PS3 owners know that playing
Assassin's Creed can be a frustrating experience. Ubisoft's much anticipated game suffered a long list of glitches on Sony's black box, which includes mid-load freezing, character movement glitches, and more. Over the weekend, it appears that Ubisoft silently released a 1.10 patch for the game. Whether or not this patch actually successfully addresses all the problems of the game are yet to be seen, but we're hoping this will lessen the frustration of wannabe assassins.
[Thanks,
Michael T.!]

Are you kidding? This has been out for about a week now.
You'll be happy to know though that it solves all the freezing problems I had and dare I say, makes loading time between zones marginally quicker.
Dru @ Dec 10th 2007 8:07PM
Believe it or not, but it just dropped in NA. I've been waiting for a week to get it! The d/l is fairly quick, a million times better than home, that's for sure.
Adam @ Dec 10th 2007 3:48PM
I've had this in Europe for a few weeks!
Tom @ Dec 10th 2007 3:49PM
This was released two and a half weeks ago... November 29th to be exact ;)
R5 @ Dec 10th 2007 7:38PM
Yes, this patch was available for awhile now in Europe, but us folks here in the USA have yet to receive the patch. I've been trying Assassin's Creed everyday wondering when Ubisoft would deliver the patch. Good to know it's finally available.
JodyAnthony (Good Eats Defense Force) @ Dec 10th 2007 4:44PM
i got notification about it on friday, downloaded and installed. i didnt have any freezes all weekend, and maybe it's just my imagination, but the framerate and loading times seem slightly better.
Trev @ Dec 10th 2007 7:23PM
I doubt its your imagination. I thought the same thing as soon as the game loaded (I wanted to check on exactly these things). Framerate has improved considerably and I swear the colors look better. I thought the drab colors were right for dusty cities in the first place, but I know people complained about it...
Now if only they could have done this the FIRST DAMN TIME.
DG @ Dec 10th 2007 5:01PM
A little late for me. I already beat it and put it up on ebay.
Andy @ Dec 10th 2007 5:24PM
Good stuff. I am getting this for Christmas so its good to here the issues were cleared up.
Heres a really good poll question for next week:
Would you rather have a game on time (or early) and have them patch up the glitches?
Would you rather have it delayed to fix the glitches?
Tim Parsons @ Dec 10th 2007 5:30PM
First the EU version has been out and week.
the NA(north American) 1.10 patch came out Thursday night.
For me I had no problems to start with,. and the patch did nothing but Improve!
Load times were cut in more then half, and the game has less screen tearing, and appears slightly but noticibly sharper.
and runs much smoother,. not that I thought it wasn't b4,. so needless to say i'm very Impressed
Tim Parsons @ Dec 10th 2007 5:31PM
I'd have to say depends on the game and my mood. in the case of this game I never had issues prior to the patch so i'm happy as is
comtar @ Dec 10th 2007 10:20PM
I've noticed myself since the patch it seems there seems to be more variety in crowd quotes and saving civilians, seemed like before I could count on one hand the amount of things people said, now it seems like I have a little more variety in what people will say, I've actually heard different things from people as I play... Maybe this is normal, maybe not, but I was 2/3 the way through the game before I got the patch... and I've noticed alot of improvements.
Also I don't know if this is because of the patch, but I noticed the load times were "longer", reason I why I say "longer" in quotes, is because for me... before the patch. The load times were so good and fast, the Animus computer wouldn't finish it's hint between areas or if I died. It'd be like... "To avoid guards, be sure to use the..." and then I'd be in game... now the game seems to finish it's quote before loading the area. I don't mind this at all though, learned some things from the complete hints.

the problem was fixed when i turned off 720p and only 1080i.

Will go away?

what the hell is that man? I've never seen that on my one and I play it religiously (ah the irony).

I have a 60GB PS3 from launch and have been folding@home quite a bit (since early back then there wasn’t much to play). I’m starting to notice these anomalies (to a smaller extent) on another title (Ratchet n Clank). Resistance is still fine, even the Uncharted demo is fine. I also got a new copy of Assassin's Creed and updated to 1.10 but same issue.
Could certain newer game engines be using the SPEs in a more robust way?
Could folding@home (even in a cool well ventilated area) cause partial SPE failure?
What you are looking at in that image from the Assassin's Creed screen shot (have 10 other shots) is character tearing/stretching when moving or STANDING STILL! It seems to get progressively worse as game play continues (again this doesn’t occur on the uncharted demo at all).
I need to try the title on another PS3 preferably a “day 1 60GB version”. Question: Anyone out there playing Assassin's Creed “issue free” on a day 1 60GB PS3 that have also done a good amount of folding@home?
I am in the top 12 on this team:

works 100% for me, no more glitches
better late then never...

Mmhmm didn't get it until the weekend up here in Canada. Then again I was buried studying the hell out of exams.
AGH i hate exam weeks.
... still got like 2 hours of Assassin's Creed in =).
Blackacidstang @ Dec 10th 2007 10:45PM
The screen tearing is no ways near as bad as it was. Its still there but dont stick out like a sore thumb or as frequent. The framerates seemed improved as well.
Watcher @ Dec 11th 2007 12:16AM
The game just freezed on me after the patch. It didn't fix the problem entirely....
Broken Haiku @ Dec 11th 2007 3:45AM
Patch notes, we wants patchnotes. Okay, I do at least.
BlueFrog007 @ Dec 11th 2007 10:27AM
The patch also adds support for DualShock 3 controllers. I was very surprised when I took a hit in a fight and the controller rumbled.
Ray @ Dec 11th 2007 11:45AM
sweet. Even though I beat the game a couple weeks ago while it was still crashing on me; I'll go and play it again now since I loved it.
LW @ Dec 11th 2007 5:56PM
I actually fixed the game before the patch by switching from 1080i to 720p. As soon as I did that the crashes went away and it performed smoothly. The funny thing is the image at 720p actually looks identical to how it looked at 1080i, minus the screen tearing. I wonder if the main bug was with upscaling?
The framerate is still inconsistent, but you don't really notice it until you go somewhere where the framerate is optimal, and suddenly the camera pan is fantastic and feels like 60fps, like in the castle in Acre where you have to assassinate William.
Too bad the game has so many redundant tasks. Not sure why they couldn't have made it more like a medeival GTA. I thought that was what it was supposed to be like, but so many of the tasks aside from the main assassination missions are copy-and-pasted that it's clear they got either lazy or spent too much time focusing on game physics and graphics (which are outstanding by the way).
