Sony confirms LittleBigPlanet's planned September release
Sony has confirmed to CVG today that LittleBigPlanet is planned for a September release. Don't feel too down, though. We were supposed to be seeing a beta occuring before the end of 2007 and while there's no news on when that's coming, it should be during the first half of the year. Hopefully.
We're in two minds about this. Currently our philosophy is to assume any high profile game will get at least one delay before release. Just look at Metal Gear Solid 4. Does that mean we should expect LBP to land around Christmas (or, yikes, 2009?) or have the team now given themselves the time they need to get the game done by September? We're hoping for the latter. Bring on the beta!
More videos of the game, after the cut.

"We're in two minds about this. Currently our philosophy is to assume any high profile game will get at least one delay."
True words of wisdom. Delays aren't inevitable... but (especially on the PS3) they do seem to happen more often than not.
The best way to enjoy video games is to focus on what is available NOW, and worry about upcoming titles only when they finally get released. MGS, Final Fantasy, Home, and LBP? They'll get here eventually... but why not enjoy the games available right now while we wait?
Frankly, I'm *not* confident that LBP will be out in September - but things look good for an end of 2008 release. With several other big titles coming up, hopefully a few weeks won't make any difference one way or the other.

Well, I for one can't enjoy the PS3 without these games, since there aren't any more games worth playing. :)
PERHAPS Assassin's Creed and Ninja Gaiden...

Why'd you buy a PS3 then? I find it hard to believe that there's nothing out that appeals to you...Do you even like to play games at all?
Maybe you're talking about exclusives? I guess I could understand that (if that is indeed the case), because I have no plans to buy a 360 since most games are cross-platform, and the exclusives to that system are not enticing to me at all.

I can't see what all the fuss is about with this game... it looks boring along the sort of lemmings mold...
Can't see why it deserves all the hype its getting
Carlton @ Jan 9th 2008 11:33AM
Lemmimgs was the most awesome puzzle game of its day and sold a brickload, so lets hope you're right.
Tombot @ Jan 9th 2008 11:41AM
And I'm sure with your cold, dry, shrivlled up heart bieng dullded to the jovial entertainment of creation you'll never understand.

I thought I was the only one. I just don't see what's so fun about it even after watching all the trailers on Gametrailers. Maybe I'm missing some big feature that everyone knows about but I haven't seen yet.

The fun is creating and sharing. Some people don't like to do either. I guess the last 10 years of playing FPS games has taken that ability away from a lot of gamers.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jan 9th 2008 7:24PM
True word Popfrogs. I think LocoRoco saved my mind from becoming derivative FPS-mushyness.
Lars @ Jan 9th 2008 8:09PM
Tombot really hit the nail on the head. That really sums it up while simultaneously... no, no... TRImultaneously putting someone down and further lifting the spirits of those of us who are excited about it.
Mark Perkins @ Jan 9th 2008 11:47AM
I'm getting real tired of these delays, and I'm a die hard fan.
Byron517 @ Jan 9th 2008 11:41AM
Well there Jim Bob Billy how bout you lay off the MOONSHINE and realise that this game is CUTTING EDGE!!! It is doing something that has not been done before!!! I'm sorry its not Gaylo or as fun as shooting squirrels off your back porch but to us people with IQ over 50 that understand the phrase "ground breaking" we can't wait for this to come out!! Yippie Ki YAY!!!
Davsot @ Jan 9th 2008 12:02PM
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! How am I supposed to make my friends jealous now Sony? This is so infuriating! I don't even have PSP-2000 so I can't use Skype. Is there any good news coming out of CES from Sony?
Toby @ Jan 9th 2008 12:10PM
everything takes longer because of next gen. the delays are just the companies thinking they can pull off a ps2 game with hi def graphics in a same amount of time they used to, but theyre now slowly learning to give themselves more time. I think till be out by september, the game looks really far along, and theyre giving themselves sufficient working-out-the-kinks time
EDW @ Jan 9th 2008 12:23PM
Littlebigplanet is one of the best looking games i've ever seen (referring to the fun-factor, not graphics.) as the owner of every game system but a PS3, i'd hate to think that i'd have to spend a few hundred more dollars to get Littlebigplanet. but it's just that tempting.
Lars @ Jan 9th 2008 8:13PM
Seriously, you're interested in LBP yet *nothing* else on the platform?
T-P-M @ Jan 9th 2008 12:36PM
Isn't it supposed to be a download first, then after a load of user created content has come out come on bluray with the best? Maybe they scrapped that idea, but if it is still the case is Sept. the download date or the bluray date?
Organic_Shadow @ Jan 9th 2008 12:31PM
They said they're in Alpha, and they're hoping to be in public beta sooner rather than later, and by the looks of how 'far along' the videos look I would say that September is just their worst-case-scenario month they're tagging it with.
Popfrogs @ Jan 9th 2008 3:51PM
One of the videos has the dev commenting on the sped-up video and he says something like "we're still a long way away from release" and how much more work they have to do. He might be right, but I'd rather they take their time than rush it out the door (*cough* Lair *cough*) just to make a deadline.

rushed games
LeChuck @ Jan 9th 2008 12:36PM
Not sure why my post got cut off. It was supposed to say:
rushed games are much worse than delays
proArchy @ Jan 9th 2008 3:05PM
they must be in thourough testing of all the network stuff, as the creation, and gameplay looks pretty polished. or maybe they're just playing around with new materials, and tools to include. or just playing around in general, i'm surprised they can actually get anything done with this game around. +10 for focus! oh, and my poor, poor 60gb hard drive! between this and ut3 it'll be rendered obsolete!
