Nyko will make Rock Band, GH III compatible guitar
Just weeks ago, it felt as if the stalemate between Activision and Harmonix would never end. Both companies blamed the other for the lack of compatibility between guitar peripherals for Rock Band and Guitar Hero III. Thankfully, Nyko has come to save the day as it recently announced that it would develop a guitar that's compatible with both games.Coming in March, Nyko will make available the Front Man wireless guitar. The peripheral will feature a dongle with a switch that must be set for whichever game a budding guitarist is currently playing at the time. The guitar appears to have all the features that are present in the controllers offered by Activision and Harmonix but also promises up to 80 hours of continuous play time using three AA batteries.
We're pretty sure both companies will settle this silly argument at some point in the future, but it sure feels good to know a true solution is only weeks away.

Nice way to jump in on the controller shortage. If only they released this two months ago, I would definitely have bought one.

Yeah, I agree with Laurens... Now I might as well pick up an extra Strat when they come out the first week of Feb. I would've sacrificed the lower fret buttons so I could have a bass player, but too late, Nyko. I'm terrified of MadCatz making the next generation of peripherals, though!

Now if only they could make one that works with GH1 and 2 on the PS3 as well...
Organic_Shadow @ Jan 9th 2008 10:08AM
Yeah, but will the strum bar CLICK instead of feel like mush? If so, hopefully there's some kind of discount if I give them my craptastic RB guitar. POS...

With all the issues Harmonix is STILL having with their guitars, I'm surprised it has taken so long for a third party to get into the arena. That being said, I have no interest in in Nyko's offering if that's what they're going to look like. Can't someone just take the Rock Band Strat and put in a strum bar that doesn't break?
TCampbell76 @ Jan 9th 2008 10:30AM
Nyko statements should read, "From the people who brought you sh!t that voids your warranty."
Haiddasalami @ Jan 9th 2008 10:43AM
hmmm why Nyko, could Harmonix not make it themselves. i never trust anything from Nyko or MadCatz.
Jim Bob billy @ Jan 9th 2008 10:49AM
TCampbell76 .... hahahaha to true... Nyko 'You like your ps3? how bout if it was broken!' By the way, is this an english or american fan site? i've never been shore!

If they can make me believe that the guitar won't interfere with my WiFi I will buy GHIII again.
I had to return the damn thing cuz the guitar would not respond (it would connect and disconnect every other second).
I wish I could play GHIII :-(

So help me god if this controller doesn't work with the original Guitar Hero 1 and 2 on my PS3....
mayamayouidiot @ Jan 10th 2008 12:35AM
Sorry, according to Kotaku: "the Frontman does not make any of the Guitar Hero games for the PlayStation 2 playable on the PlayStation 3."
Also, it costs $60...not cool.

Here's the thing that gets me, even if the original Rock Band guitar was not defective (which they were), and even if they sent out replacements in a matter of days (as promised) instead of weeks (the reality), we'd still be limited on the PS3 to playing a 3-person game. According to an e-mail I got from EA a few days ago the release date for extra Rock Band Stratocasters is "later but as yet undetermined." EA actually told me to try looking on e-bay! Why do Xbox 360 people get the full Rock Band experience with teh GH guitars? Why did I pay full price for 3/4 of a game? What's up with this?
