PS3 sales surpass 360 in France, marginally

So, does this mean anything? Not really. If we assume that every single home surveyed only has one console, then only 20% of people in France play videogames. That's silly. But if you want us to spin it, there you go. PS3 has overtaken the 360 in France. Kind of. If you're curious about other gaming-related revelations in France, check out the translated results. We'll light the fireworks when 65% or more of homes tout their PS3 proudly, even alongside another console.

I think you mean "In a twist of events, the PS3 has overtaken the 360 in France in terms of hardware sales"
and not
"In a twist of events, the PS3 has overtaken France in terms of hardware sales"
Last time I checked there was no France branded hardware :P!!

Good catch, Hazard! I corrected the post. Thanks!
poprocker @ Dec 13th 2007 2:43PM
I like "Has overtaken France" better. lol

Looks like the Maginot line has failed again...
Sundar Popo @ Dec 14th 2007 4:08AM
Seems highly unlikly... The margin of error must be extremly and what are the demographics of these surveys? This says nothing as there is very little information.
morganfell @ Dec 13th 2007 11:50AM
Wow, it myst have really hurt the administrators here to have to admit the PS3 led the 360 in some fashion. To read the article it was like pulling wisdom teeth to get a positive comment out. But what can you expect from Joysliq.
Andrew Yoon @ Dec 13th 2007 11:54AM
Hey morgan, if the writers of PS3 Fanboy didn't like the PS3, we wouldn't be spending so much time writing for this site.
ExcaliburUnited007 @ Dec 13th 2007 12:06PM
@ morganfell
You just got owned...
Perhaps...just maybe the mods were actually being realistic and pointing out that this is not that big a deal. Especially since we're talking percentages here....
But hey if you want to hold onto the illusion that the 360 is being dominated by the ps3 in France go right ahead. I understand that you sony fanboys have to have something to do since the only worthwhile game you've got right now is UT3...
morganfell @ Dec 13th 2007 3:51PM
Why do a vast majority of people do a job? It pays money. Glad I am not in the boat where I am forced to do something I don't really like. Just because you do a thing doesn't necessarily mean you support said thing.
Do you like the PS3? Hmmmm let's take a piece of zen here and say you and your actions are one. As you act, so you
are. Maybe some latew night rereading of columns here will make things more apparent.
The name of this site is PS3 Fanboy in case you have forgotten. It doesn't mean you need to be a fanatical fanboy but this site should also not be Joystiq reskinned. By that I mean whether the news is bad, indifferent, or great for Sony there is always a snide, cynical after comment or some euphemism tossed into the mix that will attempt to sour even good news. It doesn't mean you need to spin news but neither do you have to do your level best to discount and slander news that is the slightest bit positive. France isn't the huge video game nation as is the US and 20% isn't that far off.
HektikLyfe @ Dec 13th 2007 11:52AM
I could see it already, "The PS3 overtakes the Wii, in a small neighborhood suburb of Zimbabwe! w00t!"
XD
farfisa @ Dec 13th 2007 12:48PM
I think you missed a couple lines--the 20% figure only takes the "next-gen" consoles into account.
Older consoles:
PS2 -- 1/3 !
PS1 -- 13 %
Gamecube -- 8 %
xBox -- 10 %
Portables:
DS -- 23 %
gameboy -- 20 %
PSP -- 11 %

here in France a lot of people "believe" that the PS3 is actually the best console and a lot of people have low confidence on the "American evil Microsoft".
Another thing is that the survey was conduct on a 1000 ... wich is kind of low to generalize to 60 millions people ...
Andir3.0 @ Dec 13th 2007 6:58PM
I "have low confidence on the 'American evil Microsoft'" and I live in America :p
I just don't like seeing them gain yet another market. Though I'm suspicious to the American numbers. Every day on the Radio and TV I see advertisements for some unknown company giving away free XBox360s. I've always wondered if they were "new" MS subsidiaries pushing out units to pump the numbers.
eddyk @ Dec 13th 2007 1:18PM
Correction : the survey was conducted on 1000 people only
NATO_Duke @ Dec 13th 2007 1:26PM
...oh neato, France, yeah, sweet...
Jakob H @ Dec 13th 2007 1:31PM
Sony and NFI (Nordisk Film Interactive) announced yesterday, that over 133k PS3 consoles was sold in Scandinavia since 23th March, which means that 0,6% (out of 20mio) of all in Sweden, Denmark and Norway have a PS3.
That's silly :D
evilJaze @ Dec 13th 2007 1:54PM
France's retribution for America's arrogance? Whatever works..
B1gC72 @ Dec 13th 2007 2:37PM
yea im not going to get too excited about this since France isnt really a gaming country per say. dont get me wrong, its still good and possibly a sign of things to come, its just not that big of an accomplishment in the grand scheme of things. sorry for being a wet blanket.
finelicker @ Dec 13th 2007 3:01PM
I'm not suprised they're not buying 360 like the one in the pic, its upside down.
gamefreak054 @ Dec 13th 2007 4:09PM
The legacy continues- ps3 keeps is now becoming more popular and is outselling consoles in different countries now.
I beleive that ps3 will become at the top of the sales chart because of the great game line up they have throughout at least a year. Xbox has an alright line up and wii i think only comes out with a good game every once awhile because of no 3rd party support so they wii will probably last for another 1-2 years before it becomes unpopular like the gamecube.
Trym @ Dec 13th 2007 4:25PM
This is not good news... The French are known for their bad taste in everything. (Don't worry, they won't understand this post. They don't speak any other language than their own)
BlackBeltJones @ Dec 13th 2007 10:16PM
I guess you gotta take victories where you can.
