The Poll Police know the greatest game in the PS3's launch lineup was easily
Resistance: Fall of Man. A second title had long been rumored in development but never confirmed -- denied by Insomniac, even. Not outright, mind you, but never did they slip and say such a game was planned. But it was. We now know
some of the details regarding Resistance 2 and we need your help. What was your reaction? What are your expectations? But since we need a closed answer instead of an open-ended one, answer our poll to the best of your ability.
We're interested to see where the game ends up -- a lot of talk regarding games early in development tends to get pushed aside when the final product is revealed. We're not saying Insomniac can't deliver on their promises, but we won't be shocked if some details get smudged around a bit before the tentative Fall '08 release. What about
last week's poll? Take the jump and find out.

Cool. It's almost a unanimous decision that the HD format wars are starting to show signs of slowing down. 87% of you who voted thought that the move for Warner Bros. to take Blu-ray as their format of choice was an important point in this battle for consumer share of wallet. The only thing close to that is the notion HD DVD will pay off another studio for continued support. It's possible. Still, we'd like the war to come to a close so people can get weaned off of DVDs when the price for Blu-ray discs and players match their ancestors'. We'll see you next week and as usual, thanks for voting!

faraz @ Jan 13th 2008 9:07PM
well for me, i don't own the ps3 but i'm getting it just for a bunch of games including mgs4 and motorstorm, and GoW 3, and killzone 2
i could get the wii but im not gay (jk)
i played the first one and i have 360 and it just didn't measure up to halo for me and i know that most of you guys think halo sucks but in terms of multiplayer and singleplayer, i just got spoiled by halo and its hard to enjoy other fps's that aren't as solid

I believe that this game was with out a doubt one of the best launch titles. The first player campaign was awesome. One of the best I have ever played. The online component was lacking to me. I felt it was shallow. They know their online component was too shallow, which is why this new installment has apparently garnered so much attention. Now, they are cutting edge instead of just dull edged. The one launch title that I think is the best is Motorstorm. They have given that game more support than any other PS3 title to date. We have been handed over new time trials, mirror modes for tracks, both of which were free, new vehicles, and new maps. Also, they recently announced as CES we are getting two more map packs while we are waiting on Motorstorm 2. Why am I pointing all this out? It is because I want the next Resistance to be given as much attention as Motorstorm got. This will increase the games playability. They better do something big since COD4 has now set the bar for online FPS gaming. Here’s to hoping Resistance 2 can achieve greatness.

After playing COD4 its got alot to live up to be GOTY ... but I would gladly like to see that happen. Even if it isn't GOTY its defiantly one of my fav. games.
Tom @ Jan 13th 2008 6:09PM
more intrested in lego indiana jones :)
Chris Rah Osiris @ Jan 13th 2008 6:14PM
This could be GOTY easy.
gk128 @ Jan 13th 2008 6:15PM
The first is meh-tastic. I expect this one to follow suit.
Also they are promising an awful much. Are we sure Insominiac is not trying to one up Peter Molyneux with their claims?
Dehshizknight @ Jan 13th 2008 6:46PM
When was the last time Insomniac exer under-achieved?
Jay @ Jan 13th 2008 6:15PM
Awesome. Now where is PSN Bowling for the UK?
PETEJOZ @ Jan 13th 2008 6:25PM
60 player online...come on, that alone says "epic"
Two story lines, one of them is eight player co op, another epic win.
If they give us more weapons and good online vehicles (like UT 3) it will HAVE to win GOTY
Fish Face McGee @ Jan 13th 2008 6:59PM
As a 360 user, the 8 player online co-op and 60 player versus has gotten me starting to save up 400.
Dustin @ Jan 13th 2008 7:01PM
I got a boner...!

