Lost Planet launches with a budget price
Capcom's big PS3 surprise was a port of the former Xbox 360 exclusive, Lost Planet. Disappointed PS3 fans expecting more were dismayed by the idea of yet another port, and threw a collective tantrum on the internet. Well, at least Capcom's making a smart move by pricing next year's port at a discount price. If Capcom's official store is to be believed, the game will launch for only $40 -- that's $20 less than the standard retail price for games.
Capcom's booth at New York Anime Fest (which includes a playable PS3 demo of Devil May Cry 4) has also been distributing coupons for their official store. Use code NYANIMEFEST to get 15% off your purchase, which includes pre-orders for Lost Planet.

At $40 bucks this is a maybe. This will piss off a lot of Xbox fanboys who payed $60 for what they thought was an exclusive.
I love it.
L @ Dec 8th 2007 2:39PM
Yey it really would piss you off when you got to play the game over a year ago =P .... emmm don,t think so
Frank @ Dec 8th 2007 2:55PM
Yea, those stupid xbox owners only paid 60 bucks cause they thought it was exclusive *rolls eyes*
ryano @ Dec 8th 2007 8:17PM
i bought it for $30 bucks in April. sooo...i guess i waited 4 months for a good deal on a decent action game?
Andy @ Dec 8th 2007 1:16PM
Is 40 dollars a budget price?
B1gC72 @ Dec 8th 2007 6:06PM
apparently it is now, well with considering game prices now days. $20 off a $60 is at least a noteworthy deal. not as good as the last generations idea of a budget ($20 games were widely considered budget) but it's a start.
Jonathan @ Dec 8th 2007 1:19PM
Lost Planet is not without it's annoyances, but it's a great campaign and the online is a blast(and much needed, at the time and now, change of pace). It was worth $60 on 360 and will be worth $40 on PS3 for sure.
Dehshizknight @ Dec 8th 2007 1:58PM
The online is free on the PS3 version so that's even greater thought for consideration for those just now getting into the new-generation war.a
Daniel @ Dec 8th 2007 1:40PM
I don't think $40 is a terribly good price for Lost Planet. I have played it, and while it was a decent game, I don't think, for how late this game is coming to the PS3, that $40 is very good. $30, or maybe even $35, but I think they are expecting a bit too much from such an old, and just decent, game.
Just my two cents.
Joshua @ Dec 8th 2007 1:55PM
Give it a little while after release and it should drop that low, I say.
Carlos @ Dec 8th 2007 11:01PM
"$30, or maybe even $35..."
$5, really? it would make a difference? really? $5?
Joshua @ Dec 8th 2007 11:53PM
It makes more of a different than you can probably imagine.
HAAS599 @ Jan 21st 2008 4:18PM
i cant imagine a five dollar bill...not in my wildest dreams
Why mention the free online? Doesn't every Ps3 game has free online ?
Dehshizknight @ Dec 8th 2007 1:57PM
If I never played this game on the 360, should I give it a shot on the PS3? Or should I just stick with Unreal Tournament 3 or Killzone 2 (when it comes out)?
Daniel @ Dec 8th 2007 2:29PM
If I were you then I would wait. Lost Planet is a decent game, but I have a feeling that it won't be long before this game drops in price. I don't think it will sell terribly well, especially at the time it's going to release.
By waiting a few months and playing other high quality titles, you could probably score Lost Planet much cheaper.
L @ Dec 8th 2007 2:40PM
Yey pick it uo for sure....... Tho if you have a 360 the game is like $10-20 on ebay =P
B1gC72 @ Dec 8th 2007 6:17PM
i played it on 360 in Best Buy and it was an ok game. it didnt "wow" me in the 20 minutes i played it but it was a pretty decent game. i say it warrants a pick up but not right now. it's $40 now and i cant see it selling as well as Capcom obviously thinks it will so i wouldnt be surprised to see this at around $20 in a bargain bin in the not too distant future.
so rant synopsis: get UT3 and/or Killzone 2, hold off on this one til a games drought.
xrich @ Dec 8th 2007 2:25PM
meh...is anyone really interested in this game? a mediocre port of a year old game? why would anyone buy this when theres so many other AAA fps here/coming soon: COD4, Haze, UT3, Killzone2, Turok...
capcom, do you really expect ps3 users to get excited over this recycled game? if you want to get ps3 fans back, announce a quality ps3 exclusive. $20 off an old port is not interesting...
L @ Dec 8th 2007 3:48PM
emmm because its not a FPS?
dancingtosirens @ Dec 8th 2007 2:40PM
I dunno about you guys, but I really like Lost Planet.
It's got that old-school gaming feeling to it.
I dunno. Im not getting it for PS3 anyways though, I have it on PC.
But I do like the game a lot.
Id say more people should give it a chance, despite the relatively weak story
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Dec 8th 2007 2:55PM
Hmm tries the demo on a 360 at bestbuy. I enjoyed it. But since I don't have a 360 this is good news. Might purchase this.
sicklesdawg @ Dec 8th 2007 5:48PM
$40 is the New $30!

Just dont let the guys who bought Earth Defense Force hear you :)
Tony @ Dec 9th 2007 3:26AM
Mhunter to Wii, no sign of a new Onimusha, DMC 4 multiplatform. Come on Capcom, start impressing me again. You were my fave developer back in the PS2 days.
Budman @ Dec 9th 2007 7:44AM
Call me stupid, but I plan to buy the game when it comes out. I'm doing this so that I can play the game that I've been dying to try for a while and also to make Capcom realize that there ARE people who own a PS3 that would like to buy this and all of their other games (more Viewtiful Joe, please!). To the Xbox 360 and PS3 fanboys that are carousing this site, please forgive my terrible grammar and also, no more of this stupid bickering. We all need to stick together and fight the injustices of the world. We need to do this for LOVE, JUSTICE, and COURAGE!!! ONWARD TO THE FUTURE!!!!
alienclays @ Dec 10th 2007 8:59AM
the ONLY reason lost planet and dead rising made huge sales 06 i nthe 360 is because there was a darth of good games availible that launch year. if this came out a year later on ps3 about may of this year, it might have made great sales again. but when this comes out nearly 2 years old, even at $40 this is obviously capcom just trying to make a quick buck from the japan market. no sir, the next two games i get from capcom will have the words "street" and "fighter" in them.
Plaid Ninja @ Dec 10th 2007 11:41AM
Its sad that $40 is considered budget. $20 - that's budget. $30 - that's marked down. But $40 is just less than the excessively high price point of $60. Not being stupidly expensive doesn't make something budget.
