Warner preparing Blu-ray profile 1.1 movies
Having announced that they have gone Blu-ray exclusive less than a week ago, Warner Bros. has told High-Def Digest that they will soon be releasing profile 1.1 compatible movies. Warner have been slow to release movies on Blu-ray in comparison to HD-DVD because they have been waiting for picture-in-picture commentaries and other such features which have only recently been made available to Blu-ray players via profile 1.1.
While no dates have been given for any upcoming releases, Batman Begins and The Matrix were both mentioned as being prepped for Blu-ray release. We can't wait for profile 1.1 movies to start hitting the shelves and if one of the first is going to the The Matrix, we're doubly excited. The format war may be fun to discuss, but we shouldn't forget what it means: more disc releases on Blu-Ray. Bring them on.

Awesome, I'll totally buy The Matrix on blu-ray when it comes out!

Yeah BD Live is yet another feature that really makes me want to pick up a PS3. I think Haze, LBP, and Killzone 2 will seal the deal for me later this year.

Can't wait for the Matrix Trilogy on BR!!!

Epic pic, and definitely looking forward to some Matrix in glorious high definition!

It's about damn time. ---
You take the BLU pill and the HD format story ends.
Remember -- all I am offering is the truth, nothing more.

I just got my BD of Sunshine, which is Profile 1.1, and I must say that the 1.1 features were somewhat of a letdown. I hope future 1.1 releases take more advantage of the tools it provides.
The PiP commentary on Sunshine is brief (18 mins), so it doesn't really make it worth watching the whole movie just to see the commentary segments; being so infrequent, they just act as distractions from the film.
There was a lot of hype concerning the 1.1 nature of Sunshine's BD, much like this article, and I was pretty excited about receiving it. In the end, the PiP was irritating and everythign else was DVD-era special features. Mind you, the special features are interesting and there are lots of them--I'm not knocking this disc. I highly recommend the Sunshine BD for those who enjoyed the movie; it looks great, the sound is amazing, and the commentaries are interesting. But the 1.1 stuff just never materialized.
Hopefully, Matrix et. al will get a better treatment with next-gen-worthy special features.

I could care less about the PiP stuff, all I think most people care about is that the picture looks great and the audio is lossless.

Nothing to prepare, they've had profile 2.0 ready titles since last year.
Only then, it was called HD-DVD.
Popfrogs @ Jan 9th 2008 5:21PM
And back in those days even the expensive players would only output 1080i. Where was the lossless audio? Oh wait...the inferior, dead, betamax standard didn't have it.
Eddie @ Jan 9th 2008 5:30PM
Betamax was not inferior to VHS, but it WAS brought to us by your overlords at Sony. Enjoy your DRM. Maybe a guide to making analogies that make sense will come out on Blew Ray?

I wonder if they will release a trilogy on one Bluray disc, I don't know why they didn't do that with Spiderman, I mean it fits right? BTW, I sent this on contact us to PS3fanboy.com yesterday and nothing happened, I bet they don't even read they're emai;, and just say not all will be able to get read, but look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irTGFUTZ4WA
BananaBoat @ Jan 9th 2008 5:20PM
I hope they aren't going to be douchebags and put out the entire trilogy in one set. I could care less about the 2nd and 3rd movies, and having to pay for them all when I just want movie 1, would be a real let down.
Very excited for it though

I think Warner might do a double movie deal with Batman. You would get Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. That would mean by the time that comes out both movies would be on Blu-Ray 2.0
GamerGuyX @ Jan 9th 2008 7:40PM
Wow. Do you people even realize that The Matrix trilogy has been on HD DVD since May 22, 2007? If you want an idea of what will be featured on the Blu-ray editions just look for info on the HD DVD versions.

This is hilarious. How long have we had these titles on HD DVD with those features? BD is clearly the superior format. That's why it takes over a year for BD to offer the same experience as HD DVD. I'm not looking to fight. I own a ps3 also, You just gotta admit that this is not great news. The proof is in the pudding.
