Sega believes PS3 to surpass 360

Noah said that the PS3 still needs "a little bit of time to grow. But all of our projections... I think that most analysts would agree that PS3 is going to catch up to the 360, if not surpass it, as more and more big titles come out." Big titles on the scale of Uncharted, we hope. It's a small quote in a big interview, but it's nice to know that a huge ex-console maker like Sega believes in Sony even after it cruelly trampled all its Dreams. Get it? It was almost clever.

Sega thinks they will succeed.. yet they dont give us online for VF 5 or VT 3.. wow sega ...
And to the fool who thinks ps3 is last and gona stay last has obviously no clue what hes talking about.. Look at the numbers the ps3 is exactly where the the 360 was 1 year out.. and they only had those numbers simply because they were the only next gen console on the market. The ps3 just outsold the wii in japan by 20k units..
the multi plat games are already beggining to look better on the ps3. the online is free, and HOME is the future..
I work at gamestop, and when i walk a made 360 fan or an average idiot that has no clue about video games over to the ps3 demo unit, and show them home, uncharted, gt5, lair, and break it down for them what the ps3 is capable of. Their eyes light up with joy, and their mouths always say. "WOW i had no idea it could do that"
Its already happening the ps3 is on the rise, and its more apparent now more then ever considering the only unsult "There are no good games" is literally over.
Disposition @ Nov 19th 2007 8:19PM
yea and i forgot to mention the 10 million xboxs are actually 5 million considering everyone has already bought 2. And the average joe in my store knows about the hardware failure rates and is disgusted like anyone else. hard core gamer or not..
They are even more encouraged to buy a ps3 when we as gamestop tell them we cant sell u a warranty on ur 360 anymore.. simply because it will break no matter what and its costing gamestop to much money..
People are stupid but not that stupid.. its only a matter of time before blu ray wins by default and the true next gen console reigns supreme..

Gamestop/EB employees barely know their own products... period.

Sam - if the average Joe has already been swayed by the Xbox 360 at 13.4 million systems sold in 22 months (through Sept '07), then the industry is going to be in a world of hurt soon. It's pretty obvious that Average Joes are buying the Wii right now (13.2 mil sold after 10 mos.) and not the Xbox 360.
The bigger question is what the 120 million PS2 owners move up to when they buy a new console. Sony stumbled out of the gate with this generation but I would still put my money on the PS3 since the system is now more reasonably priced, there are a decent number of quality games available and it's hard to ignore brand loyalty when you're looking at such a large previous generation user base.

Don't ask if we get it! That spoils it! Here I was a proud homeboy 'cause I caught it, then it's spelled out, backwards and front, and even includes an apology!

First off, I agree that GS/EB guys are usually uninformed (one actually told me last week that Uncharted was delayed. I laughed in his face), but I'm not saying Disposition is, because some things he says ring true.
It's so obviously ludicrous to even think you know who's going to "win" the console war. I actually giggled at what Sam wrote. Not because it's idiotic (he actually explained himself rather well), but because people aren't always so stupid. If consumers were so easy to figure out then I guess we'd all be buying the same things and we really wouldn't need choices at all.
So let me ask you: Do you love the experiences you get from your machine? I do. I love my PS3, just like I'm sure some of you love your 360. My only concern for PS3 sales is the hope they do well enough (they already are IMO) to continue getting more/better third party support. Other than that, I could care less how many units they sell cause it really doesn't matter.
Nobody (fanboys, analysts, talking heads) knows what is going to happen in 5 years let alone this xmas to the next. Claiming a "win" or "it's clear who the winner will be" is just a bunch of hot air.
As far as I'm concerned we're all winners, gamers that is. For those of us who've been gaming for over 20 years, this time is incredible. Did I ever believe, on those xmas mornings, playing new games on my Atari 2600 that I'd ever see a day like today when I'm playing games like AC, R&C, RFoM, Oblivion, HS, and many more? Hell no. Never fathomed it. I just took each generation with a new kids awe and just rode with it. So instead of worrying about who's "winning" or going to "win" why not sit back, take stock of what you love about gaming and just smile, cause gaming has never been better.

I think people are going to be very surprised at how well the PS3 will do in the long run. Nintendo blew their wad on a one hit wonder and Microsoft seems to be getting into the old habit of having 98% cross platform titles and only 2 or 3 good exclusive title releases a year. I think Nintendo will have to make a new console in 2 years, the Wii's lack of power will be a huge mistake for them. Developers are coming around and are actually starting to love what the PS3 has to offer are realize and will realize they can do more with the PS3 then with the Xbox360. Sony will still have to be careful, but they are capaple of matching the Wii for innovative gameplay (6axis and PS eye) as well as steal people away from the Xbox camp for having all the same cross platform titles but offering more compelling exclusive content. Time will tell, but dismissing the PS3 as third rate console will cause you to eat your words.

