What's been happening with Dark Sector?

The game used to revolve around that. You'd have to put that weapon away to pull out a handgun -- lame. Not anymore. Dual-wielding has made its entrance and appears to make the game a tad bit more worthwhile. In fact, gunfighting seems to take priority over your throwing blade, somehow. Lots of black market weapon upgrades, et cetera. IGN mentions that the hand-to-hand, er, hand-to-glaive combat is a little iffy, but with a 2008 release, there still might be time to patch it up. Here's hoping the game turns out to be something special, because we'd hate to be disappointed with something that lets you throw a giant cutting blade around at will.

I was hyped about this game over a year ago but now I fell like its lost its edge. Too many good games have come out since this was first announced. Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, COD4. Plus MGS4 is about to come out. Man there is no way I'll be picking this game up over some of the other games about to drop. Unless they just somehow drop a bomb and make this a must have game like Uncharted.

i remember reading the game informer cover story on this like a year ago. 1) hurry up already. 2)it seems like they are just sitting by and waiting for all these games to come out, and then pops the other games ideas into it. first it was called "gears of war with that blade." then it was resident evil 4... with that blade. and now its heavenly sword with gunplay? just put the damn thing out already. fix it in the sequel if it goes over well.

This game looked more interesting before they completely re-designed it to look like every other popular action game that's come out in the past few years..

I totaly agree. The first look I had at Dark Sector I though it look like a great mix of Doom3 and MGS, kind of.
Now I can't see why I should bother buying it, it no longer has it's unique feel to it.

Is everyone aware that they made careful note of all criticisms and suggestions given to them by hands-on feedback? Then used all of that feedback to tune the game and refine on the things that were said to need improvement?
Uncharted did the same thing, and ended up getting some high fives for it.
ryano @ Dec 5th 2007 3:54PM
yeah, but unfortunatley for this game it feels and looks similar to every other Post apocolyptic action game out there right now. Uncharted always had it's own character. people forgave it for that and wanted to give feedback for it.
I certainly hope they dont' implement the SIXAXIS for controlling the blade like Heavenly Sword. That was a crap feature in that game and totally ruined the experience for me.
Dru @ Dec 5th 2007 6:55PM
I respect your opinion, but I thought the sixaxis control in HS was implemented really well. Not only that, but it was fun as hell, especially the cannon and Kai portions of the game. I've heard most people and critics say the same. I'd be more interested in it if I knew it played like HS in that way.

Yes, I would have liked to play the sci-fi version of this game as well... Now it's just another post apocalypse things that make no sense whatsoever... Really do they all think we will end up waging nuclear war until we are extinct? Humans certainly did make the A-bomb, but really, that's just over exaggerating man's stupidity.
Urza @ Dec 5th 2007 5:57PM
Atleat it's not another not great over hyped holiday game. :)

hi dru,
I think i may have had more fun watching the frustration my friend had with those segments than actually playing them myself. :p
every time i tried to land an arrow 3 enemies would always come in on my blind side.
In heavenly sword i rarely ever threw enemies in that view. that sheild puzzle felt needless as well.
to have that control in this type of game would slow the action down i think.
