Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G due in March

For those of you still reeling over the last Monster Hunter title on the PSP, we've got some news you might want to gobble up and get ready to gather even more monsters. The title, admittedly, has a much stronger audience in Japan but its following here is nothing to scoff at. Earlier at TGS, a third portable entry was announced, rather, an expansion of the second entry, but we didn't expect it to get a release date that's not in the very distant future at all.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is due out in March of next year, in Japan. The game is going to ship as part of a slim PSP bundle, but that doesn't mean you can't snag the game on its own. Even though the game is due out in a few months, there's really quite little we know about it. It would have been funny if it had some connection to the recently cancelled PS3 game, but then again, maybe that'd be less funny and more sad. Either way, those who hunt monsters, rejoice!

I may get flamed for this, but honestly... I don't get what's all the fuzz about this game. Tried the umd out for a day and couldn't find what's so ZOMFG great bout it.

I'm glad I didn't bought it out of popularitis like my friend did...

Hmph...interesting...maybe they could take care of the whole "not-having-infrastructure" problem they didn't fix.

Since PSP ownership is not a huge deal where I live I can never find people in real life to play with. Gimme some online, Capcom. Then I'll buy your game.

@ cafecito: the best part of MH is ad-hoc play. if you play with friends, the hunts are A LOT more fun. Too bad I only played single-player....oh well.

I LOVE this game....ive played it for 75 hours so far and
would be playin it for a long time to come.... i haf a friend who played the first part for 3000 hours

To cafecito:

The game fills a niche, it's not really meant to be liked by everyone. The niche is unique, but still surprisingly large: the collector. Since you've played the game, you know that it revolves around going into the field and _collecting_ stuff to make better equipment. And you collect the stuff through a myriad of ways including fighting monsters. Now here is the kicker; to make better stuff you need to kill stronger monsters.

To some, this may sound redundant, stupid, and boring. But to many, (myself included) the idea of going out into the world and collecting everything is as enjoyable part of any game as much as playing the game itself, so imagine a game thats premise is built around this!

And to those who are confused by who would be included in this niche, well that is a simple question to answer....sort of. Here are some distinct characteristics of "collectors"
1. You enjoy finding new items (whether useful or not) in games.
2. If items level up (ala Ratchet, Monster Hunter, Harvest Moon, etc.) you level up all items.
3. You like maxing out certain aspect of games (FFX sphere grid, FFVII materia, etc.)
4. You enjoy having to "work" for the ultimate stuff (any MMORGP...pick one!)

The key characteristic is being a fan of RPGs...If you do not like RPGs than MH is NOT a game for you. Since really it’s a game of minutia.

Sorry for the long explanation, but hopefully that answers your question...or at least makes you less confused...
