We uncovered Operation: Omega Dawn
yesterday, a brand new
Warhawk expansion pack. Sony Computer Entertainment American updated its press site with new information regarding the expansion. The download will cost $7.99, and will be available in December. According to the press release, "The Dropship act as a multiplayer Boss character, similar to those found in single player games, and creates memorable moments where seven players are operating in smooth coordination."
The Dropship will not only be integrated into the brand new Omega Factory battleground, but will be available in the largest maps from the original game. We're bound to find out more as the expansion's release draws near.

Talk about lame add-ons for extra money. With all the weak add-ons showing up on PSN for Motorstorm and now this, Sony is starting to act like M$.
Dehshizknight @ Nov 30th 2007 8:18PM
I don't see how you can say this is a lame addon. This is only the beginning of the Warhawk Booster Packs and they are only getting better.
Pistolaero @ Dec 1st 2007 1:22AM
Yes, lame. For a multiplayer-only game, stuff like this should have been included at launch. You can make all the excuses you want about how this is worth it, but I still see it as a company using DLC to screw gamers over for more money.
Larz @ Dec 3rd 2007 1:11PM
You guys are on crack. Warhawk is an awesome game, and this add-on will prove to step it up a notch. The unfortunate thing is that this game doesn't get the attention it deserves. And if it was a huge hit, then they might make content add-ons for free.
I like the pay-for-add-ons system. It keeps the games alive, and fresh. Of course I also like free add-ons even better. But this is a console, so I don't expect the same kind of thing as I do on a PC.
Justin @ Nov 30th 2007 2:38PM
Man, I heard this was free.
Oh well..I'm still buying it.
But now I'm not as happy as before.
Dehshizknight @ Dec 2nd 2007 2:03AM
Where did you hear that?
will @ Nov 30th 2007 2:40PM
they would need to add at least 5 more maps for me to pay for that. with what COD4 is offering out of the box, i can't justify this.
Noshino @ Nov 30th 2007 2:57PM
with what Source offers out of the box, I can't pretty much justify any game nowadays....
(see how you can always spin things to your advantage?)
Brendan Brown @ Nov 30th 2007 3:00PM
In a way, it is five maps--five map LAYOUTS that is.
Honestly the scale of these worlds is so much larger than the average multiplayer shooter that perhaps we should change the nomenclature: Worlds.
Larz @ Dec 3rd 2007 1:19PM
COD4 = big budget, big company, successful series, and costs $60.
Warhawk = small budget, smaller company, forgotten and not so successful series, and it costs $40.
You can make all the value comparisons you want, but sometimes you get a lot more for your buck, sometimes you get a fair amount, and sometimes you get screwed (see WarioWare: Smooth Moves, for example).
Thoas @ Nov 30th 2007 3:10PM
Nice map, but they still need to fix the rank system problems first, i have 16532 points and they still have me ranked airman first class.
warhawk @ Dec 1st 2007 4:39PM
you got the badges you require as well as those points? without those you going nowhere
Severe_Gamer @ Nov 30th 2007 2:53PM
Wow! I am confused at all the negativity aimed at this price point. For all of you who seem a little mathematically confounded, allow me to explain the price point:
Warhawk: 5 maps and 5 units (if you count just running around). It was priced at $40. This means $8 paid for 1 map and 1 unit.
Warhawk Expansion: 1 map and 1 unit. It will be priced at $8. This means $8 pays for for 1 map and 1 unit. Sound familiar? This is an exact match with the pricing of the original game! Not a great price point, but very reasonable for fans of the game!
T-P-M @ Nov 30th 2007 7:08PM
No offence but your logic is seriously flawed. A game is a lot more than just maps and units. That's like saying if you buy a car for $10,000 and it comes with 10 gallons of peteral (AKA gas) you'd expect to pay $1,000 a gallon at the pumps....
Severe_Gamer @ Dec 2nd 2007 2:24AM
You make a good point T-P-M, Warhawk is more than its maps and units. It is how those things work together that make it a game.
That said, building and tuning maps (let alone new vehicles) for a game is a **** ton of work. If I bought a car for $10k I would not expect to pay $1000 bucks for a gallon of gas (though at the rate the prices are rising...), but I would expect to pay $1000 if I wanted to install an awesome stereo system or have a custom paint job. This content is icing on the cake for those who want it, for others, the cake will be enough without the icing.
Jtenma @ Dec 3rd 2007 11:10AM
Thats why its good to have a 96' Corolla lying around at times like these when gas is sooooo HHHIIIGGHH!
Tony @ Nov 30th 2007 3:28PM
"The Dropship act as a multiplayer Boss character, similar to those found in single player games, and creates memorable moments where seven players are operating in smooth coordination." - Sounds like the Dropship was a boss perhaps in the scrapped single player version of Warhawk? $7.99 seems a bit steep for one map...are there new weapons also? New ground vehicles?
