Rumor: 2K Games Boston avoiding PS3 for next title

Perhaps they already have all the help they need for the PS3 version of whatever it is, or they aren't planning to get involved with Sony yet. We don't know and since it is just a random job listing, we won't rule the possibility out yet, but we won't say anything to mislead you, either. Chances are, PS3 owners won't get any 2K Boston games anytime soon.

i think the only game genre PS3 is not showing its potential in is the sports games.
sports games makers have a to churn out a game every year and they are to lazy to code properly for ps3
mat parker @ Nov 26th 2007 3:20PM
ahh Bioshock 2 this time with multiplayer!!
proog @ Nov 26th 2007 3:28PM
Ah well, we'll get enough big exclusives that 360 users will turn green with envy...
chasegamez @ Nov 26th 2007 3:35PM
who cares
Leo @ Nov 26th 2007 3:53PM
Exactly.
Intentless @ Nov 26th 2007 3:33PM
The difference between Bioshock and MGS4 and Final Fantasy is the guys behind Bioshock simply say there is no PS3 plan for Bioshock... As opposed to the MGS4 team is not making a 360 version... Or a 360 version isn't currently planned or any other way they have come to say there isn't a 360 version without actually saying there isn't for sure...
ymmv @ Nov 26th 2007 3:36PM
You guys should check 2K Boston's job listings. They need a tools programmer who has experience working with UE3 and PS3 (among other things). If you're a Senior Console Programmer, it would really help your application if you know your way around a PS3...
http://2kboston.com/jobs_programming.php#toolsprogrammer
organic_shadow @ Nov 26th 2007 4:12PM
So wait, they ARE hiring for PS3-related positions? I thought this article just specifically mentioned that they ARE NOT hiring for any PS3 work?
Also, didn't the 2K jobs listing thing request PS3-experienced people a month or so before Bioshock launched? It could be possible that they already have PS3 programmers etc. and are hiring extra and/or replacement 360/PC developers.
PSPDog @ Nov 27th 2007 8:59AM
Apparently, according to PS3Fanboy, if 2k hires for x360/windows then that must mean that they will never develop a game for PS3 again. Instead of just looking at one employment opportunity, they should have checked 2K Boston's official job opening list.
Pretty poor investigation, ps3fanboy.
DownwardMonkwy @ Nov 26th 2007 3:49PM
Said it before, I'll say it again. I found Bioshock average, good average but average. I've gone back to Half Life 2 and R&C.
naruto007 @ Nov 26th 2007 3:57PM
compared to crysis bioshock is a jk
rainking187 @ Nov 26th 2007 5:27PM
Really? Cause I know Crysis has nice graphics, but aside from that it's pretty much your run of the mill FPS. At least Bioshock did something different in regards to story. "What's that you say? You fight aliens in the future in Crysis? Aliens! In the future! Wow, what a totally original idea that no one could possibly be sick of!"
FrankTheCrank @ Nov 26th 2007 3:58PM
And if Sony comes through and sells a ton of consoles, you'll be able to wipe your ass with this story....after you print it out, of course.
Byron517 @ Nov 26th 2007 4:09PM
I personally didn't like Bioshock all that much.. It was interesting but it didn't grab me.. Oh well I'm not worried there's to many good games out right now to be worried if Bioshock is coming to the PS3 or not
J-MART @ Nov 26th 2007 4:11PM
Umm I know this is PS3 fanboy and all, but lets face it, calling bioshock an average or even bad game is ridiculous. I have a PS3 and a 360 and love them both equally, but just because some of YOU have a vendetta against a 360, dont take it out on a great game such as Bioshock, a work of art game that deserves to be GOTY.
Grow the hell up people
railven @ Nov 26th 2007 4:25PM
Ahhh yes, Bioshock is the end-all FPS.
Eyah, sure.
Maybe it was the best FPS ever made for a 'console' but in the PC world, Bioshock is and will forever be mediocre. Hell, I think Systemshock 2, what Bioshock is literally a remake of, was more "original" back when it first debuted in the 90's.
Bioshock is a decent FPS, maybe even a great 'console FPS,' but holds no candle to other FPS. I'd even take CoD4 over Bioshock.
Budman @ Nov 26th 2007 5:25PM
To what you have said, I own a 360 and to me, the best game on it is Earth Defense Force 2017. I'm not being childish or anything like that, but the game was just plain fun to the point that after playing that, Bioshock came off as just another FPS. Which it really is, no matter how you look at it. (I also blasted through most of the game with the monkey wrench, BTW!!!) Game of the year or not, I don't really care. FFXII was really popular, but I found it to be less than stellar compared to FFX. Dragon Quest VIII? Boring. What I'm getting at is just because something is popular doesn't mean that everyone on the entire planet must lemming to it. On the contrary. We as gamers must realize that not everygame is created equal in every eye, thus making one man's treasure another man's mediocre experience. I'm not ripping on the 360, far from it. I'll take some flak on this site by saying it is a very good system, if only for Blue Dragon, Earth Defense Force, and Dead Rising. But, for the love of God, Allah, and Stephen King, please enjoy the games that you like and let those that differ from you enjoy theirs. Now, I'll finally shut up!
Dehshizknight @ Nov 26th 2007 4:22PM
Yes! We got the new commenting system that you guys were talking about in your latest Fancast!I'm gonna see if my favorite avatar is an acceptable size on here...
I don't really care about 2K Games much anyways. I have too many other titles to buy/play, so this doesn't matter.
