AOL giving free PS3, Ratchet & Clank to new internet subscribers
Now this deal comes with several conditions. If you live in the UK, need a new internet provider and a 40GB PlayStation 3, then this could be the deal for you. AOL is currently offering a free 40GB PS3 and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction for new subscribers who are willing to sign a two-year contract for its £19.99 a month AOL Broadband Wireless Plus package.
After you complete the two-year contract, the PS3 is yours forever. The only thing you'll have to pay upfront is the £14.99 delivery charge for your new PS3.
We have to admit, this is a pretty good deal anyway you slice it. After all is said and done, you'll spend about £480 to get broadband internet for two years, a new PS3 and game, and the satisfaction that you technically got a PS3 completely free.
Disclaimer: PS3 Fanboy is owned by AOL.

Great deal, aside from the part where you have to sign up for AOL.

Do you have to wait the Two Years?
Chris @ Nov 27th 2007 6:16PM
No, you'll get your system when you sign the contract.
recon @ Nov 27th 2007 6:06PM
word! Thats the big question "do you have to wait til after the 2 yrs?"
cause thats a PS3 for $240.00
Eric Gula @ Nov 27th 2007 6:47PM
Correction, that is in pounds and you are required to sign up for a two year contract. You do get to keep the PS3 obviously, yet if you were to cancel there would be cancellation fees to cover up for the cost of the PS3.
24 Months * 19.99 Pounds = 479.76 Pounds (w/o any taxes). Which is converted over to $991.76. And that isn't even with the delivery charge.
recon @ Nov 27th 2007 7:51PM
aaaaahhhhh, i didnt know that
Random1448 @ Nov 27th 2007 6:19PM
Damn, AOL actually found a reason to sign-up for their service lol.

robbyp3 @ Nov 27th 2007 9:15PM
I thought AOL was a free service now, at least in the US?
jacksealey @ Nov 27th 2007 6:49PM
@6 (recon)

Tim @ Nov 27th 2007 6:51PM
Jesus. Even for pounds that is a good deal.
Dehshizknight @ Nov 27th 2007 7:01PM
Its a good deal, I think. Because you get a PS3 and the broadband needed to go with its online services.
I experience AOL once but it was dial-up and it blew. I hope their broadband service is better...
maduin @ Nov 27th 2007 8:25PM
40GB download limit? Wow, I could never stand any type of capped usage on my internet service. Is that common for European ISP's?
derickoleary @ Nov 27th 2007 9:36PM
I know its standard to be capped in Australia... and yes it does blow.
Snutz @ Nov 27th 2007 8:48PM
Considering the 40 gig PS3 goes for 300 pounds to begin with I'd say this is a good deal, especially since it comes with Ratchet and Clank instead of Spiderman 3. If you're thinking about getting a PS3 anyways, it's basically like getting 2 years of broadband for 180 pounds, which even in US dollars is about 15 bucks a month. My guess is that's considerably cheaper than what they pay for internet in the UK, considering how expensive the PS3 is there.
adamantypants @ Nov 27th 2007 9:42PM
It's not free, but it along with any other dial-up service is dirt cheap.
AOL just needs to keep its software in check and they should be okay with this offer.
Sammy @ Nov 27th 2007 10:30PM
I have only used AOL round a friends house... it is almost like not having the internet. It is a strange and abstract experience that distantly resembles it.
Just buy a good PS3 bundle and get a good broadband deal...stay well away until they run there service like a normal company.
I mean by time this offer runs out probably both the internet and PS3 will be a lot cheaper. If you want it now that badly use a "buy now, pay later" or Hire and Purchase.

LOLOLOL
MGSteve @ Nov 28th 2007 3:21AM
lol, love the 'PS3fanboy us owned by AOL' disclaimer!!
Hey, at least they're honest and upfront about it. However, if you're after a broadband connection and can live with the 40GB Cap, its actually not a bad deal, considering.
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 28th 2007 7:43AM
LMAO@ That Disclaimer!!!!
Insomniac @ Nov 28th 2007 12:13PM
Most, if not all, broadband providers use capping in the uk. Only Virgin out of the big boy's provide no download limit, but throttle back your service between peak times if theres a lot of traffic and you down load over a certain amount.
Iridium @ Nov 28th 2007 1:06PM
Usually at least here AOL for broadband is just a software apckage that runs on top of a line AOL leases from another provider. As long as the connection is active you don't even have to run the AOL software. Just have your router sign you in.
$40 a month is a little steep for 8mb broadband in the UK isn't it?
Lee @ Nov 29th 2007 2:46PM
the only thing missing from the add is the bit that says"only from the carphone warehouse" if you call AOL about either the "free" laptop or PS3 they will tell you to call into a store and it's then that you will find out that the Broadband is only £19.99 if AOL own the exchange your phone is connected to if not then its anything from £29.99 to £39.99 for the Broadband with the PS3/laptop so thats (29.99 x 24) £719.76 or (£39.99 x 24) £959.76. or you can just pay £299 in your local shop lol
