As the title suggests, Sony has released firmware version 2.00 and it's available for your downloading pleasure now. Even though the stuff in the update isn't what the rabid fanboy hype train drove in multiple forums with all those fake "leaked" lists of features, it's a pretty big deal for organizational and appearance purposes. Plus, toting your PSP around got a whole lot cooler, since you can turn your system on at any WiFi spot. What are you guys waiting for? Turn that black box of hotness on and get to downloading and organizing whatever you want!
[Thanks to those who gave us a heads up!]

Done.
Glad to finally get my answer. Remote Play is Wake on WiFi which is incredible.
....
Next update I'd like to see RSS feeds like on the PSP too.
Maximilian Lockwood @ Nov 7th 2007 11:10PM
Coolest/most interesting detail of the firmware update that has been seemingly overlooked: the ability to watch PS Store movies as they are downloading to your system (the PLAY button is right above the Perform in Background button).
Stridery @ Nov 7th 2007 11:14PM
I just finished my install of the update. I was playing around with the theme then decided to go and check out the RSS, but didn't get to far as my system froze up pretty nasty like. I hope its just a fluke on my end somehow.
allen @ Nov 7th 2007 11:17PM
why is making music to play during a game so hard to do? it took about two months for it to go up .10, they didn't have enough time, to do it? I know thats what I want!!! It better be in the next one...
Brendan Brown @ Nov 7th 2007 11:23PM
@Allen
The firmware has allowed games to play music off the hard drive for months now. A proof of concept is in the game 'Mainichi Isshyou' (a free game on the Japanese PSN store)
As for giving the User the ability to run a second OS thread to playback music OVER the intended game soundtrack...well I'd rather Sony work on more stuff under the hood than provide me with the same functionality as lugging a boombox into my living room while playing Warhawk.
Tim Parsons @ Nov 7th 2007 11:25PM

EVERYONE CHECK THE NEW CHAT ROOM....THE CHAT ROOM HAS CHANGED
Dru @ Nov 7th 2007 11:34PM
Meh...Don't get me wrong, I'm not all worked up about the no in-game XMB or music. I just think that these are a bunch of slight updates that add up to one, overall decent (at best) update. Nothing all that special in the end. Keep it up Sony, at least there was an update, right?
Dru @ Nov 7th 2007 11:40PM
Oh, I forgot. Only one theme in the update?!? In the video on the PS blog our Sony friend had a few different ones already on the system. He even slightly slipped up and stated they'd be apart of the update, but then quickly added they should be available for download later as well. Kind of disappointed in the one theme made available (Could ya tell?). The heart, flowers and rainbow really aren't my style...
Terrence @ Nov 7th 2007 11:53PM
As far as the heart, flower, and rainbow theme, yeah that looks like its for kids. But for now I'm using that theme for the icons, but keeping the original font and wavey background. It adds a little style to what I've been bored of seeing ever since the PSP first came out. Besides the lack of in-game XMB access, I'm personally disappointed in the lack of playlist features for VIDEO. What if I wanted to watch more than one video in sequence?
Dahk @ Nov 7th 2007 11:58PM
WHOA if Maximillian's thing is true, that's awesome. I'm not exactly sure I'd use it much, but it'd be awesome nonetheless =).
Dahk @ Nov 8th 2007 12:04AM
WHOA it works!
Not exactly the fastest streaming service in the world though, since the videos I download are all in HD lol.
But yeah, I think the new air brush theme with the brown or grey original background looks sharp (Y).
And jeez. Finally playlists! Frickin things.
Gunegune @ Nov 8th 2007 12:07AM
The firmware update is great and all, and I really love the ability to play a video while it's downloading, but why is it so hard to update the music player? Why don't we have 10x, 30x, and 120x FF/RW? The PSP has it. It can't be that hard to implement.
On a side note, I think someone (possibly PS3 Fanboy) should start a wiki that allows people to tell Sony (assuming Sony reads it) what they'd like improved or added in future firmware updates. Just a thought.
batmanhill6157 @ Nov 8th 2007 12:07AM
aw man, best update to date.
Dahk @ Nov 8th 2007 12:16AM
Hmm browser sports a handy bar underneath as well now that tells you what links your hitting, as well as a new mouse pointer thing.
Unfortunately every page I hit up now causes all my memory to be used up, and I can't end up viewing anything! ARGH!
That and the network issues I have still exist =/. It seems to take the place of an IP address already used on my router. Darn thing.
Dru @ Nov 8th 2007 12:31AM
@Dahk
Try turning your javascripts off. It worked for me, at one point I couldn't even get to PS3 Fanboy until I did this. Good luck, hope this helped...