Thats my reaction. I'm picking up the issue Monday at Gamestop, cause thats when it comes out there. But I just really really really really hope they include online co-op on one console like Warhawk. 2 people playing online with one system rocks. I'm sure they will have it. Also 1080i 60FPS I'm sure it will be. Maybe 720p, but maybe we can pull a Ratchet and Clank Future and upscale it to 1080i and still be at 60FPS.
Haiddasalami @ Jan 13th 2008 7:01PM
I have to agree with your reacton.
Fish Face McGee @ Jan 13th 2008 7:00PM
As a 360 user, the features for this game have gotten me excited enough to start saving up for the console.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 14th 2008 1:52PM
The first one was a lot of fun. I hope the second one kicks it up a notch.
Haiddasalami @ Jan 13th 2008 7:01PM
Come on Insomniac has never disappointed me and to think that 60 players online is the target, I say take all the fucking time you want. I predict November to Dec 08 being released. Just to give some space from LBP and Killzone hitting. Killzone is coming out Sept 08 right?
Fraser JK @ Jan 14th 2008 3:35AM
No, really, this sounds like GOTY. Seriously... to be honest I didn't really care about the first Resistance, played it, cuz it was part of my PS3 bundle BUT, dude... last week's announcement made RFOM2 a must have!
choirovwolves @ Jan 13th 2008 8:40PM
GOTY material for sure, despite there being virtually no information about it. It can only be better than the game that preceded it, and that's enough to make me eager to knab it.
N @ Jan 13th 2008 9:20PM
Resistence 2 is the final teetering point for me. I believe 08 is the year I pick up a PS3. MGS4, Resistence 2, and LBP sound too sweet to pass up.
HighTension98 @ Jan 13th 2008 10:25PM
Damn. I am a huge Xbox 360 fanboy, and I am going to have to say that this is pretty damn awesome. Better than anything the 360 has to offer. I thought that the original resistance was a great game, but this is just amazing.
Prophestus @ Jan 13th 2008 10:38PM
60 player online heavily intrigues me, but as a gamer all my life i've been playing 64 player battles in games like Tribes since '99...How would this be accomplished with no lag and connection issues, especially with console hosts. It really seems to me that its going to be a standard shoot 'em up online and not as in-depth as halo, cod4, etc...oh well I know i'll end up buying it either way.
joshua @ Jan 13th 2008 11:09PM
"console hosts"? I assume by that you mean the fact that most online games on consoles struggle with 16 players. Well, my friend, that is because 360 does not have dedicated servers that host games! Every 360 online game is peer-to-peer.
Sony, though, actually sets up servers. Resistance 1 ran fine with 40 players, and Warhawk runs flawlessly with 32 players flying, driving, shooting, etc. I actually think they use PS3s as servers, just roll out racks of them. So, yes, its definitely possible on consoles.
The thing that excites me about this game is not so much just the 60 players but the way they are planning to do it, with small squads and objectives. 4 or 5 players going out, getting into firefights, it should be really awesome if done right! And they also said they are going to revamp Myresistance.net into a full-blown page like Bungie.net. They know what they are doing.
Kspraydad @ Jan 14th 2008 10:25AM
CoD4 is alot of things...but depth??
B1gC72 @ Jan 14th 2008 2:38AM
im super excited. i actually just got done playing 2 hours of Resistance Capture the Flag. i love the first one and considering it's Insomniac, i dont really expect them to disappoint on their goals. PS3 should be able to handle 60 players no problem with a server based scheme and 8 player online co-op sounds fantastic. i really hope that they do like Warhawk and let me play online split screen with a friend, that would be great. i dont know if it would be GOTY material but i do feel it will be a very solid game and a definite buy for me.
btw PSN: KillaKornbread add me!
jango fett @ Jan 14th 2008 2:46AM
il have to play resistance 1 if im to play this game.
Sauvage @ Jan 14th 2008 5:04PM
Don't forget the Insomniac podcast this Thursday where they will no doubt mention Resistance 2. You can listen to it @ http://www.insomniacgames.com/podcast/podcast.php
zen @ Jan 14th 2008 9:18AM
This would be a very, very serious game if you could take out those enormous flops in the sky, kick their butt on the ground and then use them as natural defensive terrain.
But better yet, this game would be more awesome if it was one giant map (360 landscape movement) where the further you progress on foot, the fiercer and more violent the enemy.
Trying to bypass heavily fortified areas gets you surrounded.
Taking too long to take a area gives the enemy time to launch a massive counter offensive that just pushes you back several miles.
Having at least 50-100 fellow soldiers (A.I) fighting alongside you. That is awesome because you feel like you're really in a war.
Now, that's a game!
jtedesco33 @ Jan 14th 2008 9:34AM
The first game was very fun but 60 player onlin battles seems like to much for me. COD4 went with small numbers of players for a reason, when you get that many players strategy will not be used. Not to mention how hard it will be to get a word in edgewise through the mic.
C'mon guys that's just a bullet point, large battles aren't what's needed at all. What's needed is fully destructible environments, non-noob weapons like the bullseye to disappear, those things are important.
I can understand that PS3 wants to create a Halo killer but until they get smart and realize these full scale battles will never get them there, I'm not going to get my hopes up. Plus I'm a little nervous as to why Killzone 2 was to be heralded as the best online that would rival Halo.
Now a few months later they are saying the new Halo killer will be RFOM 2 seems kinda fishy to me.
Popfrogs @ Jan 14th 2008 7:20PM
COD4 went with small teams because that's all they could get it to handle, and their servers are having a hard time as it is. Plus, they left out one very important thing that Battlefield 2 had: squads. The original Resistance has done well with this. You have to do things this way in large matches to keep the noise down and keep everything organized. I doubt R2 will be any different in this respect unless they go full BF2 and try to have commanders that tell squads what to do and have access to airstrikes and whatnot.
Oh what a glorious game R2 would be with big squads and commanders lording over 30 people.
Musouka @ Jan 15th 2008 8:13AM
20 vs 20 matches in R1 weren't overcrowded. I could get a breather whenever I want by going to a desolate area or sticking together with my squad, letting them protect me.
It's not like we're going to play 30vs30 on 4vs4 map-layouts, either. Actually the 4vs4 (or 8p deathmatch) Nottingham layout is the most frantic in R1.
