Ever wonder why we sometimes don't write about news stories that are incredibly breaking and almost too good to be true? It's because we're realists and try to keep an objective mind. Or because things are usually too good to be true. Like screenshots of in-game XMB in action.
Kotaku is exactly the same way -- except they actually took the initiative to call Sony and ask about the faked screenshots. Sony replied to them bluntly that the pictures were indeed fake and nothing is planned for the next firmware update as far as in-game XMB goes. Too bad.

I think I speak for just about everyone when I say "awww."
Byron517 @ Jan 16th 2008 2:43PM
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SONY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HOOK US UP!!!! You know what..... the hell with it... WHO do I need to sleep with to make this happen!? I'll take on for the team F*&k it! LMAO Jokes!! No but really sometimes in the near *stressing near* future we would appriciate this become REALITY and not fake!!
Dan Davis @ Jan 16th 2008 2:46PM
This is getting pretty freakin ridiculous now. C'mon Sony... listen to your fanbase ONCE!
Extinction @ Jan 16th 2008 5:00PM
1) Sony listens to us ALL THE TIME. We've gotten tons of features we've asked for
2) They've said we're getting in-game XMB. They have again, listened to us
Organic_Shadow @ Jan 16th 2008 2:57PM
Umm, okay but this photo isn't "too good to be true". This is just a photo of something Sony already told us they've been working on, so actually was pretty unsurprising when it popped on the net.
Had the photo shown "Killzone 2 finished coming out Feb 1 as a surprise! HAHA!" THEN maybe we can say too good to be true.
buzzbean @ Jan 16th 2008 3:12PM
I know I am in the minority but I could give 2 SH!T$ about in-game XMB. But that's just me. Actually I do want it to come out so I no longer have to here about it, but then there will be something else people will cry about
Jason @ Jan 16th 2008 3:16PM
Right there with ya. I'm tired of hearing about this. Of course I'd much rather have my PS3's biggest issue be the absence of in-game XMB and not the Red Ring of Death.
JayD-1K @ Jan 16th 2008 3:12PM
i think R:FOM pulls up the friends list like that. i'll have to check.
JayD-1K @ Jan 16th 2008 8:50PM
yes, you goto the community section of the game and goto the friends area...you can pull up the xmb! you can read and send messages their. didn't try to start a vedio or audio chat room. if some does...let me know how it works plz.
Jason @ Jan 16th 2008 3:13PM
I guess since I don't play much multi-player and all of my friends opted to go the 360 route this really doesn't matter to me at all. I don't think it would be a big deal to me anyway. I get on my PS3 to play games, not chat with friends, I got a phone for that. Screw in-game XMB.
buzzbean @ Jan 16th 2008 3:21PM
Cheers!
Maci @ Jan 16th 2008 4:40PM
Well if you had friends that had a PS3 then you would like to invite them into your game without having to exit. Or maybe you might want to meet somebody to play with then you could add them in game.
Jason @ Jan 16th 2008 4:53PM
Even if I did have friends with PS3s, I don't particularly like online multi-player. I can see the appeal for people who like to play online multi-player games all the time. But for me it doesn't matter, I only play Warhawk and COD4 occasionally and I could care less about playing with specific people (I always mute everyone anyway, there too damn annoying).
TripleTags @ Jan 16th 2008 3:25PM
CVG was the first to officially confirm this.
TripleTags @ Jan 16th 2008 3:31PM
Whats more I remember when blogs like Engadget used to post pictures for the sake of discussion and not trying to break news .. just saying.
xFenixKnightx @ Jan 16th 2008 3:32PM
Pathetic, they neeed to get their shit straight. In game XMB is sweet and anybody who sais its not a big deal just doesnt know what its like I guess. But to be honest I fall in the same boat of "all my friends have 360's so it doesnt matter anyway" group.
xFenixKnightx @ Jan 16th 2008 3:35PM
Damn you comment system
Sauvage @ Jan 16th 2008 3:37PM
I think Sony get that people want in-game XMB, but maybe it's technically a bit more challenging that just doing it overnight. If it was that easy, they seriously would have done it by now. I would wager there will need to be a fairly major firmware release if is ever going to see the light of day. There must be other technical hitches holding them back.
Frank @ Jan 16th 2008 4:18PM
Anything else you'd like to add, Captain Obvious?
Sauvage @ Jan 16th 2008 6:42PM
Yes actually, I'd like to say Frank my dear boy, can I be Frank with you? That was an obvious reply to my obvious post.
Is there anything else you'd like to add, since you are being Frank?
jimmyink @ Jan 16th 2008 6:41PM
Frank: for some people it had to be said. But what about your comment?
If we all knew everything (as apparently you do) then there wouldn't be a need for news sites like this. Think next time before you say anything and whether it will actually contribute to something.
Michael @ Jan 16th 2008 4:19PM
Even though game developers can add this capability to a certain extent, it probably would be nice if there was standard to it. Rock Band, Resistance, and I am sure others do a good job of implementing it. I just don't think people take advantage of or know how to do it.
Maci @ Jan 16th 2008 4:42PM
Rock Band is good but fails to add voice capabilities. In-game XMB could be useful here.
Michael @ Jan 16th 2008 5:03PM
@Maci
You are definitely right about voice chat in Rock Band. It is a necessity, but it would be most useful implemented within the game, as it voice chatting with someone outside the game really doesn't help. What I mean, is when you have invited friends and searching, it would be great to be able to talk while choosing songs, or other prep screens. It would also be awesome to talk while the game is going, but that may be hard to pull off because of the mic part in the game. It is definitely sucks not be able to tell people which song to choose, or to switch instruments and such.
viet @ Jan 16th 2008 9:31PM
WHAT!?
ChodalBerryWagon @ Jan 17th 2008 3:16AM
even if these are fake, I have a feeling that's what it will look like, but maybe with the actual game in the background, not a black screen.
