Rumors have surfaced regarding Sega's upcoming PS3 exclusive title,
Yakuza 3. The game, whose prior two incarnations dealt with more modern-style gangster brawls, takes you back to the time when swords and skill were pretty accurate measures of your ability to earn respect. We'd love to know how it plays and that's where the rumor kicks in -- Sega may be releasing a demo on the Japanese PlayStation Store sometime this month. Sega hasn't said anything officially, but according to some random source over at
Gamefront, it's coming. We'll find out, we guess.

Tim Parsons @ Jan 2nd 2008 10:42PM

WTF iz dat about @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:31AM
shenmue.....nuff said
Carlton @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:59AM
It's only published by Sega. And they publish the Total War series. It doesn't get any better than that.
derickoleary @ Jan 2nd 2008 7:47PM
Hell, Id play that. Its already on my 'MUST GET NOW!! BELLY HURTS!! NEEEEEED' list. I can forego the english language for a while.

@george... they havent? What about Yakuza 1 and 2? What about Virtua Fighter 5? Chu Chu Rocket? NiGHTS?
Yes, anything related to SONIC, sucks. But Sega does a lot more than just Sonic.
gjamesl @ Jan 2nd 2008 11:15PM
Ok i agree vitua fighter 5 was good but chu chu rocket and nights were made a long time ago. sega had good games in the era of genesis/saturn and early dreamcast games but since they stopped making hardware they have not made one game that is considered great except virtua fighter 5. i just think they didnt get better at making games and other companies have gotten better. games like call of duty 4, uncharted are way above anything sega ever did and its ashame because sega used to be one of my favorite developers.

i've come to realize SEGA is an acquired taste.
do you eat snails and frog legs? i sure as hell don't...
oh, and when will Yakuza 2 get a demo?
that'd be strange if Yakuza 3 came out before a demo of 2...

Raise hands in air in unison:
BANZAI! ...... BANZAI! ...... BANZAI!
topflight1 @ Jan 3rd 2008 12:10AM
I know this is off topic but wasn't call of duty 4 supposed to have a patch and new maps by the end of December? The game is great, but damn, trying to get in a game and then trying to get your friends in a game is a pain in the ass!
Andy @ Jan 3rd 2008 12:59AM
Supposidly the first two games cost around 20 million each to make (USD) so with the rising costs of games this one could be around 30 million. We could be in for a treat.
Has anyone else noticed that downloads from your non-local store have slowed down considerably? I used to get about the same speed no matter which store I used (I have 4 psn's, hehe) but lately I only get the top notch speeds at the north american store.
WTF iz dat about @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:31AM
you have four? I have usa, japan, and the Uk what is the fourth and does this mysterious fourth have anything special to it?
Carlton @ Jan 3rd 2008 8:05AM
I doubt very much they cost anywhere near that amount. That would make them some of the most expensive games on the PS2, and the second one wasn't even released outside Japan.
xrich @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:29AM
@wtf iz dat about
there is an asia/hong kong store that is different from japan. however, that store has very little content and there is nothing there that you cant find elsewhere
Jamesology @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:32AM
What? There was a second Yakuza? I played the first and really liked it but I didn't know there was a second. Was it any good?
Metoo @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:51AM
The fourth is the Hong Kong store, which can be viewed in English. It gets some of the same content as the Jp store, but not much.

The second Yakuza game, Ryu Ga Gotoku 2, was excellent. It did indeed take place one year after the first game, and it had a whole slew of tweaks that improved it upon the original. The fighting system allowed you to tackle enemies who weren't facing you, and sort of swing your punch to hit someone who had moved. You could do team up moves with friendly partners during battles. Another small fix that made a big difference was that the loading times were greatly reduced. Plus, a brand new city to explore, Osaka! I really recommend Ryu Ga Gotoku 2.
So of course, I can't wait for Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan. I hope this rumour is true, I also saw it on NeoGAF. I think it started on a Japanese retail blog, so there is a good chance. The television adverts have already started in Japan, although the game won't be released for another three months.
Oh and Ryu 2 is coming to America as Yakuza 2, Sega announced it at the Tokyo Game Show last year, so never fear! Rumour has it that the game does not have any voice overs and will use the original Japanese track with subtitles, which would certainly save costs.

This is weird, everyone is hyped about the third Yakuza game, but I want number two first!! I've read that it takes places one year after the first one. They didn't published Yakuza 2 outside Japan because nobody cared about the first one, and now everyone is hyped about the third one, and they are probably gonna release it outside Japan. If no one cared about the first one, why are you all so hyped about the third one?
