Umihara Kawase playable in Flash demo
What is Umihara Kawase? It's a platformer "starring a nineteen year old Japanese school girl of the same name, who has somehow become lost in a world of mutated salt-water and fresh-water creatures." And it's coming to PSP.
Considering a release stateside is unlikely, you can try out the Bionic Commando-styled gameplay by playing the online Flash demo. Use the NUMPAD to move around, and press Enter when you want to swing around. If you enjoy it, you may want to consider importing it.

Umihara Kawase is very addicting, and fun definately my favorite platformer... The game is not straight forward beat this level and win, and it is no more like Bionic Commando than Sonic is like Mario. Its more of a finding a whole bunch of little tricks, and replaying the levels finding alternate paths for speed. You could play the game for years and still not find every trick in the game. You have to really use the rubber properties of the line, and every frame counts.
Here is a good video:

Or, if you're too lazy or can't afford to make the trip to Japan to import it, you might try ordering it online.
Anyway, I think this is the first time I've ever been somewhat jealous of PSP owners.

Hmmm... the demo doesn't really reflect accurately the PS1 version of the game, which is actually a lot of fun. It doesn't
let you shoot freely, but is a very rigid representation of what, if you're basing your decision to import off the flash demo, doesn't show how the game really plays.

The SNES version was the ultimate version of this great game.

SNES version is fun, you have this fishing rod and you swing like Bionic Commando just cuter.

Aww, I wanted to play this games. The SNES version was great...
Someone please bring this stateside. (As if anyone with that power would be reading this...)
