Unreal Tournament 3 toolset coming soon; some content released tomorrow

We know a lot of you were disappointed to find out that, even though Epic had promised, mods were not made available for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament III on day one. Apparently they are still waiting on some paperwork from Sony and once that's in people will be able to export their mods for the PS3 version of the game. To tide us over until then, Epic has "cooked" some mods they've picked from the community themselves. The first piece, a map by the name of DM-Shrine, is available right now to play on your PS3.

As if that wasn't enough, Epic is releasing some more user-generated content for download from the modding community. A mutator, some new maps and even a new game type. This should easily keep us busy until modders can "cook" their own content - when that happens we advise that you hold onto something, because we'll be seeing a tidal wave of content being released for us.

Importing content is simply a matter of placing it onto the root directory of a memory stick or USB key, then importing it through the "My Content" section of the "Community" menu. Simple as that. The power of UTIII mods really becomes clear today and we can't wait to see what the modding community comes up with once the exporter is finally released.

Wow.....I had no idea Epic was going to be so fast with the content. When the truly amazing mods come out, you can believe more people will be seriously looking at buying a third console.

Some dick is going to ruin this for everybody by sneaking a virus into a map pack, or a new skin etc. Until then though, user mods are probably the biggest thing to happen to FPS gaming since they went online. Very excited to see what people can cook up

user made mods have been supported for years.
but not on consoles.
this is not a leap for "FPS" it is a leap for "console FPS"

Can't wait to play, I finally finished finals today and I'm tired but I'm probably gonna get upload that map before I go to bed.

Best 3rd party exclusive on the PS3 thus far. I really enjoy playing Warfare mode. I wonder what new modes will arrive.

you can also use an external HDD (that's how i transported mine over.

the map is really cool. it's tight and close; perfect for frantic deathmatching.

i can't wait until the ball really gets rolling on mods once the editor is released, and the uber-modders start releasing their work in the next few months.

If some don't know, check out ModDb.com for a list of UT3 mods currently being worked on. Some cool concepts for total conversions, like one that sounds strangely similar to Ico called Ego, and one called Warm Gun. Just makes you realize that when you bought UT3 you paid $60 for as many games as people want to make for it. Thats a shit-ton more games than is in the Orange. Make sure you go on there and ask the mod devs to cook them for PS3!
