Quantic Dream buys cutting edge motion-capturing tech

The company claims their goal is "interactive cinema in which realistic, believable characters play a central role." As if that weren't enough to get you excited to see more of their mysterious PS3 project announced back in July, you'll see other companies using this new technology too as Quantic Dream is renting out their equipment to other developers. Until we hear more, or preferably see more, that's all we know.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this game turns out. Should be good

I hope the new motion capture system is geared toward facial tracking, specifically lip tracking. In this video of Heavy Rain, the girl looks like she took a few punches to the mouth right before this video was created.

You know those things ain't cheap. That they spent this tells me they're serious about this game, which I had doubts about as Skyfire360 points out. The best mo-cap I've seen in a game (and better than a lot of movies) is by far Heavenly Sword. If there's is that good, I'll buy.

@2 Gah, the voice acting in that Tech Demo is horrible. It sounds like that girl got punched in the mouth 30 times, or was severely novocained up. That, and it seems like "Mary Smith" is trying too hard to hide an accent.

It should be noted that Quantic Dream has become, if not more so than a game developer, a supplier of motion capturing services. That's not to say they aren't game developers, they have just become fairly well known as a motion capturing studio.
Hopefully they flesh out a complete game this time, both Omikron and Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy weren't bad, just tragically flawed.

WOW... look at that image... They did a really good job recreating Sarah Silverman.

I really dug the concept behind Indigo Prophecy. I just hope this game is as cool but offers a little more in the way of action. I think their whole approach to gaming as a whole sounds fantastic. Also, is it just me, or isn't it a little weird seeing the Toyota Yaris/Xbox360 ad on PS3fanboy? Perhaps it's just me.
