Unreal Tournament 3 raises the graphics bar, says Mark Rein

How about programming difficulties? Rein says such things had no effect on them in the end. "I don't think the PS3 was any more of a challenge than any other new piece of hardware that we've used. Remember, we've been making PC games for years and the PC isn't one platform, it's hundreds of platforms. There's no two PCs that are completely identical in many cases." The game also seems to go at just the right speed for a console, he said, lending itself well to controller ... controls. Though you can still use a keyboard/mouse if you'd like. Which will you guys use?

I'll take the SIXAXIS or DualShock3 for this one. The KB/M is excellent.... if you are sitting at a desk or table but its a bit akward when I'm sitting in my recliner or sofa.

i don't want to balance a kb/m on my lap, so 6axis for me.
game should be arriving right as my COD4 fix winds up.
Warhawk, COD4, UT3 - too many good PS3 online games to play...

I have a nice desk chair, so PC for me! I may get COD4 for PS3, though.

Any news on whether there is servers only for Sixaxis(or Dualshock 3)?
If there are servers only for REAL controllers this will be a must buy. I'm not paying $60 bucks to play against folks with homing bullets.
Beast @ Nov 9th 2007 6:37PM
Keyboard and mouse for sure! If you controller guys are already asking for 'controller only servers' then clearly that is an admission of kb/m superiority. Despite what the dev says, no FPS is suited to a controller. Even Oblivion is a little painful with a controller!
I'm actually slightly disgusted that PS3 game devs don't make this option available in every single game out there. Sure Sony wants to see more Sixaxis/Dualshock 3s, but kb/m support is native in PS3 - USE IT GAME DEVS!!
I've been avoiding FPS games like the plague on PS3 waiting for UT3 and its kb/m support. I got Resistance second hand the other day and the frustration of the controller is really ruining it for me. Warhawk is fun, but only because everyone else is just as disadvantaged by the controller - it could be a lot more fun and frantic with the added precision kb/m brings.
I'll admit, historically I'm a PC gamer and this is my first console so my controller skills aren't mad crazy - but I'm not uncoordinated either - the controller just isn't the best tool for the job!

I doubt many people will argue that a controller is more acurate than a mouse. But as others have said,if you big screen TV is in your living room and not at a desk using KB/M just isn't practical.

Dual Shock 3.

Using that logic they would never sell steerng wheels for consoles either. Face it, using kb/m is just a perception thing that console gamers have trouble accepting. UT3 is a game that screams out for precision - why would you want to cripple yourself buy using a ham fisted controller?
If there is support in games for kb/m, and gamers want to use it but don't want to balance the kb/m on their laps in their lounge rooms (far enough) then there is a market for someone (hello Logitech) to design a lap friendly equivalent.
In the meantime, I'll be using my kb/m on a lap tray and enjoying the game the way it was meant to be played :P.

The only games kb/m are good for are shooters, nothing else. Not even so much the kb as much as the mouse, since trying to perform complex, quick manuevers with the kb is fairly difficult with only one hand. I prefer using the controller for playing games. The only advantage kb/m have over controllers is accuracy, but when it comes to moving around, jumping over things, climbing, ducking, the controller is the better choice.

I *would* play with a mouse, but not the keyboard; it's too bulky, too many keys. It would be nice if the PS3 had some sort of wireless peripheral (similar to the Wii's nunchuck) that controlled movement and could be used in conjunction with a wireless mouse.
Pickoo @ Nov 10th 2007 6:11AM
Beast stop complaining and shoving your god damn kb/m down our throats - controllers are much more comfortable and less in the way. you dont really get 'disadvantaged' by a controller. its too hard to use a keyboard + mouse if you're on a couch anyway - i like to play my games leaning back, not hunching forward and having to pay thousands in chiropractic bills.
kalon @ Nov 10th 2007 9:23AM
what about the frag fx. anyone used it?
Popfrogs @ Nov 10th 2007 10:36AM
@12: Nice flame, but Beast has a point. All kb/m users know how much more accurate a mouse is and how you can easily spin 180 or more degrees instantly rather than having to wait for your character to pivot at a set speed with the controller.
Although to level the playing field, we will need kb/m only servers. I play with both but if I had a controller it'd be a nightmare to be on a server with kb/m players.

for the person who asked, yes there is an option to restrict the use of mouse/keyboard in the match setup and vice versa. It was mensioned in a video i saw a couple if weeks ago on gamespot or ign or sumin....

So no one has any comments on how it was so easy for them to develop for the PS3? After a whole year of whining from young developers and jeering from internet trolls? Well then...
It's true, anyway. The difference being that before the XBox, and the influx of starry-eyed script kiddies who would cry if they didn't have their Visual Studio, all consoles were different. It took a degree of skill and creativity to make the hardware do what you wanted. And it used to be fun.
