PS3 Alone in the Dark falls into darkness

The game has been delayed until May for all systems except for the PS3, which has been given a "sometime in 2008" release. Very helpful. But what happened to the PS3 version being released day-and-date with the other versions, as promised? Let's hope this is the last instance of this issue we ever see.

Whats one more crappy game that gets delayed?
Just wondering, has anyone been keeping track of how many PS3 games got delayed in total?
ryan @ Jan 17th 2008 1:10PM
i think the number can only be equivalent to the number of developers who can't take the time and focus on using everything the PS3 is capable of.
just try a little, guys. it'll make everyone happier if games are out on time and are polished. if it takes a PS3 bootcamp then so be it.

Perfection takes time.
ryan @ Jan 17th 2008 1:04PM
yes, perfection does take time.
but ignorant developers finding their way through the PS3 labyrinth takes time also.
the same thing is happening for Silent Hill 5. The Collective is currently only working on the 360 build because it's technology they are used to. later they'll port it or have EA port it *shudders*.

oh how disappointing is this?! i love alone in the dark. now i gotta wait for who knows how long
finelicker @ Jan 17th 2008 2:18PM
Oh well, I had high hopes for this game. I fear the PS3 version is going to be a shoddy half assed version of its brethren.
bigd7387 @ Jan 17th 2008 2:19PM
When will the PS3 fanboys understand that Sony is the problem not the developers. Just like what happened with the PS2, Sony made a system that was not standard language that other systems used, I.E...Xbox and PC.
MS learned this and I thought that Sony was going to but not this generation. Everything takes longer on the PS3 and looks worse, All Sports Games, Orange Box, Virtua Fighter 5, and now it looks like it will screw up BioShock if it ever gets it.
I just bought my PS3 last week but it may not last much longer. You can even get a demo of every download game that they offer, like Live. And most of my videos don't stream off of it, unlike the 360.
What do they call this thing again the DelayStation.
ryan @ Jan 17th 2008 3:34PM
to pwn your arguement utterly, COD4 released for both systems day one, the PS3 version ended up with superior graphics since it was built on the PS3 separately.
but, i opted to get the 360 version of COD4 because the controller is, contrary to popular PS3fanboy belief, superior for FPS games.
PS3 is new technology and developer's need to learn it. Once they do, they'll start pumping out quality titles like God of War for PS2 onto the PS3.
TheSh0wstopper @ Jan 17th 2008 2:30PM
Ok, Let me first say I LOVE MY PS3. With that said, I HATE MY PS3!!!
If I didnt have a 360 I would have prolly jumped out of a window by now. Every game is either a horrible port, delayed, or both. I got Unreal Tournament 3 last week. Good game (though really hard to play when your stoned... too fast). And I guarantee you when that comes out for 360 it is gonna clearly be a superior version (mostly because of the lack of ram).
Also everyone keeps mentioning that it is hard to program for as a reason to all of the bad ports and delays. And that over time it devs will learn to program for it and will ease this problem. Lets not forget about the lack of ram. I dont care how good you program you aint gonna make 256 do wat 512 does. PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

"Every game is either a horibble port, delayed, or both"Sure. And EVERY XBox360 gets RRoD.See? Now we are both liars.
Popfrogs @ Jan 17th 2008 3:44PM
Ram isn't the issue, it's how you use it. Both machines have 512MB, only the PS3 has it carved up differently. I believe the PS3 allows devs to use the memory as they see fit, but they are 2 different types of memory (one faster than the other). I'm no expert on the PS3 architecture but I could have sworn that argument was proven false by ND or someone already.

@emaxximus
Dude, I wasnt speaking literally. I didnt mean every single game. DMC4 and Burnout are supposed to be better for PS3. And Oblivion is supposed to be better graphically. So 3 out of 100. So I retract my statement of "Every game is either a horibble port, delayed, or both" and would like to replace it with "97% of games are either a horibble port, delayed, or both". Happy? Oh let me guess im still lying? so which games are superior on PS3 again? Btw I own both systems and prolly more than 3x as many games as you.

@Riv
Im sweet for you big boy.
@popfrogs,
Finally someone sensible to talk to. Yea there are obviously work arounds to address the issue WHEN MAKING PS3 EXCLUSIVE GAMES. The problem comes when we are talking about multi plat games because then they are compared. For example we can all agree that Uncharted looks amazing. But what if there was a 360 version of it? Then it could POSSIBLY look better, and instead of praising the ps3 version as a good game we would be ripping it for being a sub par port. I was watching an interview with John Carmack (if you dont know who that is please dont reply to this post). And throughout he constantly ripped on the PS3 for its ram issues.
T The difference is that the 360 has 512 of unified ram while the PS3 has 256 for graphics and 256 for system. Which limits Devs.

go back under your bridge troll. You're saying that Infinity Ward didn't make the best game they possibly could have made because they were gimping it for the poor little PS3's split ram? You're also saying that Capcom has done the same thing for DMC4? you're deluded. These developers that actually enjoy their jobs and love making games love it because of the challenge they get from making the best game they possibly can. You basing your "knowledge" off of crappy lazy ports is an insult to the developers that are hard at work making the most kick ass games they can for all systems. John Carmack? didn't he also say that the Tech5 engine can run the same on 360 and PS3 with NO performance difference? so which is it?

Grover's comments are where it starts to get good.

-Not a troll. I actually own both systems and am rooting for PS3.

Go kill yourselves Sony haters. All the top devs in the gaming industry have spoken out and said the PS3 architecture is great and they love it(Epic(Gears of War), Kojima Productions, Naughty Dog, Guerilla Games,Infinity Ward, Ubi Soft) and many others. The reason for multiplat. titles coming to PS3 later than 360 is due to lazy developers, and in some cases personal bias and fanboyism(Valve). I wasn't even looking foward to Alone in the Dark anyway because Resident Evil 5, Dead Space and Condemned 2 are on the way. I won't support or buy any games from any game company that half ass PS3 titles, so the Alone in the Dark team are being added to my list right along with the pathetic xbox fanboy Valve.

You must really hate your PS3 to make comments without confirming the information you’re stating. Unless 360 gets the option of importing mods and gets keyboard and mouse support, UT3 will be better on the PS3.
You're comparing 1st year PS3 games to 2nd year 360 games? What the heck did 360 have in its first year that was so good? Gears of War was the only game worth talking about and that came late 2006. This year PS3 is going to be pushing MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and GT5 just to name a few for the PS3’s second year. By the way, Bioshock, and other PC releases aren’t 360 exclusives if I can get them on my PC. You won’t see any of the PS3 titles mentioned above on any other platform.
There’s so much more to build on now that you got me started, but I think I’ll stop here. Be happy that you bought the superior version of UT3 on the PS3 instead of finding false claims to support the 360 on a PS3 blog.
