Resistance 2 revealed in latest Game Informer [UPDATE]

As for game features, this looks to be the biggest online game yet seen on a console. There are two separate story modes, one intended for single player and one that will support two-player co-op offline or eight player co-op online. On top of this the online competitive mode will support sixty players per server. Warhawk, eat your heart out. There will be new vehicles, semi-randomly generated levels and a class system for online play.
Wait, did we say two story modes? One co-op and one single player? Does that not sound awesome? Yes, it does - because, from what we can see, Resistance 2 will be made of Awesome.
[UPDATE] The game is aiming for an Autumn 2008 release. Any expectations regarding an early 2009 release are solely down to the cynicism of the article's author.

That they are. I can't believe how awesome this sounds. If Resistance: Fall of Man's online and single player wasn't already better than anything currently out, this just cements Insomniac as THE developer of the video games industry.

Oh my gosh, I always loved Insomniac better than Naughty Dog but Uncharted changed my mind. But Insomniac still owns that place in my PS3!!!

Is that the Cloven's symbol on Hale's arm? I guess he's fighting alongside them now. Which is cool, cos I was upset to find that (with the exception of the closing cinematic) we only ever see dead Cloven, no alive ones. I'm looking forward to finding out more about them.
Also, his red eyes look freaky. It'll be interesting to see how the virus continues to affect Hale. And, hopefully, we'll actually find out what the Chimera are in this one. Are they aliens or a genetic experiment gone wrong?
The two campaign thing sounds cool too. I may well have to pick this game up.

Nope, the Chimera are aliens. They showed up to kick everyone's ass, I guess their planet sucked.

Rooslin: No, they say that the virus started in Russia. Although there is the implication that the Chimera are a genetic experiment gone wrong, it is never explicitly stated. It is treated as a mystery by the characters.
However, the level of the Chimeran technology is far in excess of what even the Cloven - who appear to be mutated/altered remnants of the Russians - can boast, which suggests that the Chimera may actually be aliens, rather than have Russian origins. The fact that they are unable to live on Earth without their cooling aparatus, and the way in which they begin to change the climate to make it cooler, also suggests they may come from a much colder planet.

Anyways according to what i thought of the Story in part 1, The Chimera invaded Russia first, and the Chimera cant do it or something so they send those pods with the little bugs to infect the Humans,since they can produce offspring. Then they pick up the dead/almost humans and take them to that factory in which they are placed in cocoons, then they transform into a chimera depending on how many/how long the humans were kept there for, if i remember correctly max thing human could evolve into was the Chimera with the Auger, or the Big one that Shoots the rockets.
I Can't wait for the insane new weapons they will come up with next, surprised no one has even mentioned this. Please give us a better super weapon than the Shredder that thing sucked, and should i dare say Goldeneye007 mix and match dual wielding guns
BTW were those Cloven or American Soldiers that pick him up in the end?

I'm hoping for some Haze like gameplay with the eyes. Maybe have some senses in your eyes that make you detect near eneimes, or upcoming dangers.
But obiously not on all the time, can be triggered for a short burst like.
I wonder if this, and killzone 2, could be PS3's halo?

P.S. I saw some scans of the images in the magazine... the Chimera have changed a bit. More armor, a bit more reptillian, and a bit fatter... I liked them more when they were somewhat emaciated, but eh, whatever.

will it support local lan co-op and deathmatch play? if so this game may infact become playstations halo. give it enough marketing and who knows. insomniac has proven themselves worthy masters of cell with resistance:fom and rachet and clank. they could have anounced "poop flavored skittles, the game" and still got my $60.
this post by itself unseated killzone2 for my most anticipated FPS and puts this game second on my list of expected must haves knocking LBP, GT5 and wipeout HD down a notch to sit right behind MGS4.

Resistance already owned Halo 3, being in full 720p, (halo 3 at 640p) having 40 player online (halo 3 16 player max). I think the story will be good as long as its not narrated like it was before. Hale is the main character, but you don't get a sense of the story from his perspective which imo caused a disconnect from players association with the character.

The background shows alot of aircrafts like its an invasion of sort. Maybe it will take place in the US, I'm not sure but that bridge looks familiar.

Unbelievable! Why it have to be coming out in 09, but not in 08? Sigh... Anyway, I got through Resistance 1, and I thought it was the end of that. I guess I'm not done yet then. So far I'm quite happy with PS3, as their games are made of awesome. I love Resistance! I also love other games such as Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, WarHawk, and Heavenly Sword. I also anxious to see the next Final Fantasy.