If sega said it were screwed haha
Gonna trade in my PS3 2moro
kentuckyfried @ Nov 19th 2007 10:15PM
The ps3 still has a chance to "win" b/c I think there are still a bunch of ps2 people who haven't quite upgraded yet, b/c of the sheer cost of both the ps3 and the 360 consoles.
I'm disappointed that I couldn't keep one guy from buying a 360 for his birthday this past week though. =(
Elsnerma @ Nov 19th 2007 10:26PM
I think everyone realizes at this point that the PS3 is gaining ground fast, so this really isn't very newsworthy.
AK @ Nov 19th 2007 10:56PM
people keep saying "well sega failed! sony will too!" unfortunately for them, they dont realize the reason sega got out of the console industry is because they lost a heap of money because their dreamcast's copy protection was so easy to get past, and so, they were forced out because of piracy.

Second: PSNetwork vs Live / DVD9 vs. Blu-ray
"Playstation network is better since I dont have to pay anything to use it" , "Blu-Ray is necessary for future games unless we want to swap multiple dvds like in the days of CD"
There is one main reason XBOX Live is paid service.. It is a costly, maintained, regulated, reliable, supported service. Yes, Playstation Network is free, and there is a reason for that too. There is nothing they can charge for at this point. Compare the two like you would over-the-air television and paid cable or satellite TV. They both provide some of the same stations, but cable is more reliable, provides more channels, comes in clear, easy to use. Over-the-air may have static, require adjustment of the antennas, very limited in choices, but, yes, it is free. There are of course ways for Sony to make the service better, but based on Sony's hype machine, wait until it comes out to judge the change it will really make. Also, keep in mind much of Sony tech and ideas are "borrowed" from other companies (2.0 menu and Sprint's recent marketing campaign anyone?) and that which they do try to push on their own is often over rated and not quite what they promise. For those worried about DVD9 not having the capacity and think Blu-ray capacity is needed... Crysis, the most visually stunning power hungry game created to date, is 5.46GB on DVD.
Galley @ Nov 20th 2007 8:51AM
The PS3 will eventually be the champ; mark my words!

@ Sam
"Simple economics" - I couldn't have put it better myself: SIMPLE. Fortunately for Sony, economics are not simple and professional analysts, who have have a FAR greater understanding of economics and market forces than you, I, or any forum posting fanboys, invariably predict that the eventual winner this gen will be either the Wii or PS3, and only then by a narrow margin.
The notion that the average Joe has been swayed by the 360 (or even the Wii) completely ignores the fact that less than 35m consoles have been sold so far this gen, when the final number is expected to be upwards of 200m. Europe is expected to be the decisive battleground this gen, and the PS3 (which has only been available for about 6 months over here) is already outselling the 360 on a weekly basis. Outside the US, the PS3 is virtually guaranteed to outsell the 360, and if Blu-ray triumphs over HD-DVD (which is almost inevitable), PS3 sales in the US (the most saturated HDTV market) are likely to pick up considerably.
@ AK
Piracy was only a small contribution to the failure of the DC. It was primarily because Sega lost developer confidence and haemorrhaged money with several failed products (SegaCD, 32x & Saturn). The DC was a quality product but Sega just didn't have the money to continue, unlike its main rivals Nintendo & Sony.
@ Shinobijutsu
I believe Crysis is just over 6GB, but it also does not have a great deal of variety in the level design or much in the way of story. Uncharted uses 22GB with no duplication, largely because it features and 102m of cutscenes. The fact that Crysis is power hungry is essentially meaningless when it comes to a debate about optical media (bear in mind that PC games are installed, and do not run from the disk). Perhaps the chief advantage of Blu-ray capability is that it attracts film-enthusiasts as well as gamers. That will become telling when Hi-Def media begins to take more market share. The multimedia capabilities of the PS3 should not be ignored.

I just want to say I have been gaming for years as well. The first system I had which my old man bought was get ready...the ODYSSEY and alot of people dont remember nor know what console that is.
I played KC Muchkin, which is sort of like Pac-Man, and KC CrazyChase, which is the same also like Pac-Man but you also had to chump a centiped. Map editor was included for both.
XDragon @ Nov 26th 2007 4:35PM
I'm all for it Sega but get your act together already. No Daytona 2 or House Of the Dead 4 release? How about a real Phantasy Star 5 or a new Panzer Dragoon? So much potential, so little action.
