Survey asks if users are interested in monthly PSN subscription
Would you be interested in downloading unlimited content from the PLAYSTATION Store? Well, that's an option that's being suggested in a survey available at PlayStation Asia's website. A monthly subscription would give users unlimited downloads from the Store. Granted, American users haven't been introduced to much, but many Asian gamers are familiar with the Store's incredible breadth of PS1 classics. If reasonably priced, an unlimited subscription plan might be a pretty sweet deal. Would you want Sony to consider offering such a feature?

Seeing that PSN lacks PS1 games won't get me to get a subscription to download whatever I want. If Sony did offer a service like this then they would have to step it up and release more content which would be pretty slow seeing that we only get one update for the PC Playstation every other week. Sony would have to keep up the pace and release updates twice a week like Tuesday and Thursdays and have like three PS1 games and demos, etc.

Yes and no. Many of us older folk (18+) don't have the time to fully utilize an unlimited subscription. Plus, Sony would have to release a consistent amount of top of the line software to make the service worth while. I'm sure most of us agree that the American PS Store is mediocre at best - aside from Beats, of course.

I guess that's exactly why they haven't released such survey in the US?
and actually, it would be QUITE worth it, I mean, the quality of the service wouldn't change, the same movies, games, etc will be there if it stays in a pay per item or cahnges to monthly service, so a monthly service, despite the fact that it would most likely be a higher fee, will more likely be the best value

sounds like a plan to get people back onto the "official" firmware.
No thanks, say I

Ha, the PSN doesn't even have content worth a single month, so a subscription is, well, pointless. It actually doesn't even have anything worthwhile for me, currently. Thinking about getting B-Boy, but then again for > 20 EUR I might get a cheap copy in a shop anyways.

I say leave it the way it is. I think the freedom of the PSN is was makes it so great.
Noshino @ Jan 2nd 2008 10:41PM
actually, a monthly service, so long as you are able to use the items regardless of having an active account or not, offers much more freedom than a pay per item basis...
That is the only thing that I like about the Zune, its marketplace, still not enough to make me buy one =(

I agree, it would be a great option but they need to have an option for leaving it the way it is right now.

Once More PS1 or original games come along as well as movie and music I'd gladly pay up to $15 per month.
For this I would want unlimited use of games (tied to my single PSP is fine), subscription music in a PSP only format is fine, 4-5 movie 'rentals' per month.
I would also expect a 'discount' if I decided to permanently purchase a movie or music etc for being a subscriber.
A la carte should remain.

if reasonably priced and with a new abundance of good content, yes this would definitely be worthy of a monthly subscription. if they would update the store with a regular flow of original and PSOne games along with a myriad of movies and music then you could sign me up today.

if its a one time fee of 30 bucks for unlimited downloads... AND.. (and this is a big one) they open up the flood gates on the ps1 classics and all types of content.. including all the add ons for games.. then by all means SIGN ME UP!!!!

I like the a la carte system they have now. I hate monthly subscriptions with a passion.
Alien @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:42AM
If they release games at this rate , than I would pay less than 10$/month ... if they would update it regualrry , I could pay more ...
Trev @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:17AM
I think having it available would be good. I don't want to move to an account myself, I don't like subscriptions when I can avoid them, but as long as I can still buy individual items sans-account, I think they should implement it.
