Unreal Tournament III can install 3.5GB worth of data
If you so choose, you can play Midway's upcoming Unreal Tournament III with some data cached on your drive. It'll take a pretty sizable chunk: 3.5 gigs worth of data. According to Mark Rein, this will shave just a few seconds off of the already-brief load times, and is meant for the hardcore that'll undoubtedly play the game nonstop. "Yes there is an install option which places a bunch of the commonly used content on your hard drive to speed up loading and texture streaming times a bit. It does not install everything - you still have to put the disc in the drive to run the game. The install is absolutely not essential. The game runs just fine from the Bluray and load times aren't bad but if you're going to play the game a lot, and you've got an extra 3.5Gb on your hard drive, then you might as well do the install because the few seconds you save here and there will add up over time."

Cool. I always install the games data if the game supports it. I keep a very small amount of media on the ol' girl, mainly trailers to show my friends and maybe a handful of good songs and pics so I still have over 25 gigs left.

Doesn't bother me. Bring it on developers, I'll buy a bigger hard drive if needed.

So much for XBoxers with no hard drive...SOL!
Popfrogs @ Nov 16th 2007 5:52PM
Pretty nice. Every game that can cache to the hard drive, does on mine. RR7, Oblivion, R6: Vegas. Having a hard drive built into every system helps alot.

Cool Deal, I can upgrade my PS3 Hard Drive any time I want to. Thank God this system doesn't use some proprietary hard drive-like device. Well, Really who would do THAT?!
MCX @ Nov 16th 2007 6:15PM
Just give me a reason to by a 1tb or 500gb hard drive. I will happily do it.

You guys are slow, ps3 2.01 has been announced about 20 mins ago and still nothing up? Well, I understand you guys dont live on your computers. Or your job isnt important.

Oblivion installs 4.7Gb of cache on the HDD, what's the big fuss about this?
B1gC72 @ Nov 16th 2007 6:36PM
i just got down to 19GB with this weeks PSN update. im a media pack rat lol. but 3.5GB isnt that bad. i would gladly delete a couple old demos if i was low on space.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Nov 16th 2007 6:37PM
Seeing all the stuff going into this game, it will be very hard to port all of this over to the 360, due to the limitations compared to the flexibility of the PS3.

@TXCrowe
Great comment, LOL!
organic_shadow @ Nov 16th 2007 7:15PM
@8: Exactly. My 160gb(155 after format) has a bunch of save files, cache files including oblivion, a bunch of trailers, handful of PSN games, and a hefty amount of music and photos imported, and I still have around 130gb left.
When DivX support arrives though(with avi extension support) then things may change.... ;)
Evan Brown @ Nov 16th 2007 7:24PM
like some of the others said, whats the big deal, oblivion was even bigger. doesn't bother me, thats what my harddrive is for. and even if i did care, i could make an exception for UT3.
Ghaleon @ Nov 16th 2007 8:04PM
Yes, there's sure to be mass suicides among Xbox owners over that extra 2-3 second wait.
Justin @ Nov 16th 2007 8:05PM
@ organic shadow...
after formatting my 160gb... i had 149GB available...
how'd you get an extra 6GB?
Jevanzz @ Nov 16th 2007 8:10PM
That's nothing, Oblivion takes 4.6GB of disk space to shave off about 2 seconds load time, and along with 1.3GB from Assassin's Creed, 417MB from R&C and 2.5GB from Skate, I'm running out of disk space, and fast!
Frank @ Nov 16th 2007 8:12PM
Pathetic how you guys insist on bashing Xbox every chance you get. Can't you just be satisfied with your system and not feel the need to gloat about it nonstop, it's a major sign of insecurity.
Kspraydad @ Nov 16th 2007 10:39PM
Hey Rueben...start your own blog then.
qwerter @ Nov 17th 2007 1:50AM
@ Justin i got the same as you 149 gigs left of my 160gb down to 100 gigs left =(
Mak @ Nov 17th 2007 5:16AM
@14 You forget, 360 load times on UT3 (when it finally arrives), will be much slower than the PS3 version. Despite the fudged stats that Microsoft posted, the PS3's Blu-ray drive on average is significantly faster than the 360's DVD drive (Microsoft purposely left out the CAV/CLV differences, and the fact the 360 drive is 8x on dual layer 9GB DVD media).
