Guillemot says developing for PS3 is no harder than 360

As for the rumor that it costs a lot more to work on the PS3, well, it's still true, but not a major hike in price due to Ubisoft's complete cross-platform engine thingy. "What we do now is create for the PS3 and 360 at the same time, and it doesn't cost more than 10 per cent extra to develop for the other machine ... Before it was costing us more, about 20 per cent, just because it was difficult to learn the PS3 hardware, but now our engines are done and we can easily develop for both machines." Good stuff, we guess. Hopefully this means less delays for PS3 versions of games as well as equivalent gaming experiences.

Call me crazy, but I didn't pay for "equivalent". I'm happy with my purchase, but if you can push the PS3 further I say try. Hell if you can push EITHER then do it. Why let the limitations of one hinder the other. Optimize the hardware to get me the best experience possible. THAT is what I pay $60 a disc for...

And this is coming from the same people who complained about "Cell not being well suited for AI code"...
360 sells twice as much as the PS3:
Developers say the PS3 sucks!
PS3 picks up sales:
Developers say the PS3 is not so hard to develop for.
Credibility down the drain. Just bring out those games and STFU! Only fanboys will care by now.

i think ubisoft are the best game developers :P n so far ive preffered there ps3 games over the 360 versions as it seems alot smoother. (not a fanboy lol just want i think)
murfy @ Nov 7th 2007 6:24PM
agree with 1, i want developers to push hardware not just be happy with getting it similar. most of these devs are full of it, as soon as ps3 starts selling well they jumping on the band wagon and start saying ps3 is easy to develope.

Yep, play to the strengths of each console like Sierra did with Oblivion. That's the way to earn my dollar. Simply matching games on 2 different consoles is not enough.

Being a year behind and on eaqual gound, I think that is good. I like how things are starting to move along.
Digi Smalls @ Nov 7th 2007 6:36PM
yep, agreed, especially when that different console is older and cheaper Popfrogs.

Developing for the PS3 is easy... after you've spent time creating the engine which is the hard part...

It's true, money talks. Still, it's good to see this in the light of recent scandalous and ill-warranted accusations from former wanna-be developers... and comments like these are an admonition for lagging developers (Electronic Arts, whatever brain-dead crew made "Juiced")... money talks, and if they don't keep up with the competition (that is, developers who can program ps3 correctly), they will lose... money.
You're so money.
Kspraydad @ Nov 7th 2007 8:55PM
@ Digi...which console is cheaper?
I just picked up an awesome game machine that plays Next Gen video, wireless streaming of PC content and provides free online play (oh, and came with 6 movies and a game) for $399.

exactly if 360 owners complain that ps3 graphics are better they can just tell them well blame Microsoft for not making it so powerful. maybe they will go out and buy a PS3!
Shadowen @ Nov 7th 2007 11:14PM
Id be willing to wait till christmas to see this game braught up to ps3 optimization and everything done flawlessly. =\

We are finally seeing a clear line between the quality programmers who succeeded on the PS3 and can write home about it versus those who didn't or didn't even try (EA, ex-Harmonix dev, and Valve).
Shadowen @ Nov 7th 2007 11:16PM
but to be fair, thats because Im not getting any more games till Christmas, Eye of Judgment was my last non-gift purchase XD

Hector can you please point out what parts of the article are lies? I mean if you are gonna call out one of the site's best bloggers please back up your claim.
I'm glad devs have finally overcome the initial hurdle of coding fot the PS3. It seems like a lot of game devs and publishers are finally coming around and this can only mean higher quality ports, less delays and maybe even being the lead SKU for development.
