Nope, we're not making any Electronic Arts jokes this time. This is a compliment, believe it or not. EA
recently talked about the release of
FIFA '08, saying that upon its release "the PS3 numbers were 75 per cent of the Xbox 360 numbers, despite the 360 having a massively higher install base ... That's not that the 360 has underperformed, not for a moment. That's because the appetite for a quality game on the PS3 is there and maybe FIFA is the first game to come and show where the quality is." Either that or a lot of PS3 owners love soccer. Football. Wherever you are local.
EA also touted the PS3 price cut as a source of increased game demand, saying that even with the smaller install base and recent surge in sales, "the PS3 outpunches its weight in attachment to the hardware." That phrase didn't make much sense to us, so we're assuming this is in relation to the competition? If not, whatever, our misinterpretation. How do you guys feel? Hungry for good games, or are you growing satiated with the current releases?

I'll be spending my time with Assassin's Creed and Uncharted with some Warhawk when the update rolls around. As for EA, I won't be touching anything of theirs until they get their act together.
RazielDune @ Nov 16th 2007 3:12AM
so....EA is....Praising PS3?? what? PS3 outsells wii in japan and now EA is praising PS3?....i am confuse.
mikeyboy @ Nov 16th 2007 3:24AM
im starving
KHCloud @ Nov 16th 2007 3:26AM
Like all praise for the PS3 is good but does EA realize it's probably because the PS3 has more European customers?
Valtteri Hyttinen @ Nov 16th 2007 3:43AM
With games costing from 65€ to 79€ Here in Finland the games really need to be above ok.
Nevertheless the 699€ I paid for my 60gb PS3 was worth it. It's so much more than just a console with upscaling dvd-player and Blu ray. Can't wait for Play TV.
I've downloaded every demo Euro/Us/Jpn Store has/had and there is hardly a handfull of games I'd be willing to spend so much money.
So far I've enjoyed Skate, R&CF:ToD, Uncharted(hopefully this game hasn't been spoiled with mutant apes like Far Cry) demo was awesome and GT prologue is a must have when it comes out. There you go, sad 3 titles that make me go shopping. I'm personally so tired of these FPS-games on consoles and PC. Sure there is a huge base of people bying them and that's fine, but it seems that all of those war titles seem to take so much effort out of big studios' that we don't see that many new ideas anymore. Thank god for Eye of Judgment and Little Big Planet.

"EA: PS3 owners hungry for good games"
Now I know that it's often said that a lot of people don't understand irony, and by the looks of it, neither do EA!
leiwei @ Nov 16th 2007 4:15AM
Not sure if the PS3 is going to do well this Xmas. Came back from the mall and seems like Nintendo is at it again.... putting Wii kiosks everywhere.
Tony @ Nov 16th 2007 5:01AM
Well I'm not hungry for EA games, if that's what they mean :)
Svindler @ Nov 16th 2007 5:12AM
EA ang good games? Geez... Sims 12 and tons of other series. SO I guess I'm not hungry either :D
oddball @ Nov 16th 2007 5:29AM
How come nobody has mentioned PIRACY !!
Sure the games are going to sell more on the ps3 there no exploits for it.
I cant imagine how many xbox360's have been flashed to run backups.
Obviously not the whole reason behind game sales being better but i would imagine a large chunk.
finelicker @ Nov 16th 2007 5:50AM
Sure, PS3 owners want good games. But can EA make good games?
especially with all their lazy ports. If they want PS3 owners to buy their games, they need to re-establish trust in the gamers. People are still reeling from the sour taste of the Madden 08 farce.
reakt @ Nov 16th 2007 5:55AM
I think there is now a steady flow of good games continuing to be released for PS3. Note that I don't include EA games in this definition as they've yet to show me they can make a "good game" for the PS3.
Starboy* @ Nov 16th 2007 7:06AM
Europeans are soccer fans/players, and because of that they do also buy EA's FIFA games!!!
Furthermore, Sony has a far bigger fan base than Microsoft in Europe!
