Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command launches, does anyone care?
However, Games Workshop did manage to sneak out a short demo that gave a very small taste of what gamers can expect from the game. In spite of its length deficiency, the demo definitely showed the game had promise.
To show our remorse, we present you with the game's launch trailer, which THQ kindly sent out two days after the game's actual release.

I liked the Warhammer 40,000 RTS PC games, so this one just will never do it for me.

I noticed the lack of attention as well. I love tactical games a'la xcom, and I love 40k, but I haven't been able to find reviews for this game.

The game is top notch, shame about the lack of press. Very slick production, smooth gameplay and intuitive controls. I can only hope for downloadable content.

The demo was fantastic! I'm seriously considering picking it up and I'm not a fan of Warhammer...like at all. I despised it before I played this game's demo.

sunce i like tactics and rts games, i'll most likely pick it up and give a try. after all, ya' don't have to be a fan of a particular game or genre to try it....right?

I just picked up my pre-order yesterday. The demo influenced me to pick it up. For only $30.00, you are getting an excellent strategy game that can also be played online with up to 8 players. Although I admit the game does need a little more content, overall the game play is incredible. For the price and the untra smooth game play, Squad Command is a bargain. I've never played any Warhammer 40K game and now this title has piqued my interest in the tabletop game. Don't let no publicity prevent you from picking this game up. It's a worthy purchase for anyone's collection.

Played the game... Easy to grasp game play and mechanics. I could say, one of the best, enjoyable, and graphically good tactical game on the PSP so far (Setting in the W40k universe is a big plus).

I care! Picked the game up today, although it was a bit of a pain to find. (Only two stores out of the six I called had it in stock.)
I think it's more a case of being trampled under the big releases this month than some statement to the game's quality. I highly recommend anyone interested in tactical games check out the demo. It's intutive and fun right from the start.
And seriously, support these $30 PSP games (like last week's Silent Hill Origins or October's Dracula X Chronicles). We need to see more of these quality releases at such an attractive price point.

Gotta chime in here. I too was no fan of Warhammer until I played the demo. The demo for this game was great. And the price is only $30 at launch rather than $40. Sign me up.
I'm loving all the PSP turn based strategy games.

Hi. I haven't played Warhammer 40,000 for the PC but I have played Company of Heroes (same company same flag based capture system) which was phenomenal. This company has been releasing some quality games. I played the demo of Squad Commander and I loved the graphics, liked the animations and had fun with the action points and turn based strategy. I can not wait to get my copy. But I agree that I think they should release some downloadable content for this game.

OK. So I have the game, and I've been tooling through the first mission. Here's my impressions:
GOOD:
• Looks Great.
•Sound is good.
•Controls well.
NOT SO GOOD:
•NO camera snap on enemy turn, even when your squad can see them.
•NO way to tell enemy health. (Maybe the TT game is like this, but I doubt it!)
•Overwatch could be more robust (like "Rebelstar: Tac Command")
•Not a whole lot of tactical options (hope this changes further in. I hear there are jump-packs)
•NO hotseat mode.
•NO instant action / skirmish mode.
•Flimsy options for online play.
I'm still excited to get further into it, but the general feel is that of an unfinished game. SOOOO many little omissions. At least, with the DS ver., you'll have the map visible at the same time as the playing field, so there's less risk of missing all the pretty explosions.
I may trade this bad boy in for the DS version, but I'll wait for reviews.

Unlike most here I've been a longtime fan (since it came out)of Warhammer 40K. And while I haven't been happy with every digital rendition of the game, this one reminds me more of the original rules than any other version. Although Dawn of War is probably one of the best RTS games ever, there have been some really poor 40k games in the past.
The demo is fun and I am very glad that they're finally coming out with psp games at a reasonable launch price but I think I'm probably going to get this for the DS initially. I have a feeling someone wll be getting me this one over the holidays.

Turn the tactical map on when the enemy goes. That's the best way to see what they are doing.

I've finished the first 3 missions. Only problem that I've had is that the AI isn't aggressive enough. Since there is no time or turn limit, you can just sit back and slowly pick the Chaos soldiers off. They will try to flank you at times but they don't bring enough soldiers to do much damage.

The DoW series is cool but... seriously who plays epic? No one.
Squad command is what the WH40K ruleset was designed for and it gives exactly the gaming experience I was hoping to get out of the PSP. I loved the table top game, but it is a pain in the but to find players(1), space(2) and time(3). And even when you manage to get all three, chance says two of them will be lacking ideal qualities. With online play I can play people of my skill level when I have time without donating a room to a board game for a weekend, never mind donating a weekend to the boardgame.
The game has a lot of short comings though, short, low customization, bolters are useless, and barely a tenth of the table top game in terms of scope. But all of that is overshadowed by a smooth engaging tactical interface, and the time-tested WH ruleset. Out side of gameplay the screens are below average and clunky, but who cares.
Even with the limited scope of Squad Command you can get 40-60 hrs of play time before this game loses its glimmer. And you'll find the single player aspect of Squad Command more challenging, more tactical, and smoother than the other PSP tactical games.
Squad Command for the momment is very satisfying but there is still a long way to go before it can match the table top in gameplay.
The lack of press is really sad, I mean the game wasn't even placed on the new release shelf at gamestop, ouch!
I cant find a single fan site on the internet, which is too bad because organizing a nice 4v4 game really requires a forum of some sort.
Again, wheres the fan site?
