....
SOCOMRAIDER @ Oct 30th 2007 2:41PM
Capcom has been falling off with their games lately. Lost Planet? blah!
But most importantly, it's not Capcom screwing Sony, it has been Sony screwing Capcom into screwing Sony. Or more likely Ken Kutaragi. I mean there was a reason behind his dismissal (firing), right?
There have been reports that all these developers wanted to launch of a bunch of titles either completely exclusively or on a timed exclusive. But good ol' Ken was messing with the PS3 third-party business model for far too long, that MS came in and stole some titles right from under them.

DMC definitely won't be a PS3 exclusive, but RE5 still has some hope since its set to be released in 2009.
Luke @ Oct 29th 2007 8:39PM
Shut up Capcom!!!
Dreadhead541 @ Oct 30th 2007 2:41PM
Geoff Gibson, the only reason i'm upset about this is because i was genuinely hoping for a next-gen monster hunter game that fully takes advantage of the next-gen hardware, and i just won't be the same game i was hoping for on wii.
And stop making stupid assumptions about people, monster hunter 3 was my most anticipated ps3 game, i love the series to death. Just because you don't like it that much doesn't mean that other people feel the same was as you
Jay @ Oct 29th 2007 9:00PM
The only issue with the Monster Hunter series is that it is not online. I know there is a Japanese PC version, but moving to the Wii will not give us a good online solution. Plus it will look just like the PSP version.Bring MH back to PS3 and give it a good online system.
SKI @ Oct 29th 2007 9:05PM

One, it's the Sony fans fault for not buying enough systems, and how it boycotting what few games they do give you going to make them want to put an exclusive AAA game on the PS3?
Darkdrium777 @ Oct 30th 2007 2:40PM
I don't understand why so many people hate Monster Hunter in the US. True, the first one that was released here was very hard and not user friendly at all, but once you surpassed the beginning difficulties, the game is still greatly enjoyable, and the online part with all the monster hunting going on is awesome. It's too bad that it headed for the Wii, because I would've definitely bought it, no questions asked. The series has improved so much since the first iteration I doubt it would have been worse than Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on PSP (Which is awesome). I guess I'm just one of the few disappointed North American fans... :/ I'll have to wait for it on PSP then...

