Play all PS1 games on your PSP ... through Remote Play
Users have been reporting that Remote Play has been secretly updated in the last firmware revision. With PS3 2.10, PS3 owners that have a Remote Play-ready system will be able to play any PS1 game on their handheld. Yes, that includes both games downloaded from the Store and PS1 game discs. We've personally tried Wild Arms (the downloadable version) and confirmed that it will play via Remote Play. Our tipster tried playing Metal Gear Solid (on disc) and also found that it works. Happy news!
We find ourselves using Remote Play more and more with the inclusion of DivX and WMV playback. Now, PS1 support will increase our time spent with this feature.

i take it this doesnt apply for the 40GB console..
disguy @ Dec 18th 2007 12:13PM
why not? the 40GB can't play ps2 games. I'm pretty sure it can still play ps1 games.
Adrian @ Dec 18th 2007 12:12PM
Sweet! Funny thing is I found a mary kate and ashley olsen game under the couch the other day and I was wondering how I could play that without anyone knowing. No Joke.
Christian @ Dec 18th 2007 12:13PM
Yasir why would it not apply to the 40GB console? PS1 support is identical between all SKU's.
Personally I think it is nice to see Sony working on creating synergy effects between their products like this.
iFester @ Dec 18th 2007 12:15PM
Not a PSP owner to try that out, but it sounds cool. Is anyone else getting green lines when streaming WMV from their PC?
enigma137 @ Dec 18th 2007 12:34PM

I just dusted off Gran Turismo 2 and fired it up on remote play... Worked well... Now I just need to find my copy of GT1... would be nice to play the origional again. It was the game that got me to buy my Playstation back in the day...
I too am loving the PS3 to PSP utilities!!! It is really nice to see Sony put effort in to this...
ttate90303 @ Dec 18th 2007 12:50PM
Just tried it out with my old PS1 copy of Super Puzzle Fighter Turbo! Works great. Nice touch. Also noticed that when shutting down the PS3 from Remote, I no longer get an error - it just exits gracefully from the shutdown process. Well done Sony.
Trym @ Dec 18th 2007 12:55PM
Now I am REALLY tempted into getting a PSP...
Samuraidino @ Dec 18th 2007 12:55PM

Runs to friends house to PS1 games....stops and remembers he has one still left runs back to house.
mccomber @ Dec 18th 2007 1:07PM
So why isn't Sony letting everyone know about this? Stuff like this is huge from a "look what I can do" standpoint.
andyscout @ Dec 18th 2007 1:15PM
Sony doesn't seem to like to promote the things that matter. One of the reasons that I hear a lot of Sony-hatin' is because the other party is uneducated on subjects PS3 related.
If not for PS3 fanboy, I probably would not have heard about Folklore or Eye of Judgment. I wouldn't have even know about remote playing PS1 games, since I rarely play them anymore.
RazielDune @ Dec 18th 2007 3:25PM
omg i am at work playing FF7 on my PSP this is holy crap man.
RazielDune @ Dec 18th 2007 1:15PM
i am playing Final Fantasy 7 at work right now via remote play this is freaking AWESOME.
Joshb79 @ Dec 18th 2007 1:29PM
Is anyone else getting a good bit of lag in the controls? I just tried out Wipeout XL, Ridge Racer and Doom. This Lag makes these almost impossible to play.
T-P-M @ Dec 18th 2007 1:41PM
If you press Home I think it is it'll pull up a menu where you can select connection settings and ajust the quality. If you turn it down a bit it should realy help the lag.
thetez24 @ Dec 18th 2007 1:33PM
I just finished Final Fantasy VII (again), playing on my PSP via Remote Play from my PS3!!! This is effin' awesome!!

Hey fellas,
Got a question. After I updated my firmware last night I noticed that when I launch my the web browser my system does not recognize any button presses (or analog stick movements) on my controller except for the PS button. At first i figured it was a problem with my Dual Shock 3 so I turned off the system and restarted it using my Sixaxis instead. And it gave me the same problem. Can someone else try this out and see if it is a bug or just me. Thanx

Neil @ Dec 18th 2007 2:07PM
Great news, I kinda hope they'll do the same for PS2 games as well. :)
Nate @ Dec 18th 2007 2:37PM
God damn is that cool. I guess this means I'll have to finally break down and get a PSP. Poor me ;)
iFester @ Dec 18th 2007 2:45PM
I had thought about getting a PSP and may do so in the future given all the options it has over the competition. Right now there are some MS exclusives I really want to play and have to get a 360. Don't hate me for expanding my hardware options. ;)
Jakob @ Dec 18th 2007 2:52PM
It works perfectly, just a shame it doesn't fill the screen out.
I got a PSP yesterday, and Remote Play is one of the coolest feature ever. I can't wait to they launch PlayTV.
When do you think we can play ALL PS2/PS3 games through Remote Play?
ultrasur1 @ Dec 18th 2007 3:21PM
i commented on pspfanboy.com, but this might contribute to this thread as well:
after testing this out myself, out of the bunch of ps1 titles that i've tested so far (wipepout 3, metal gear solid, crash team racing, tekken 3, tony haw's pro skater) they all are able to be played on my psp using remote play. the controls may lag a bit depending on the game and/or connection, but they all work. not too bad of a perk for those of us with both systems. it's a great feature.
Joshb79 @ Dec 18th 2007 3:39PM
i dont know guys, maybe its just my wireless network in my home but the control lag is so bad even after changing the settings I really cant play anything. Is anyone else having this issue or could it just be my connection?
Neil @ Dec 18th 2007 5:00PM
I dont think it would be good for any game that needs perfect timing, I think this is best for Final Fantasy VII type games, you know turn based games. Something like Gran Turismo I cant see how this would be good for.
Marco Cano Jr @ Dec 18th 2007 4:06PM
Has anybody tried PS2 games? I doubt it but you never know.
Akamaru @ Dec 18th 2007 4:18PM
It would also help to post this on Joystiq
*pokes Andrew in the ribs*
Since this info would be good for people who don't already have a PS3 and PSP.
Andrew Yoon @ Dec 18th 2007 4:18PM
Ouch my ribs. It's up:

pcgamer11 @ Dec 18th 2007 5:33PM
hmm, now to find some PS1 games somewhere...
realist @ Dec 18th 2007 9:21PM
The PSP can already play all PS1 games, natively, without the use of a PS3. Just make sure you have a custom firmware installed, rip the disc and it plays beautifully.
Here's a year-old article from your sister site that explains how to do it: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/25/hack-play-ripped-ps1-games-on-psp/
MGSteve @ Dec 19th 2007 5:17AM
Maybe, but at least this way you don't have to have custom firmware and then have the problem of having non standard firmware AND have to spend the time ripping all the discs.
Although, that said, if you could copy game discs onto the PS3 and play them off the Hard Drive, that would be cool. Shame I can't see that happening though somehow!
Although that said #2, Sony can't be too bothered about piracy with PS1 games!
Sora57 @ Dec 19th 2007 12:22AM
Not sure this is new, but after the update I find I can background download while playing PS1 games through remote play via internet and via private network (PS2 games did not work on remote play, BTW). Before, I think background downloading paused while the PS3 was in the middle of a game playing off a disc. Also download continues while Folding through remote play as well. Internet Radio on the PSP with that system's update also works nicely. SONY FTW!
ToBiAS @ Dec 19th 2007 9:44AM
When i try to start a ps1 game from the psp the connection gets terminated, are there anyone who knows whats wrong?