Hunter Leon @ Nov 8th 2007 12:46AM
Ummm why does my PS3 turns on by itself seconds after I tell it to turn off with my PSP? anyone with this problem??
Brad @ Nov 8th 2007 1:03AM
Does the PSP "turn the PS3 on/off" functionality work over the internet, or only when the PSP connects directly to the PS3's built-in WiFi hardware????
doclloyd @ Nov 8th 2007 1:07AM
Decent update. I also found that you can group content under "Video" and "Game". Video is useful to group by first letter, especially if you have a lot of video content. The Game section groups by "Playstation3" or "Unknown", which I'm not sure of its purpose yet.
Otherwise, everything seems to be working so far.
Hunter Leon @ Nov 8th 2007 1:08AM
over the internet if you want land then you turn on your PS3 and put in on remote play.... but really why does it turn on my PS3 secons late?
boiledfrogs @ Nov 8th 2007 1:50AM
such a lame update.
only thing i like is being able to adjust the backgrounds brightness.
bootiemon @ Nov 8th 2007 1:30AM
You can now label your games and videos with an "album" name, then group by album. I've now got my demos, psn games, and ps1 games grouped separately.
ndoerr @ Nov 8th 2007 1:29AM
Hey guys, either I'm completely stupid or I've stumbled across something neat on the internet browser. Admittedly, my wireless keyboard/mouse haven't been working, but I was messing around with the scroll wheel (is that what it's called? the thing between the buttons?), and by clicking the wheel I'm brought back to the XMB while the browser is still in the background. Not to mention the fact you can use it in lieu of the sixaxis and/or keyboard.
Like I said, it might not be new, but it's the first time I've stumbled across it. Either way, neat compatibility with the mouse... I didn't realize it was so complete.
Tondog @ Nov 8th 2007 1:49AM
But what Sony needs to do is let us sort our games/demos alphabetically!
OTAM @ Nov 8th 2007 1:45AM
So,there's still no XMB in game or custom music...
What does this update have of value again?
Dahk @ Nov 8th 2007 2:02AM
@ Nick.
The XMB access while in the Internet Browser was always available by pressing the PS Home button thing, but I had no idea you could do that with a mouse!
Not exactly sure if the XMB access or the mouse thing was your revolution. Haha, but either way good catch!
leiwei @ Nov 8th 2007 2:07AM
Sweet. Can finally sort games by recently played.
leiwei @ Nov 8th 2007 2:10AM
Hmm, been browsing videos to try out the streaming that some of you mentioned but noticed something. I thought Dreamworks/Paramount went over to the HD-dvd side. Why does PSN still carry trailers of future-movies they're making?
Beast @ Nov 8th 2007 4:36AM
Hey guys you can download at least two extra themes already from the playstation website. Here is the link to the Australian one. Includes 'Nature' and 'Pixel' themes:
http://au.playstation.com/support/ps3/faqs/custom_theme_files.zip
PauLo @ Nov 8th 2007 4:03AM
For all the other themes, click here..
http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/update/exp_ver200.html#theme_setting
then pn your USB stick make a file PS3, then in that make a file THEME, then put your downloaded theme into the THEME file, stick your usb stick in your PS3 and then go to themes and install, your new themes will be there.
Rufus @ Nov 8th 2007 5:44AM
Nice upgrade , but when will the ps3 play divx video files ??????
Jon D @ Nov 8th 2007 5:58AM
you can arrange demos and such under the GAME tab by editing the ALBUM name in the INFORMATION section when you hit triangle. it's pretty sweet. I set mine up to have full games, demos, trials, import, and apps all seperate.
also, to anyone who wants to know, over at the Official US PlayStation, the latest poll is:
Choose which XMB™
(Cross Media Bar) feature
would be most important
to you in a possible PLAYSTATION®Network update:
1. In-game access to PSN messaging
2. Ability to play my own music from the XMB while in-game
3. Larger buddy list and buddy-list features such as categorizing
-----------
so far, the second choice is winning by a mere 100 votes. if you're a member of the GAP, make your voice heard. here's to future updates.
ck @ Nov 8th 2007 6:01AM
You guys complaining about not having enough themes can make your own:

Just turned my PS3 on and apparently i'm running the current version - 1.93???? Says I dont need to update either???
Kspraydad @ Nov 8th 2007 7:01AM
@Rufus....
Stream them from your PC.
josh83 @ Nov 8th 2007 7:26AM
So the highlight of Firmware 2.0 seems to be those themes. This feels a bit 1997 to me, this themes thing. But I posted a poll about asking: Don't you think this all business is a bit overhyped?
http://www.pollsb.com/polls/poll/3647/ps3-themes
Kspraydad @ Nov 8th 2007 7:55AM
Actually the hightlight to me is for PSP owners as we move one more step towards mobile HOME access.
