Kane & Lynch devs: "developing for PS3 is fun"

Since this is the first time they've attempted making a game on the PS3, there were hurdles and difficulties in adjusting to the system. IO Interactive's Morten Heiberg explains: "It's a challenging platform to develop on, but it's also one that has a lot of potential that's just waiting to be unlocked as people get to know it better and as developers get more skilled at utilising the machine." Why is it so different and difficult? Apparently the code looks very different after being run through the Cell processor once ported from another version of the game (360, PC).
Still, that's not to say Heiberg and crew were discouraged. There is no difference between the versions of the game, he says, and despite the additional efforts and resources needed to optimize the PS3 version, the staff enjoys the PS3's architecture, because it is so different. "... I think most developers are rather keen on getting into because it's a new fresh system and it's an interesting architecture. Development wise it's fun." We hope to hear more positive responses about the PS3 in the near future!

Wow, finally some devs who actually like what they do for a living, unlike those lazy EA types

Or perhaps they are just smart enough not to complain considering it might hurt sales. either way, kudos.

From everything I've heard, development on the PS3 *does* sound like fun for those who like interesting challenges that give back a big return. It's like designing a unicycle vs. a 3x10 speed bicycle. Sure the latter is a hell of a lot more complex, but it can also do 35MPH on a flat road.

Somebody alert Reggie Fils-Aime. He's obviously worried sick for the PS3, and just can't see any way out of its scary "box" of being so hard to develop for. I think this article would put him at ease and allow him to sleep better at night, the poor dear.

Its just a matter of time like it is for all systems. Games get better when the devs learn to program for the hardware. If you ask me, the PS3's games already look fantastic and the hardware is far from being used to capacity efficiently. Sure EA Sports got lazy but they already admitted that by saying we've fixed the problem for all future releases and now Fifa runs great! The day of easy porting is gone due to 1 system being somewhat typical to program for (360), 1 system having a fresh way to get more power out to the devs (PS3) and the last one being innovative based on i/o instead of power (Wii). You can't start anywhere and work up or down based on this gen if you want the game to perform well on all platforms. This isn't news but at least the devs that rise up to the challenge will be the ones who will have more to show in the future which will force the rest to get up to the new standards.

I don't understand this whole interview is so vague and convoluted!
They stated the ps3 "... is also one that has a lot of potential that's just waiting to be unlocked as people get to know it better and as developers get more skilled at utilising the machine."
So despite of what he just said and the "additional efforts and resources needed to optimize", he states the PS3 WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE 360 VERSION?!?!!
.....*wonders what the hell is going on*...
So did they tap into any of this potential they say is there to be unlocked?
All in all this sounds just like marketing fluff T_T
BTW.. I didn't spell utilizing wrong, Nick Doerr did =P

@Pattrips
""... is also one that has a lot of potential that's just WAITING to be unlocked as people get to know it better and as developers get more skilled at utilising the machine."
Do you see where he said "WAITING?" as people get to know it better?...
He was talking about the potential of FUTURE games, possibaly exclusives. Not this game persay.
Making this game identical, is good enough for now.
