Unsurprising: Oblivion on way to cancellation

This comes as unsurprising news, especially when one considers the incredible lack of news surrounding the title. Although GameStop is saying the game is dead, Bethesda still refuses to comment on the game. "We haven't changed our stance that we are not talking about this title right now," says Pete Hines, V.P. of Marketing and Public Relations at Bethesda.

who agrees with me when i say bethesda should just create an entirely new elder scrolls world small enough to fit snugly on the psp rather than trying to take oblivion and cramming it on there? that would be cool. their definitely wouldn't be as much stuff, but hey... IT WOULD BE PORTABLE!!! and it would still have enough to be fun... We know what kind of wonders can be worked with the space on umds...

I can't say I'm surprised. The game struggles to run well on next gen consoles, there was no way they'd create a game deep and pretty enough to satisfy Elder Scrolls fans for the PSP. It was a project to ambitious for the handheld.
I probably wouldn't of bought it, so no loss.

i would have bought it. i dont have a good computer so i wanted to try it out on psp. :(

First: they already said it is part of the Travellers series...it runs on mobile platforms and would have ZERO problems running on the PSP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_Travels
Critical Reaction
The reviews it received were mostly mediocre to average. Notable concerns from reviewers included a weak draw distance, constant pop up due to the draw distance, overall graphical quality, and janky combat. Still, reviewers generally praised the game for its large world, great sound and the large amount of content.
Maybe THAT is the reason to not develop it further (or they are going DS)
Second: There are 10 million worldwide new users of PSP by this Xmas...are we all playing nothing?

What I said is a possibility. This wasn't just an Elder Scrolls game for PSP. This was Oblivion for PSP. I'm sure they ran into problems or this project wouldn't be so secretive with barely any news, and zero videos at all. That usually means the project is going badly, when things are so quiet.
And I am familiar with the N-Gage Elder Scrolls. It was definitely an accomplishment for handheld gaming but not without it's problems.

Ew - that link took me to KOTAKU. Any *reliable* news source available on this? You know, one that -didn't- get blacklisted by Sony and carries an anti-Sony grudge the size of the national debt?
In other local news: "I probably wouldn't of bought it" - OW. I'm no grammar cop but JESUS. That's HAVE bought it. Not OF, for fuck's sake! Way to take whatever point you may have had and slap a big 'I'M NINE!' stamp on it.

Maybe if we have the chance to see the game in action, we could judge better. But as things go, I bet the game must have pretty bad development issues to get to the point of being canned.
Still, I would've liked a game like this on the PSP.

If lack of news and a longer than needed dev cycle meant a game was on its way to extinction then "Castle Crashers" and "Little Big Planet" would surely be canceled by now.