Pistolaero @ Nov 30th 2007 3:09PM
I am not upset with this price point, because I'm simply not purchasing it. Not because I don't feel it's worth the cash, but mostly because instead of focusing on making more money they should instead be putting more energy into their "muliti-player only" game.
Did they beta test with monkeys? How is it that nobody pointed out a buddy system? And if they weren't monkeys, and they did point this out, why the hell wasn't it included? Much like COD 4's Party system that allows you to crash a server with your friends.
For a game that has huge maps, I don't see how something like this could have been overlooked. So yeah, you'll have to forgive my negativity.
Colin McGinn @ Nov 30th 2007 4:01PM
I don't understand all of the negativity either. I am kind of disappointed in this community. To me this seems like a good value. The map is something that is completely different and the dropship is something that, independently, all of my friends and I have wanted since the release of this already stellar game. It will completely reinvigorate the gameplay and add new levels of strategy. I mean, you are shooting Red and Blue lazzzzers from your Warhawks in this nighttime level (a la GIJOE fame)! That alone is worth the $7.99 :)
Rank issues don't really matter (just for feeding egos) and to my knowledge they have already been fixed in the updates. I have never had any problems with it. If you are not ranking up, be sure to play in Sony ranked servers, otherwise just have fun with the game. It is a great way to be rewarded for good work though. I have COD4 and Warhawk is still my preferred online game of choice (both are excellent, though).
Julio @ Dec 1st 2007 3:24AM
I'll be buying this, I need something to pull me away from Call of Duty 4
rockmanjoey @ Nov 30th 2007 6:03PM
Seeming as my copy of Warhawk is US. I can buy from the US Store for about £3-4 :D Bargin for an expansion!!!
Wild Pegasus @ Nov 30th 2007 6:15PM
How can people complain about the price, its hardly anything.... especially considering shivering isles is $30 on the store.
Gordon Gartrelle @ Nov 30th 2007 6:49PM
Some self-entitled douchebags in here
Nacho @ Nov 30th 2007 7:04PM
Yes it is one map but as you can tell it is going to be one hell of a large map (probably to hold the 64 players) and the game dynamic and strategies would play differently (night time). Along with a new vehicle. I am in agreement with Severe_Gamer, not the best pricing but justifiable.
Nevertheless, you will see me day one in that big ship shooting you all down.
JKPierce @ Nov 30th 2007 8:10PM
Considering I just spent nine dollars for a family 'snack' at Popeye's, the pricing really isn't that bad.
For some reason, though, one seems to forget the ultimate form of consumer protest: Don't buy the damn thing if you don't agree with it.
Carlton @ Nov 30th 2007 11:40PM
@ Wild Pegasus
Have you played shivering isles? It's friggin' huge! To put it in perspective, the SI expansion alone takes longer to complete than the whole of Mass Effect (including all side missions).
As for this Warhawk expansion, $7.99 does seem like the upper end of what is acceptable for 1 map and 1 ship. But I guess people have the choice whether or not to buy, so they shouldn't grumble.
Joe @ Dec 1st 2007 12:00AM
I I am not sure if this will happen or not but seeing as the map is going to be a lot bigger what if more then 32 people could play on the same map. It might not be 64 but even adding a few more would make the game even better.
Brett Boston @ Dec 1st 2007 12:43AM
YAY I love warhawk!
ScottH @ Dec 1st 2007 2:16AM
a little pricy for just a map and a few map enhancements. For one map it should be prices 1-2 bucks. 7 bucks maybe for 3 maps. I can see how it takes time to make a new ship, integrate it into the maps and add a new map. but with all the warhawk players about 60-80% will prolly buy this at 7 bucks, thats alot of money. Thats very greedy. warhawk is still a great game. i will still probably buy this as a xmas present to myself haha :D but still c'mon 7 bucks for a simple add on map. release the map editor and ill make my own map and not charge anything, just like half-life and their mods. :P
Overgauss @ Dec 1st 2007 1:06PM
Boosters Packs traditionally run at about $2.95. 7 bucks is fleecing fans imo. They are going to push the limits then consumers will rebel after they continue to excessively feed on our wallets. It's a most natural cycle.
Livi70590 @ Dec 1st 2007 2:37PM
That Map = Quality Match Of Zones.
The_Alchemest @ Dec 2nd 2007 9:22AM
What a bunch of whiners. You buy the most expesive game system on the market, then you get the bestest video game ever for $40 (Or $60 with a bluetooth headset) and you WHINE like a bunch of babies about scrounging up $8 for an extra map.
If you don't want it, don't buy it, or quit spending your allowance on gummy bears so you can afford it.
Shameless @ Dec 5th 2007 10:17PM
Someone commented about the price of expansions being only a couple of dollars each. The majority of the expansions so far have been around the same price, the Map Packs for RFOM, the addons for motorstorm, all of it. I don't entirely agree with the alchemist, mainly in the tone of what he's saying, but as the general consensus is headed, buy it or don't, it's your choice, just don't let your personal opinions get in the way of the love of the game.