XDragon @ Nov 26th 2007 4:25PM
I'm being honest not biased, all their sports games are terrible in comparison to others. I'm sure there's a few non-sport titiles that people like but as an owner of a ps3 and 360, I still don't have any of their games.
Rasta @ Nov 26th 2007 8:00PM
Well I have yet to play NBA2k series on the 360 but I've played 2k7 on the PS3, and I have to say... that game is remarkable... I do have to say that there is a slight delay in the reaction of the players on the ps3 compared to the ps2 version, but after a one quarter in the game you get use to it. I haven't played the newest version, and I know that 2K sports always improves greatly after each iteration, so I can only imagine that game getting better. Madden on the other hand as everyone knows is all garbage... I mean you can't get use to that lag, there's no way around it, especially since that game is driven by timing and reading the defense... if anything 2ksports knows how to handle the ps3, and EA just likes to jerk us around.
Leobebes @ Nov 26th 2007 4:53PM
Railven...
COD4 is better than Bioshock? Bioshock is a mediocre game compared to the pantheon of PC gaming? You are on a console forum bashing a premier console game that last time I checked isn't a war shooter. COD4 is great but in the end it's another war shooter with mulitplayer upgrades. Bioshock incorporated a deeper attempt at stroytelling that COD4 didn't even attempt to do. I would rather sit through the ramblings of a Andrew Ryan than read some random quote from Condi Rice. If you played both games thoroughly, which I doubt you haven't, you would get my last little statement there smart guy.
railven @ Nov 26th 2007 9:28PM
I stated, maybe for 'consoles' Bioshock is a "great game." I picked it up for PC over 360 (I have the better hardware for it.)
Okay, so all of a sudden I'm suppose to hinder my opinion because I'm on a console website? After playing Bioshock on PC and comparing it to current console shooters, I'd take CoD4/Halo3 over it. Yeah, the story line was interesting and frankly a breath of fresh air, but after two run throughs (for both endings) the game was done. I'm not an "achievements" whore (as there weren't any on the PC) so why pick it up again?
I've yet to see any DLC from the mod communities.
Again, with Orange Box out now on 360 I'd take that over Bioshock as it too has an interesting story with rehashed game play mechanics, ie see System Shock 2, and in the end has more replay value thanks to the Multiplayer aspect.
Bioshock is a mediocre game as it does nothing for the genre but provide a captivating story. So, I drudged through just to listen to the audio tapes and "find out what happened" only to realize the gameplay is remarkable repetetive (yeah what game isn't) and lacking in innovation.
Livi70590 @ Nov 26th 2007 5:04PM
boooo.
ymmv @ Nov 26th 2007 5:35PM
Lemme say it again ... 2K Boston is currently seeking PS3 programmers... Look at the job listings on their site. That must mean they're working on _something_ PS3 related....
Byron517 @ Nov 26th 2007 6:11PM
Thank you!
Darkdrium777 @ Nov 26th 2007 7:03PM
Meh I played Bioshock on PC, all graphics to the max and stuff. Fun concept with the plasmids and the weapons but it gets repetitive at some point (Near the end I just zipped through it because it was getting boring and tedious) and you can become so much more powerful than your average splicer it's just unfair. The ending I got ([*****SPOILER******] The evil one, because I killed all the sisters [*****SPOILER*****]) sucked and I have no envy whatsoever to play it again to see the other ending... It might be game of the year, but I find it extremely overrated. I'd rather play something else, like Oblivion.
Dante @ Nov 26th 2007 8:18PM
umm but a little while back they claimed they needed ps3 devs on their team...maybe they found them...who knows..we have to wait and see when its official...but then again im sure microsoft threw loads of money at them since the success of bioshock.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Nov 26th 2007 8:32PM
Well this is pretty lame.
(P.S. Thank god you have the new comment system up!)
Tony @ Nov 26th 2007 8:44PM
I also have Bioshock on pc. Pretty average. Fun at the start then gets very repetitive, very quickly. Maybe the reason it got good reviews is the reviewers are used to poor console shooters. No offense, but console shooters don't even begin to compare to pc shooters. The only console shooter I've had fun with are Warhawk, Gears of War, and RV6. But like I said, people are used to mediocore games like Halo and Bioshock...
NitroFrost @ Nov 26th 2007 9:13PM
BIOSHOCK TO PS3 O MY GOD ......................that would never happen because the PS3 is dead. Now start the FLAMES
railven @ Nov 26th 2007 9:33PM
Call me a prick if you want, but as a gamer I find it only the 360 Fanboys calling Bioshock a marvel.
Most PC gamers I talk to (CoD4 clan) found the game boring and to easy due to being brought back to live after dying. They took out strategy from the game with that hiccup. You can play the whole game free of fear knowing you can run and gun, die, come back, run and gun, rinse and repeat.
Don't even get me started on the hacking! Anyone who has played Ratchet & Klank, now that is a hacking mechanism that is fun.
Bioshock looks gorgeous, but after getting my hands on Crysis I will never consider Bioshock's graphic engine top notch.
Oh wait, I can't list a PC game here, sorry.
sicklesdawg @ Nov 26th 2007 10:46PM
Well screw them
Pulse-Wave @ Nov 27th 2007 2:03AM
Verily I say unto you, it is all good.
Give to Xbox what is Xbox's, and to PS3 what is PS3's.
tt @ Nov 27th 2007 4:03AM
doesnt matter. let the pc style games come out on 360 and pc and the console games come to ps3. I like Bioshock but its really a best fit on the PC
