Rumor: Development on Uncharted 2 has been approved

We're glad the game will get a second entry, as there are many exciting unexplored ruins for Nate and crew to seek out and fight pirates in. Or ninjas, depending on the locale. Should they seek the lost civilization of Mu for some reason, they'll end up fighting some pirates off the coast of Japan, who could also be ninjas. It's anyone's guess. If Nate seeks Atlantis, he'll fight ... mermen? Aliens? Let us hear your wacky ideas for Nate's second adventure!

I'm hoping for more treasure hunting and less gunplay.
Lars @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:48PM
Same here. I loved the game because of the progressive story, treasure hunting, fun characters, climbing/platforming, awesome graphics, etc. But I was a little annoyed at the abundance of gunplay. Towards the end it felt like I was playing Doom.

Makes me sad my french is so rusty after all these years :( But what you said sounds about right.
Hurray! I haven't played the first one yet, just the demo, but I highly anticipate it :D
elquequiere @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:48PM
noo, the mix of gunplay and treasure hunting is perfect, too much treasure hunting and the game becomes another tomb rider...
disguy @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:57PM
far from a perfect balance.
I felt that it was 70-30
jango fett @ Jan 4th 2008 2:14AM

He goes in search of more quality games for the PS3.
Really though, I like my PS3 - just was too good a chance to make a lame joke :D
NACHO @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:58PM
I agree with more treasure hunting. The aiming wasn't my favorite, but some of the puzzles (the ones that didn't have the answers in the journal) were very good and helped move the story along. Great game, glad they're making a sequel seeing as i heard it didn't sell as much as they'd hoped (120,000 in 10 days?).
Laurens Holst @ Jan 6th 2008 3:00PM
I tried to buy it here (Europe, the Netherlands), and it is sold out everywhere. Some kind of supply problem or something, they say. Don’t know whether that is related, but it might explain the low sales.
I hope they get it fixed soon! I wanna buy :).

Tracking down the Illuminati, they have awesome treasure
Tabari Thomas @ Jan 4th 2008 12:51AM
Nate should be looking for the metal beard of the Egyptian Pharaoh, Although her name escapes me it would be awesome to see.
drdre74 @ Jan 4th 2008 9:12AM
Only thing I would like is for the Puzzles to be a little more complex. The ones in the game were a given. The book told you how to figure everything out. Besides that I'm game for anything they can throw at us.

He'll search for love....cause isn't love the greatest treasure of them all?

Well Nacho worldwide its pushing 600k. So who knows may hit platinum status in a month or two
Randy Kayfish @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:30PM
I think it should be the lost scientific and astrological findings of the Mayan people. There are a few good areas to search and the people were fascinating. A little too much gun play in the first or was it that I'm a lousy shot. Not sure. :)
Stoffinator @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:46PM
I hope they improve the game play. I was a little disappointed with the pace of Uncharted. Fight this group, move on and do a little puzzle, then fight another group of bad guys. I also didn't like the "monsters" at the end of the game, took me right out of the game.

I don't think the gunplay should be toned down one bit. It was fun and exciting and I don't want another tomb raider. I think it was a good balance especially if they add some sweet multiplayer and co-op especially. PS3 needs more good shooters like this, especially to compete with the likes of Gears of War.
TXCrowe @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:52PM
The supernatural aspect towards the end fit perfectly.
Ever seen Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Same Deal.
watcher @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:56PM
I didn't have any issues with the amount of gunplay. If ND thinks about cutting back on the gunplay then they need to compensate it for something else like another playable character (Elena!)
slim_on @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:57PM
I want even more gunplay then the first. It was the best part of the game after the story.
Colin McGinn @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:16PM
I absolutely loved the game. I am almost achievement complete now and can't get enough. So many extras, that it keeps me coming back and enjoying it even more. Some of the rewards are truly special (extra character models). The pace was great. It kept me so enthralled the first time that on the next times through, I get to do all of the treasure hunting (60 treasure, some of which are references to J&D and Crash) and site seeing.
I liked the combat (shooting takes some practice). If you took the time to really learn the subtle nuances of the controls, you will find that the combat is extremely rich. Fairly smart enemies as well. Varying up you combat techniques makes the game the most fun. Hiding around cover, turn, shoot, reload .... that would get old. Move around. Fill a dude with a few holes then give him a sock to take him out. Make it exciting by moving around a bit. The excellent animation system makes movement a beauty to observe.
I didn't mind the sci-fi element in the story. I felt that it hit perfectly with the tone of the game. The mythos and ancient ruins are perfect fits for something like that. Well executed. Each section of the game felt completely unique and kept it very fresh. Awesome acting and story. I can hardly wait for another.
Popfrogs @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:20PM
Needs alot more puzzles and treasure hunting. Finding treasure by watching every level for a sparkle was a pain in the neck. You should be rewarded by solving puzzles and use the treasure to buy new weapons if they're going to be so gun-heavy in the next one. Sorta like RE4 did.
Kinketsu @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:22PM
I thought the first game was excellent so I'd be delighted if they made another game. It seems like Atlantis would make sense given their great water technology and so on, but I'm not sure that's the best idea. Plus Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis already did it well enough for me.
How about China? Lots of interesting areas to climb and pirates etc to shoot, plus the chance of maybe fighting some of those hopping Chinese vampires or something. South America would be a lot of jungles again, and I agree they should switch things up a little in that regard. I don't mind the gameplay at all, but while the game should be set in another 'uncharted' area, it needn't be in the same style of one. Mayans etc rings too close to the original game, and also Tomb Raider Underworld and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, both coming out this year.
So basically, I'm not for the Mayans or a jungle, but almost anywhere else sounds great to me. I do think they should stick to one location though, and not go globe-trotting like Lara Croft. Uncharted seemed very focused in that way, it that it took place only over two very similar islands.
Adam @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:30PM
I would like more exploring and platforming. Less gun play. I would like gun-play to be tacked on, no where near as important as the exploring. I would not mind a bit of an open world in places, so some cities for you to explore or something. I didn't like the sci-fit bit because I found it a bit scary in the bunker and I found the second half of the game a bit too dark, so I want a more lively game the whole way through.
doc j @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:34PM
Oh man, I love getting to play developer. It's even more rewarding than Fantasy Sports.
I loved the supernatural twist of the first game, the zombie-like spanish was the best horror level I've played in a game since maybe RE4. I know someone up there mentioned Mayan civilization, but I think that would be a bad idea because it would feel too similar to the first game. I was originally going to say an Asian location would feel cool, but what about a Sub-Saharan Africa location (re: not Egypt)? It might be refreshing to search imaginary remains of the Nok Civilization or something like that.
I would increase the length of the game by a couple of hours. Nothing marathon-y just another hour or two of solid gameplay would be appreciated. You could pretty easily add that by sticking in a few lengthy puzzles to give a variety to gameplay (though, personally, I liked the balance of the first one... I thought the puzzles felt gimped, and were too easily solved by a gimmick - like shooting the exploding barrel)
Well, I have to go caucus now so I gotta cut this trip to imagination land a little short. But this should give me something to think about during the Platforms session, at least :)
colinbell @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:49PM
I just want more of everything in Uncharted 2 - more exploring, more platforming, more textures and water effects, more islands AND more gun play. Cant have enough of Uncharted, wish I could play a new game like this every month.

