Keyboard attachment announced at CES
NOTE: Image is just a mock-up. This is not the real PSP keyboard. [Image source]
Do you hate the virtual keyboard the PSP has? Well, looks like a solution is coming. An official first-party keyboard attachment is in the works. The problem? It won't be due until next year, according to GameSpot. "We're looking at several designs, but can't tell you anything more specific," a rep said.
[Thanks, Joe!]

The top heavy weight of the psp while holding the keyboard will probably make it uncomfortable.

That's true, but like it said, it's only a mockup. I do like how it looks like it would double as a screen protector.
Tristan @ Jan 8th 2008 11:34AM
I dont see how the keyboard could possible look.

Great! But NEXT year? *checks calendar* --sigh. Well, at least it's happening. With the lighter weight of the PSP-2000, I doubt balance will be an issue.
I figured Sony might come back to this when/if the Mylo fell off the radar... And here we are. Clamshell keyboard that unfolds *and* protects the display FTW!

If Sony were to make a AIM or MSN Messenger service in a future firmware update I could see the keyboard coming in use - until that day, I'll stick with my trusty built-in PSP keyboard.

You don't have to be chatting to need a keyboard. Just going from site to site is a royal pain in the ass on the PSP. The 'virtual keyboard' is an unholy bastard. I'd buy it just for typing in URLs.
James @ Jan 8th 2008 12:19PM
I think I'll skip on the keyboard thanks.
How about a mini adjustable stand with a wireless keyboard? That'd be a bit better to use than a keyboard dropping off the bottom of the system.

One more accessory to add to the big bulky briefcase of PSP add ons.... dam...
pixelator @ Jan 9th 2008 12:30AM
What are you, challenged? This is something people have been begging for for the past 3 YEARS. A keyboard completes the PSP internet/online functionality suite extremely well. How do YOU know how bulky it is?
If you don't want it, don't buy it. Having the OPTION is a GOOD thing, not a BAD thing. You don't have to buy ALL the 'bulky' accessories, ya lummox.
...Goddamned DS trolls.
Alien @ Jan 8th 2008 12:54PM
Finally ... it only took 5 years for it to happen :P

I think I'll wait till the real PSP2 comes out. Happy with the Phatty. If these new features and apps won't work on my Phatty then what's to stop Sony from releasing the PsP Super-Slim and ignoring PSP Slim owners?
Neil @ Jan 8th 2008 1:37PM
I've wanted to a see keyboard and MSN messenger on the PSP from day one, so this a good start, but the mock looks like it would be really hard to type on since it would be very top heavy.
Errol @ Jan 8th 2008 2:10PM
If this is going to be another PSP-2000 exclusive, I'll kill the man responsible for it! (Not litterely)
MuslimConvert @ Jan 8th 2008 2:17PM
what items exactly are psp2000 exclusive besides skype? why do people keep whining about psp1000 owners being left out?
emaxximus @ Jan 8th 2008 3:22PM
Gee whizz, mabey VIDEO OUT? the only thing worse than whiners are the people who whine about the whiners. haha
APVangeliLMS @ Jan 8th 2008 4:00PM
well, heres a list,
tv out
better loading times
more xmb colors
better speaker placement
a tv tuner (4dajaps)
more casing colors
slimmer design
lighter design
most probably better internet cache (idk)
no more useless ir port(what were they thinking for it in the first place)
theres probably more but im too lazy to check.
B1gC72 @ Jan 8th 2008 4:19PM
ive gotten used to and pretty efficient with the phone entry one they have now. too little, too late IMHO. would only be useful if they had memo and calender programs on the PSP as well (but then again, my PDA does that just fine)
BryanS @ Jan 8th 2008 4:53PM
my first reaction upon seeing this headline was "F*** YES!!!" until I read "not til next year". This is good news, but holy crap will it test my patience.
MrDaBucket @ Jan 8th 2008 6:44PM
It's called a PROTOTYPE.That probably is NOT the keyboard, seeing as it's nearly ergonomically impossible to use.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jan 8th 2008 8:06PM
Like I said on Joystiq:
IT'S ABOUT F**KING TIME.
