PlayStation customer care gets two awards
Another feather in the cap for the PlayStation brand, replacing those weird ugly marks that marred the hat in the eyes of the public for a little while. Two aspects of the PlayStation customer service system, the call center and outsourcing technology, have recently been given the thumbs up in the form of two awards, given by the National Outsourcing Association. While Sony doesn't get the awards, the service who takes care of the customer care end, Sitel, claimed the awards for Best Private Sector Call Centre and Utilities and High-Tech Outsourcing Project of the Year. Like we said, not directly Sony, but it's a plus in the PlayStation brand as a whole. Anyone had to rely on customer service with a Sony product? Did it go swimmingly?

did they just get an award for outsourcing our jobs to a developing country ?

actually, this company's headquarters is located in Nashville...and I doubt Australia, France, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the UK are developing countries...

Today, I might say, is a fine day for Sony, isn't it?

well i can personally say that Sony's customer service is THE BEST. Why? you might ask.. because everything from my PC to my TV to my Game consoles, Camera's, and headphones are made by sony and i have NEVER had a problem with any of them .. now on the other hand i had a Buddy who got 4 RRoD and on his last console he recieved he didnt even turn it on he just sold it and bought a PS3

I've had to call Sony for PSP problems once and they are very good. Not too much wait time, easy to talk to customer service, and i came out with overall satisfaction of how they handled the situation.

I wouldn't know, from my first MD player to my new PS3, none of my Sony products has ever failed or needed tech support...

I had problems with installing my HDD. I stripped the screws and after a five minute phone call I got the part I needed for free.
Nintendo is also very good. One guy spent 50 minutes helping my configure my router so my DS could go online.
Microsoft has been good to me as well. When I had my old Xbox they sent me a new power brick that was safer for free.

Considering how often Sony gets the full blame when companies they outsourced did something wrong (ie: the root-kit was outsourced) or when something was outsourced to them (the bioshock drm) Sony should get the credit for this one.

i called them once to try and fix some Warhawk problems and i tell you what, they were dammed friendly. i barely waited a minute for a rep and he was very excited and friendly and even asked me about some games that he hadnt played yet and how they were. my only complaint is that they never followed through on there call back they were supposed to do.....and they never actually fixed the problem lol. but i was still very impressed with the customer service!

@9: I'm guessing this was back in the "Warhawk won't connect" days. Deleting the cookies and cache from the browser after that deadly firmware update usually fixed the problem. It was kind of a hidden fix and Sony decided to fix the firmware instead.

Sitel is a joke. Trust me.
In North America hire barely out of highschool (some cases still in high school) kids at almost minimum wage.
God knows what they do in the third world.

My ps3 just recently stopped working, and I had to send it in. The customer service guy said exactly the right thing when I told him my ps3 wouldn't turn on: "That sucks" (or something equivalent). Anyway, I've had no problems with the warranty process, even though I lost the receipt. Should be back any day now, and then back to warhawk.
kris.barratt @ Nov 1st 2007 12:52PM
Yeah, the customer srevice is great.
It only took me about 5 minutes to get them to arrange a repair for my ps3 and I had the post paid box within a few days. Really friendly too.
