When a game goes "gold" it basically means everything is done and the game's just waiting for its release date to pounce on the masses.
Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't gold -- but if we could call it anything, it would be silver. The game's done. It's not going to miss its release date of Q2 2008. What's left? According to Konami, there's just bug testing left to go, as well as inserting bits of the opening movie or something. What we're trying to say is that do not expect any more delays for this game. It's coming. Be ready. Well, be more ready when we get a solid release date, but for now, be adequately prepared to get ready.

Strange that it could be that complete and yet still at least 3 months away from release.
Haiddasalami @ Jan 11th 2008 11:18AM
its common in game development for being technically done with time to spare. Anyways squash those bugs...this is actually good where some game dev's(not to mention names) leave a week to a couple of weeks to iron out the glitches and bugs. It is Kojima after all.

Insanely complex games like these have to have months and months of QA and testing. Especially when its free roaming cameras and stuff. They also gotta tweak balancing issues, and like 10 million other things I can't be bothered to think of.
Plus you gotta remember it includes MGO too =) They've gotta test both out insanely lol.
And really, they gotta get insane reviews for this game. Reviews are super nit-picky and any thing they find, they'll hammer down. Last chance for them to get it completely done right =P.

I can bet that reviewers are going to nick pick this to death. After all it is one of the super three sony exclusives.

You mean like deducting points for being too hard(Uncharted) and then deducting for being too easy(Ratchet). The wolves will be out that is for sure.

Or kinda how everyone nit picked Halo 3 to death since it was the same old repetitive game play, weak story, only really redeeming feature was the multi.......of wait no, the got nearly perfect scores across the board. I'll leave it at this, Its MGS4.......it's GOING to get really high scores simply because of what it is and actually reviewers tend to be a little more forgiving of small flaws in big games like this because they like the series far too much for it to bug them. Hence the Halo 3 reviews.

firstly, MGO is not sold with MGS4, just a preview of it. Full game sold seperately.
MGS4 will get good reviews regardless if the story is MGS2.5.
I will actually buy a PS3 for this game when it comes out.
Hopefully they'll start packing rumble by that time.
shooting guns just aint' the same on a SIXAXIS without it.

@ryan:
Actually if you wanna nitpick the story versioning, this one is really MGS3. MGS3 was a throwback story to the cold war era, therefore in the timeline sequence it'd be what, MGS1.5 or .5.

This game is gonna be awesome. I will gladly wait 3 to 4 months for them to iron out the wrinkles and make everything as good as it can be. Most bugs don't kill a game, but they are distracting and take you out of the experience. Like with Assassin's Creed when you occasionally kill a guard and they flop around, spaz and contort in an unnatural and mechanical way before they come to rest. You can bet that this won't happen in MGS4.

Yet, there are still xbots out there that think this is not an exclusive.
ryan @ Jan 11th 2008 1:20PM
then they are ignorant sluts. this "Xbot" feels strongly that MGS4 will be the title to move PS3s. This along with GT5, and FFXIII will move PS3s also.
it'll be the beginning of the PS2 era all over again! Hurray! and i'll gladly buy into it. ;)
Pipe @ Jan 11th 2008 6:16PM
Just give me a date and Sony, you have another PS3 sold! This is wat ive been waiting for.