ClarkyCat @ Nov 8th 2007 7:57AM
Well, the RSS thing is completely unreadable on an SDTV. Not that there's anything useful in it!
And the PS3 keeps turning itself on and off again after it's turned off using Remote Play, odd.
Oh and grouping by recently played doesn't work.
Great update!
deadxbabiesxinc @ Nov 10th 2007 3:38AM
About the background, you can change it without losing the cool icons. Depending on what background you decide to choose will decide on how well you can see the icons...anything bright on a dark background looks great. I agree the background that came with our first theme isn't my style but you CAN change the background and keep the icons and such. F around with the darn settings! :-P As far as the custom music thing goes...I've heard someone say that Sony left it up for the developers to incorporate that option themselves, not for Sony to do something with their system to somehow overpower the music in the game. Somethign to that extent.
XDragon @ Nov 8th 2007 8:46AM
I'm still dissapointed about 2 things:
1 - no profile 1.1
2 - the auto resolution is still not working right
When i play Call of Duty 4, i have to tell the PS3 that my tv can only output 1080p or else the game plays in 720! But if i do that, any game thats in 720 plays in 480 because 720 is disabled. I shouldn't have to select my resolution eveytime i change games! And yes my tv's native resolution is 1080p and has HDMI 1.3 and i'm using an HDMI 1.3 cable.
DEMAN @ Nov 8th 2007 8:53AM
Hey its kinda cool the airpant theme is good for buttons but not the back ground. whats the point of two network buttons?
Jason @ Nov 8th 2007 10:16AM
It's awesome that now I can turn on my PS3 from work and start downloading the new Thursday demos so they are ready when I get home. This rules!
Sora57 @ Nov 8th 2007 10:17AM
On the official Playstation blog it says the system update page will automatically refresh when the update is live and list all update details. Well, the update has been live for a while now, and the update page still says 1.93 is the latest. Nice.
Sora57 @ Nov 8th 2007 10:21AM
A number of users here (and on the SONY blog comments) indicate that when trying to shut off the PS3 using remote play, the system comes back on after a few seconds. Is everyone with this problem using WiFi connection on their PS3 or are wired network connections having trouble too?
Jeff H @ Nov 8th 2007 2:28PM
sort by recently played in games, seems to be backward.
and by that i mean the most recently played thing is at the bottom of the list. Am I doing it wrong?
SlantSeven @ Nov 8th 2007 11:22AM
@ 43 - I am having the same problems as well. Once I activate the remote start on my PS3, turn off my PS3 it will continue to reboot and wait for a connection. This doesn't seem like a Wake On LAN feature to me.....
Popfrogs @ Nov 8th 2007 11:05AM
I imagine people that have their PS3's on wireless will have theirs turning on automatically after being asleep. This has to do with the nature of Wifi. If you're doing Wake-on-lan (which is essentially what this is), and a router sends out an 'are you alive' packet, the PS3 will take that as a wake signal and turn back on.
So, those of you with wifi might just want to leave your PS3s turned on. Those of you wired to a LAN (like me) probably won't have this problem. I'll see when I get home.
Royster @ Nov 8th 2007 2:21PM
Anyone else notice that when remote start is enabled, and the system is turned off, it sounds like the system fan is still spinning (very quietly, but I'm sure it didn't do that before).
To test, I switched the power switch off on the back and it appeared to stop. Turned the switch on again, and it was still silent (no fan at all).
Tried remote starting. It didn't work until I powered on the ps3 with the controller, then turned it off again. Now when its on standby it still makes the quiet fan noise.
Also, when updating, did anyone else notice the 'Updating database' message after the system rebooted? Wonder what that was for...
Scott Krueger @ Nov 8th 2007 12:05PM
I am using the Wireless Connection and When I shut off from my PSP the PS3 comes back on by itself too.
Also, I would like to Not have to Turn Auto-Login ON to use this Feature. Couldn't they make it so 1 profile is set as a master for the Remote Start, but when starting up normally (not from PSP) go to the Login User???
One More Huge Request... Sony PLEASE add the ability to Output Audio to HDMI & Optical at the Same Time. The PS2 could do it... I use HDMI 90% of the Time, but when I watch some movies I want to kick it through the Surround Sound System & that is hooked through Optical. It seems it would be a easy fix. Please, Please, Please...
Scott Krueger @ Nov 8th 2007 12:23PM
I read a post on the Playstation GAP. One user said after he shut down via the PSP his PS3 came back on into the Remote Play Screen as many have experienced.
However... After the 2 Minute inactivity time out it automatically shut down and Did not come back on. Not exactly the most graceful solution, but good enough until it gets fixed (can you say 2.01)
I'm gonna try it myself when I get Home Tonight.