@SKI
You sound like a 360 owner or fan, or at least a quick glance in your previous posts hints at that, so let me ask how you would feel if Halo, PGR, and Forza all appeared on the PS3? I know it won't happen for those three titles (since those are the only ones I know well and they are owned by MS), but suppose they are published by a third party publisher. And now suppose there are a bunch of other publishers that kept true to their words of staying exclusive, wouldn't you rather get the games from those games instead?
We, PS3 owners, are in the same position, so we lost exclusivity on DMC4 and RE5. DMC4 is due out Q1 2008, same time as Killzone 2 (I think), LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, Last Remnant (not exclusive but I can't pass by a good Square Enix game), and a bunch more that were developed exclusively for the PS3 and didn't change their mind in the middle. I am a fan of DMC series, but even I am moving the game a few places down my list of must-have games for this reason in such a crowded release period.
animekid3515 @ Oct 29th 2007 10:00PM
@jay: you have never played the original ps2 version have you?
CatalystX @ Oct 29th 2007 10:07PM
What's Monster Hunter?
Consolcwby @ Oct 29th 2007 10:11PM
@Geoff: I love me some Monster Hunter - it isn't as popular here as in Japan, but there's still enough fans to make Capcom some nice cash. I just wonder how gimped gameplay is going to be using the WiiMote? =/
On the Capcom side of things:
Look, if Cap wants to really apologize, they need to say those 2 magic words: "PS3 Exclusive". Otherwise, it's about as meaningful as a wife-beater who says "I love you" to his wife... before kicking her in the c*nt.
TripleBlue @ Nov 5th 2007 9:43PM
@SKI #12
answer is yes when they've figured out the root of the
boycotts was exclusives in the first place.Yeah.
and no, an apology doesn't cut it capcom, you have to do better(at least give us the ps3 version)
(sry if my english was bad)
Popfrogs @ Oct 29th 2007 10:23PM
I'm not buying it. It's weird how Capcom has totally turned its back on the homegrown Japanese PS3 and is giving reach-arounds to Microsoft. I would never have guessed they would do something like this.
Capcom better have something special up their sleeves for us PS3 owners, and I'm not talking about a lame port of a game nobody liked (Lost Planet).
Kxpuc @ Oct 29th 2007 10:32PM
so they are saying wait for MH4 in 2010? or they just shelve the MH3 version and going to port the Wii version to PS3?
Joe @ Oct 29th 2007 10:52PM
I hope this means there is still hope for a Monster Hunter game on the PS3. I think even if not this is good news this might been that Capcom might be warming up to the PS3 again.
kyuss74 @ Oct 30th 2007 1:45AM
apparently the ps3 wasnt capable of running it.
j @ Oct 30th 2007 1:35PM
It would a nice touch if they made Dead Rising 2 and Resident Evil 5 exclusives to the ps3 to make up a decent apology.
I can just imagine the sweet outrage of Xbox360/MS servants if such a thing came to pass. =P
Extinction @ Oct 30th 2007 3:50AM
"NOT BUYING THE APOLOGY CAPCOM!!!"
Neither am I. If they were sorry, they'd make it for PS3.
coplice @ Oct 30th 2007 8:04AM
@Theguy
yeah.. boycot capcom... good idea, that will make them think its not worth making any game for the ps3 because no ones buy them, really bright
you should say: everyone should buy their games, except lost planet cause it suck
Tony @ Oct 30th 2007 8:56AM
Aside for the people who take vengeful pleasure seeing MH become a waggle-enabled PS2 port on Wii, this could be really good news for MH fans.
Let's hope the true fans actually DO get what they wanted...proper next gen' Mhunter with better NPC and enemy A.I., larger maps, bigger better online, better physics, superb graphics and sound, real time weather and day-night cycle effects, and even deformable environments.
Basically all the things the PS3 could give MH in spades but the Wii will try to make up for with (sigh) waggle.
Byron517 @ Oct 30th 2007 9:17AM
AND!? Who cares!!
Chaz @ Oct 30th 2007 10:08AM
The irony here is that, before these announcements, barely any American gamers were even aware of Monster Hunter. LOL@ the guy above who mentioned Monster Rancher..
Even Wii owners were clueless about the game. "Oh, it's like Pokemon with swords?".
I play MH Freedom 2 religously by the way, great game despite the lack of infrastructure mode. It's unfortunate that Capcom has done little to promote the series to date. The first game on PS2 was a little crusty in some areas, but the series has seen many improvements in the last two years.
I'd be optomistic about this announcement, but it's solely targeted to Japanese PS3 owners. =(
HektikLyfe @ Oct 30th 2007 11:56AM
People are buying $600 consoles for games that "might" come out. Seriously, you had it coming.
James @ Oct 30th 2007 1:40PM
Hmm well as dissapointing as it was to hear about the switch. I think most games might need to become multi-platform at this stage in order to make enough money to cover for production costs. It might have been a smarter move to make MH2 for the wii, allowing more american players to expereince the game and it make a newer ps3/xbox version of it for future release.
I might be flamed for mentioning the idea of it on xbox but hey without them making money, they will no longer make the game.

"I'm not buying it. It's weird how Capcom has totally turned its back on the homegrown Japanese PS3 and is giving reach-arounds to Microsoft. I would never have guessed they would do something like this."
Eh? If your talking about the Wii it's also Japanese XD otherwise nevermind lol.
This apology ain't good enough. It's like pushing someone overboard a ship and say "Hey, we'd like to keep you, but we can't afford to keep you, sorry buddy." which is just wrong init?
