Sure, baseball is under fire in America currently due to some kind of "performance enhancer" or whatever, but that doesn't mean we can't look forward to creating our own superhero of a sportsman in MLB '08: The Show. We've got two trailers for you today and since we don't have sports games featured here that often -- you're welcome. Enjoy the second one after the jump!
Sony's MLB franchise has the best well...franchise mode out there. You get to do all the usual stuff like trade players and sign free agents, but you get to manage income, stadium upgrades and more.
If you haven't played a baseball game in a while I would recommend MLB 07 or if your patient MLB 08.
And the gameplay kicks MLB 2K's ass.
Thanks for the videos. (why weren't these in the PSN update, with only one other video I am surprised)
They already have video with Torii Hunter on the Angels and Miguel Cabrera on the Tigers. Good to see it's up to date.
I absolutely can't wait for this game. The only sport title that is going to be a guaranteed purchase for me at least. Still have to see how Madden will turn out this year.
I loved MLB 07, especially being able to play your player specifically and not have to worry about the others in The Show mode. Reminded me of Ultimate Baseball Online. ;)
Can't wait for 08! I just got 07, so I will definitely at least rent this.
Torii Hunter is on the Angels. I haven't read anything about the twins (my fav team) in months. Who'd they get in return or was his contract up?
This is why it sucks to cheer for a low budget team. I guess we can do without Hunter. We still got Liriano, Santana, Mauer, Nathan and Morneau. We do still have those players right? Right?
They'd be giving up a lot more than just cold hard cash. They'd be giving up two TOP prospects, Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera and probably one or two Double-AA'ers. The cash part doesn't come in until they actually get the right to renegotiate Santanas contract and then it'll cost them 6-years at around 180-200 million.
As a Yankee fan that's a trade I oppose, Santana is good but not worth the price tag. Then again, if we don't get him then the Redsox probably will, in which case the East is a wrap for the next few years.
His contract was up. The Angels signed him for a ridiculous amount of money considering they have Gary Matthews Jr. already. I guess they plan on DH'ing Vlad and Garrett Anderson much more this year. But they did trade for Delmon Young the RF for the Devil Rays last year by giving up Matt Garza. I think he is going to be a beast. He's already great defensively, and had 93 RBI's last year. And he's only 22!
If the Twins take the Yankees "final offer" for Santana that doesn't include Hughes, Cabrera, or Kennedy, I'll hate the twins forever.
Wow, serious visual upgrade this year... and honestly that's all I really wanted improved from last years game. MLB07 was far and away the best playing baseball game last year, but boy was it ugly. I owned both 2K7 and MLB07 and sometimes found myself playing against my friends last year with 2K7 simply because it was the better looking of the two, this was around the time we didn't have much to play and catching flak for the games not looking great wasn't something I wanted to put up with.
Looks awesome. so far the Playstation 3 has got me playing games I wouldnt have delved into before and this looks like another game Im going to enjoy... can't wait
YES i can't wait for this game my love for baseball has been re kindled in the last few years i hope my D-Backs don't fall apart this year they made some big moves. . . . . if i don't like what there doing i'll just put the team back the way i liked it last year
The agreement prevents third-party developers (i.e. those that would make multi-platform titles) from making MLB games. That's why Sony can make their game and EA cannot.
EA doesn't have the MLB licence anymore, i think they lost it when they took the NFL licence exclusively, they tried to make college baseball games instead, i don't know how thats working out for them.
MLB08 is one of the most underrated sports series out there. they have been doing "superstar" mode for years (you are welcome EA). Like most of you..i can NOT wait for this. Easily the best franchise mode out there (tho NBA 2k8s is pretty good).
As a fan of probably the most perfect baseball video game to date, EA's MVP Baseball 05 for the PS2, I prefer the the much closer playing (and better looking) 2K baseball games to the Show.
The whole Guess-a-pitch thing rubs me completely the wrong way and spoils games using that kind of batting system for me. Also, the creation/editing capabilities of 2K is vastly better than the Show, leading to a better community of roster editors, and less reliance on rarely correct "official" roster downloads.
2K7 may still be a bit buggy, even after the patch, but IMO it's still the closest to the real thing for PS3 users.

I always thought 2k Sports owned the rights to the MLB Licensing in Video Games. That's why EAs MVP stopped.

I don't know why Sony can have a baseball game and EA can not.

While watching these videos with Disturbed cranked, I realized this would be the perfect game for custom soundtracks!
