First trailer for Tales of Vesperia
2008 may mark the entrance of more JRPG's into the PS3's library -- this trailer is the first for the newest Namco Bandai Tales game, given the name of Vesperia. Either their character designs are getting lazy, or many of these characters look familiar to us. Since we can't understand Japanese, we'd like to assume the game relates to previous games. Perhaps even Radiant Mythology. Still, it's a decent looking game and we'd love to see more RPGs hit. Unfortunately, Namco Bandai hasn't confirmed which system it's going to be on. Namco Bandai once hinted at a PS3 RPG -- could this be it? Check out this new trailer, and see some new images here.

That looks amazing to me. Bring on the (x)RPG's!

Graphics look hot, I'm a big fan of the cel-shaded stuff if you have enough polygons to make it look right.

I bet it'll be on both consoles. Thats fine, no point making an exclusive unless you need the PS3's power. Looks pretty cool.

I am a long time Namco Tales Project fan. Been playing those games for almost a decade now... and I thought Tales of the Abyss was a terrible game... but a lot of people disagreed with me. If you ask me, this game looks like a sequel/spin-off from Tales of the Abyss.
For several reasons:
* I hear the name "Yulia/Yulie" several times in the trailer... could just be the name of the main heroine of the game, but it could also be Yulia from TotA.
* The combat engine clearly follows the TotA combat engine with FOF.
* Character designs are strikingly similar. Though this doesn't really mean much since it uses the IDOLM@STER graphics engine and Namco has been getting lazy. So they probably just left the character designs the same because its cheaper.
* Uniforms for Malkuth guardsmen and generals are very noticable... could also be atributed to Namco's recent laziness.
* God-generals. Were those the god-generals?... could also be atributed to Namco's recent laziness.
* The Tower of Rem. Rem has always been the goddess of light in the Namco Tales Series; but there is rarely a tower dedicated to her... could also be atributed to Namco's recent laziness.
* Vesperia probably shares the etymology of Vesper; which is rooted from both the evening star (hence the logo for the game) and the sixth (of seven) canonical hour of prayer (or the evening song). Abyss was a lot about prayer and the seven fonic hymns.
So... sequel/spin-off? Or laziness from Namco?

This makes me think...I wonder what cel-shaded graphics will look like 5-10 years from now? I can't even imagine, but hopefully indistinguishable from anime, (or 2D animation in general), with very high production values.