And that brings us to the conclusion that more PS3 FIFAs are sold in Europe than in the US!
drdre74 @ Nov 16th 2007 7:56AM
EA just does a bad job at porting over games for the PS3 thats why people dont buy their games. I havent seen the soccer game yet so maybe its worth checking out. Until they stop making these sorry half ass ports I'll never buy a EA game.
Nate @ Nov 16th 2007 8:16AM
I'm actually having trouble keeping up with all the latest games. Not that I want them to stop making them! I'll catch up eventually, because I probably won't buy any of the FPS games for PS3 except maybe UT3. Guitar Hero III, Eye of Judgement, and Rockband have really sapped my game budget... that's $340 right there.... too bad I love the guitar games so much, or I could have pretty much every other game on PS3 I want.
Anyway, starved? Not quite yet, but if they don't keep up the games, I will be in a few months. Luckily I don't think that'll be a problem. But I agree with those who say EA shouldn't be one to talk about good games. When they actually put one out, let me know. FIFA might be one, I'm not sure, I'm not into sports games all that much.
Matt B @ Nov 16th 2007 8:31AM
Just think EA, if Madden and NCAA football were also @ 60FPS maybe you would have seen alot more sales of those titles also.
derickoleary @ Nov 16th 2007 8:36AM
Well... If EA actually put the time into the 'ports' so that they actually run... smooth then I dont think that EA are lacking titles that, at least, I would buy. I have to say that I was very disappointed with skate, the game itself was great but the FPS drops really spoilt the game for me and it seemed like they took absolutely no interest in setting up the online system for the PSN. The PSN isnt a very stable platform at best, but they could have at least tried...
I think that there can never be enough good games. Although I am definately wary of EA titles. Only reason I havent preordered NFS is to see if EA cocked up the port and put a joke of an online system in.
Honestly, I would prefer to see the PSN infrastructure improved a bit more before I would like to see more games. However, if more titles brings more console sales, then bring it on. I dont love Sony, but I dont want to see them fall flat on their face.... again *sweeps the last year under the rug*
chris.westermann @ Nov 16th 2007 10:31AM
Quality games from EA, bwahaahaahahahaa! That's hillarious.
Antec747 @ Nov 16th 2007 10:35AM
Then why aren't gems like ratchet and clank selling on PS3? It bombed in the NPD's.
Go buy that game people its solid gold!
finelicker @ Nov 16th 2007 11:33AM
Maybe EA can woo some PS3 gamers back with the upcoming orange box they are responsible for. Don't hold your breath though, I'm anticipating major gimpedness. At least that way I won't be dissapointed.
Larz @ Nov 16th 2007 1:17PM
Some people buy a lot of games, and if something desirable comes out it will be snatched up. Me personally, I probably buy 1 or 2 console games a month, if that. I prefer staying power for a game over a new experience every week. That's why Warhawk and Oblivion are must-buys for me.
I'm pretty happy with the releases for PS3 so far. It's kept my wallet pretty light. Of course, more options are always good, so let's keep the good games flowing.
By the way: "75 per cent"--I think you mean 'percent'.
mudvayne_nothin @ Nov 16th 2007 3:16PM
"and maybe FIFA is the first game to come and show where the quality is." --oh yeah i'm sure that's where he quality is..in a fifa port!
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Nov 16th 2007 3:42PM
EA is trying to say that since there is going to be a much bigger install base (because of the 40GB) more people are going to want games because more people will own a PS3.
Tmac @ Dec 4th 2007 10:49PM
"EA: PS3 owners hungry for good games"
Not from you Electronic Arts, ...not from you.
Brodiesan @ Dec 11th 2007 8:24AM
EA have been hyper critical of the PS3 for some time. As a big company they prefer the easy option of develop once and port across multi-platforms so they can churn out more licenced games as quick as possible. Maybe the tide is changing as games such as Uncharted, COD4 and R&C:ToD are showcasing the PS3's quality. EA need to develop a game with the PS3 from the start and not the shoddy ports of 360 games that are currently been churned out. Maybe then they'll actually produce a game worthy of my hard earned cash.