Don @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:54PM
I loved the game but I think the second one should have harder puzzles. I also think that they should incorporate some of the hidden treasures as compensation for figuring out these puzzles. They could even give some of the treasures you find more meaning than what they had in the first one (give fictional descriptions of them if you click on them in your inventory) and some can even be used to open up certain doors or solve clever riddles.
freker @ Jan 3rd 2008 8:49PM
Uncharted 2 should be completely different and set in one of the ice caps as a change of scenery, the plot could maybe have something to do with a missing (modern day) explorer (Maybe one of Nathan's Friends) A new game mechanic of keeping warm could be implemented as a meter and shreds of thermal clothing being shot out would be an interesting concept and amazing feat of animation (like wet clothes), a minigame of shaking the sixaxis could be used to crawl out of almost zero degree water pools. Climbing through breaking caverns and jumping iceberg/cliff ledge to ledge would be similar as in the original.
Instead of drawing from the Indiana Jones style storytelling, this could draw inspiration like from 'The Thing' and the movie adaption of the graphic novel 'Virus', perhaps. ('Eldorado' could be the cause of the whole situation, again.) And finally treasure could just be antiques of previous explorers or ships unfortunate enough to be caught in the tight water canals.
I haven't seen ND do a snowy environment since Jak and Daxter, lol (And a Track in Jak X, okay?) I'm sure they're bursting to do it again...But hey, if thats similar to the plot, quote me later on in life!
Nacho @ Jan 4th 2008 12:23AM
I am playing it right now and I think its awesome. The aiming is the only thing I have any negative to say about it.
Even my wife who doesn't like games told me the other night, if she would to pick a game to play she would get into this one.
Blew me away when she said this (she really doesn't care for games)
Can't wait how the story on the second on is going to continue.
DEMAN @ Jan 4th 2008 7:45AM
YES! YES! YES! A great game. Truly amazing I predict he is going inside one of the zombies and will be fighting blood cells
Brandon @ Jan 4th 2008 12:15PM
He should search the ruins of Brittney Spears' life for some hope that her kids won't be as screwed up as they are destined to be.
Benjy @ Jan 7th 2008 6:34AM
I got as giddy playing this game as I did when I heard that they were bringing Karen Allen back as Marion Ravenwood in the new Indiana Jones movie!!!!! (AWESOME!)
I was glued to my TV for a week after I opened "Uncharted" on Christmas day. Far and away, one of the best games I have ever played. Bravo, Naughty Dog! You are the first company to unlock the truly amazing potential of the PS3. I really got into everything about this game from gameplay to the story to even the amazing music score (I hope they keep the same "Title Theme" for Uncharted 2)! This was truly a cinematic gameplay experience. When it ended, I wanted it to go on!
After seeing all the amazing "Behind the Scenes" clips and all that went into this, I really do hope this becomes a franchise series, and that we see the team of Nate, Elena, and Sully for years to come.
The Fifth @ Jan 4th 2008 4:25PM
Maybe it was just the fact that I played the game all in one "day" and was finishing up at 4am, but i thought the gunplay at the end was a bit too tedious. A bit harder puzzles/platforming would be nice as well as a couple riddles to figure out for extras. I'm all for a change of scenery too.
Overall though, I loved the first one and really can't wait for the next. The storyline was incredible.
