Warhawk's new dropship on video
The upcoming Omega Dawn expansion to Warhawk is all about the brand new dropship. Not only will it be able to carry a massive number of infantry, it can fire some powerful guns, carry vehicles and make cheese. Scratch that last bit. The new vehicle is meant to give players the feeling of fighting a boss in an online game, and teams will have to cooperate with each other to make sure they're not overwhelmed by this goliath.
Stay tuned to PS3 Fanboy as we give your our hands-on impressions from the expansion pack.

Ho Lee Daym. I can't wait!
Toby @ Dec 5th 2007 12:33AM
cant wait to have Dropship vs. Dropship battles. Almost 2 flak clips to take that sucker down
Andy @ Dec 5th 2007 12:34AM
That thing moves really slow. But with some good Warhawk cover (do people even know what teamwork means in Warhawk?) that dropship could be very useful.

cheeze!? oh hell yes!!!!
oh wait... never mind...
ilike2game @ Dec 5th 2007 1:28AM
Why didn't they demonstrate it picking up a vehicle.
Brett Boston @ Dec 5th 2007 8:37PM
yeah, i wanted to see a tank or jeep get picked up
Dahk @ Dec 5th 2007 2:23AM
Yeah I wanna see how tanks and whatnot can get in lol. It doesn't really look like theres a place to store it. When you hold square, it seems like there's only room for 7/8 infantry.

I think the open bottom portion is for vehicles, it'd be cool to store a jet on it and have people from the compartment jump in and fly off in it during the middle of a battle...

More videos of Omega Dawn stuff, including vehicle pick up, here:

I'm definitely excited to see how this will affect the game, not to mention just getting into the game once more.
Any chance ps3fanboy will be hosting some games again?
MGSteve @ Dec 5th 2007 5:29AM
@3 - I thought it moved pretty quickly actually, quicker than I was expecting.
But god is that going to pack some power when its got all 6 gun ports filled.
Lets home its not too powerfull....
Greg Lewis @ Dec 5th 2007 7:37AM
It'll probably been coded to prevent this happening but I'd love the idea of picking up enemy tanks and dropping them in the sea....
Jason @ Dec 5th 2007 7:58AM
But what if that is one of the "features" of this new drop ship, and team work requires you to call for warhawk support so you dont drop into the sea!
Albert @ Dec 5th 2007 9:06AM
The dropship looks tight and all but what i'm wondering is if the ship can pick up vehicles, what is stopping someone from capturing the flag jumping in a vehicle and having this monster pick up the vehicle with the flag carrier in it and flying him back to home base to capture it? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of flying with the flag on ranked servers? Just a thought...
Jettic @ Dec 5th 2007 3:18PM
You have to remember that the drop ship is somewhat slow, it's not going to get over there fast, it can't maneuver things like rocket launchers, flak turrets, and missile turrets easily, also if they get into a car which is exposed while it's being carried, then there an easy target to eliminate..
Albert @ Dec 5th 2007 9:22AM
Sorry meant to say: "Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of not being able to fly with the flag on ranked servers?"
Akamaru @ Dec 5th 2007 9:43AM
I don't think it would be that bad. It would definitely require some teamwork to get the flag back. Also, in a warhawk you can just hit the afterbirner and you are halfway accross the map. Not so with this behemoth.
I really like Incognito's concept of a "multiplayer boss".
Service_Games @ Dec 5th 2007 9:45AM
OK, I'm convinced. Omega Dawn is most definitely a must buy for me now.

Organic_Shadow @ Dec 5th 2007 10:33AM
These videos + numble's linked videos = me buying this thing. Can you imagine having two of those things going head to head? :)
I wish they would have shown us an example battle so we can get an idea of how long it takes for some warhawks to take one of these big boys down. Like I understand how much armor it has, but it seems very slow and vulnerable. I need to see a full dropship defending against a swarm of warhawks before I can really see if I actually want to get in one of those in the game.
I will probably just wait for my team to get in one, and while they other team is distracted by it, sneak in with a jeep and call in some airstrikes. :)
Farmz @ Dec 5th 2007 11:05AM
I'd assume that you can't be in the vehicle that the drop ship is carrying. In the picks you can see all the electricity surging on the vehicle. I think it would kill the guy riding if that was the case. Or give him an immediate tumor the size of Texas. Therefore, flag carriers won't have access to the drop ship whatsoever.
Byron517 @ Dec 5th 2007 11:37AM
LMAO Dude you made me laugh out loud at work! LoL Awesome comment!!
Wayne @ Dec 5th 2007 3:12PM
I'm definately looking forward to this. If people can dismount at any time I can see people ejecting all the way to the enemy base or being killed cause a newb is at the wheel (joystick?). I wonder if it will be a "spawn point" like squad leaders in BF2...

Albert @ Dec 5th 2007 3:33PM
Hmm, so you assuming means that your not really sure? I personally have not seen anyone try to get in a vehicle and get picked up by this Behemoth in any of the videos being posted. So nobody really knows as of yet. As with the electricity, that just looks like special effects on the vehicle. Even when a warhawk shoots an electricity strike it only affects vehicles and turrets. I have yet to be killed on foot by an electricity strike. Has anyone else? Does anyone know when this Expansion pack is going to be released?
Elliott @ Dec 5th 2007 4:06PM
Looks neat. I'd like a parachute feature for both this and the Warhawks. There's nothing worse than being the passenger in a Warhawk and praying that the pilot doesn't get you slaughtered.
Darkdrium777 @ Dec 5th 2007 5:21PM
Come and I will kill you with a Lightning gun :p
I have killed some people who were on foot with it, by shooting them first with the machine gun and then by firing the charged lightning gun. The lightning gun does damage to a soldier, but only once, and it is not enough to kill him in one shot if he has 100% of his health. However, a lightning gun will cause significant damage to a vehicle and will do additionnal damage to that vehicle if it stays in the area of effect of the weapon. Of course if the lightning gun is locked on the vehicle (aka travelling with it), it will do damage until it is depleted. Yet, a single lightning gun shot is not enough to kill a Warhawk or a Tank, or even a Jeep. It is just the same for turrets. As such, the lightning gun is a great weapon for severely weakening the enemy, but it will require additional work to kill him, no matter what vehicle he is in or not. That is why having max ammo on it is very helpful to get rid of an enemy: shoot him once: he panics and is easy to target because he's doing loopings (Unless he knows what the LG is and actually is running towards health) or is driving as fast as he can, shoot him twice and he's dead. For the second shot you can actually shoot without charging it.

Wicked stuff!!!
@ 3 i agree there seems to be a distinct lack of team work on any team you are on (not you but "you" as in the royal "we") anyway my tag is gordon_strange if anyone wants to add me to play a team game!
