PS3 owners want HD porn - Digital Playground delivers
If there is one thing that PlayStation 3 owners like even more than games -- it's porn. Okay, well maybe not *all* owners, but enough to convince the formerly HD-DVD exclusive porno company Digital Playground that they should be releasing their titles on Blu-ray as well, starting with the big budget smash hit, Pirates. As DP founder Joone (yes he has a one word name, evidently he doesn't want his mommy to know what he does) explained, "A lot of people were e-mailing that bought a PlayStation 3 and they were basically saying, 'When are you guys going to release Blu-ray?'"While the news of naughty films on Blu-ray isn't exactly breaking news, it is interesting for a number of reasons. First off, Joone is the fellow that oh-so-long-ago said that Sony was blocking them from releasing their 'adult entertainment' movies on Blu-ray. Evidently, this isn't the case any more as Joone has changed his tone and said the real problem originally was the price of producing Blu-ray movies (which is quite a bit higher than HD-DVD movies).
The other thing that is interesting is that this is the first time that we have heard of the PlayStation 3 explicitly causing such an increased demand for HD movies that a studio changes its exclusivity stance in the HD format wars. For a long time, the HD-DVD camp has said that PlayStation 3 owners don't buy movies. Well if porn is any indicator, looks like PlayStation 3 owners luuuv their high-def movies -- as long as there are naked people in them at least.

Sony never had the power, and never will, to 'block' anyone from releasing anything on Blu-ray.
Why? BECAUSE ITS NOT A PROPRIETARY SONY FORMAT. It's a format created by a group of companies- one of which happens to be Sony.
Everyone in the Blu-Ray group would have to vote yay or nay or whatever on the issue. Sony is just the only one making fuss because they're applying the same sentiment toward pornography as they are UMD porn, AO rated games on their systems, and the like. Sony just eventually gave up the whining and realized that this is one of the drawbacks to not having a proprietary system like they're used to.
Either way, this is just another reminder to all the idiots still calling Blu-ray a proprietary Sony format, THAT IT IS NEITHER.

yeah it pisses me off so bad to read on the internet that sonys format this that sonys format that... its clearly not like that. but oh well. bloggers dont seem to need an educationg on anything to do their job. take a look at rob enderle and his blu ray sucks things. not like he makes any sence but if its bashing sony, wish is so popular these days, then your telling the truth. sick of this nonsence fanatism man...
Jay @ Dec 21st 2007 7:23PM
I never tire of reminding the Sony haters that more manufacturers developed the "proprietary" (sic) BD format than did the HD-DVD format. But, alas, it is one of those things some people conveniently forget immediately after being told.
Technological revisionism is alive and well (the UK press praising Apple for "introducing" video to PMPs in the form of the video iPod is my favourite example).
secret @ Dec 21st 2007 11:11PM
Ahem...Joone would like you mention that he saw your email requesting this movie to go onto bluray...lol

Which ever format wins over the porn industry will win the format war...confirmed.
mccomber @ Dec 21st 2007 2:32AM
Pretty sure it's just going to be a coincidence this time though. I've bought a lot of movies on BluRay, but porn won't be part of my collection.
I mean, hell, I've obviously got the internet.
Mr Khan @ Dec 21st 2007 5:07PM
Porn ALWAYS comes up whenever people build an argument for why HD-DVD will win
eh, porn is one arena where digital distribution is already predominant
ymmv @ Dec 21st 2007 2:12AM
Sony wasn't blocking porn from appearing on Blu-Ray discs, they just didn't want to have *their own* pressing plants produce any X-rated material for the adult industry.

who will buy this for this price tag of 54.95 https://store.digitalplayground.com/dp/newproductdetail.php?pid=967
certainly not me seeing as i have already downloaded this movie anyway .
Popfrogs @ Dec 21st 2007 9:20AM
Porn in HD? No thanks. Porn looks pretty nasty in DVD definition as it is. Chicks looked way hotter on VHS when you couldn't see butt pimples, warts, etc.
Tru-blu @ Dec 21st 2007 10:10AM
It takes me back 30 years or so ago with the first home video format war. The adult industry played a part in that war. Sony's beta format, although the superior format of the two, lost out to vhs. Big money coming from the adult industry along with millions of customers and fans.
It's almost like deja vu again with the new format war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Difference is the adult industry will be producing movies on Sony's format now. Good deal.
DirtnSky @ Dec 21st 2007 10:11AM
True to all mentions above:
Porn looked good on 16mm and VHS! With DvD and now the HD formats comes all the "Reality" of boob jobs, blisters, HD nethers and all the nasty Highly detailed liquids spilling all over the place. There will come a time when the porn boys start using some of those computers to "CG" out all them blemishes, but that will be a while. I'm thinking I'll have to look for more porn filmed from the other side of the room - NO CLOSE UPS - please!
Of course, if your are a Crazed collector of all that jizzum. A Real up close look of the crotch in HD might be their new flavor... Now I need to bleach my keyboard and hand for even going this far.
Eddie @ Dec 21st 2007 11:17AM
Blu is most definitely Sony's format. They developed it, they are bankrolling it, it's their format. The BDA is merely the organization that oversees the operations, Sony receives the licensing revenue.
Oh, and also, you guys really don't want HD porn. Trust us.
Signed
HD-DVD owners

Thanks for that, I just puked a little.
Dehshizknight @ Dec 23rd 2007 1:37PM
Guys, I'm pretty sure these movies will have the least bit of editing. And, if the overuse of makeup doesn't make you puke, then the "imperfections" won't because its all covered by the overuse of makeup.
