Sega: No plans for Virtua Fighter 5 PS3 patch

Do you think Sega would finally throw us PS3 VF5 owners bone? No and probably not ever, according to Sega's Jay Boor. He told PS3 Fanboy, "at this time SEGA has no plans to release a patch for the PS3 version of Virtua Fighter 5."
Sure, a few of you may look at that and still hold onto the possibility, but we're finally closing the door on any hope that the PS3 version will ever get any future improvements, let alone online play. Oh well, there's always the inevitable sequel, right?

Wow, you suck Sega :|

Expected nothing less. My SEGA boycott remains intact ...

Same here.
Shinogu @ Jan 19th 2008 5:12PM
Apparently they didn't develop the PS3 version to allow patches? Anyways, I don't have this game so I don't mind.
Mr Khan @ Jan 19th 2008 5:21PM
I thought getting the game first meant PS3 would be the lead platform for the title, but i guess it was the opposite (they presumed giving PS3 the title first would make up for the 360 getting the much better version)
A bitch move by SEGA, though

Hey, I'm sorry that this is unrelated, but no other skite has gotten me a response yet. If I have an adaptor for a PS2 controller to work on PS3, can I use a Guitar Hero 2 Guitar on my PS3 Rock Band? I ask because I'm pretty sure the patch to make the PS3 Guitar Hero 3 controller work with Rock Band still hasn't been released
ArmorForVictor @ Jan 20th 2008 5:04PM
no it does not work
russell @ Jan 19th 2008 5:28PM
this game just got taken off of my gamefly list.
canada @ Jan 19th 2008 5:51PM
This is unrelated, but does anybody know if I can get the Guitar Hero 2 guitar for the PS2 to work with PS3 Rock Band, provided I have an adaptor? I ask because im pretty sure the patch to make the GH3 guitar work with Rock Band hasn't been released yet
Xiru @ Jan 19th 2008 5:38PM
VF5 bombed on 360. So why are they giving 360 all the features? What makes the PSN any less than live? Last I checked, my PSN was up and live was down... But anyway, it looks like either its not doable on the PS3 or MS paid Sega some extra money to add online play. Check out the sales of both versions here:

jitty @ Jan 19th 2008 6:28PM
Wow, I had expected the 360 version to sell at least a bit better to deserve this but the ps3 outsells it by that much and the 360 version gets the patch? WTF?
Popfrogs @ Jan 20th 2008 3:02PM
You gotta be kidding me. Sega is giving all the love to the X360 version which was outsold by the PS3 version 4 to 1? Un-farking-believable.
Sega, you are _retarded_.
Mp3 @ Jan 19th 2008 5:41PM
"Oh well, there's always the inevitable sequel, right?"
Why would I buy the next version if these a-holes don't support the current version?
Oh, and canada, even if I knew the answer to your off topic post, I wouldn't answer it. Try posting the question to one of the CNN political blogs - that's an even less on-topic location - I'm sure they'd appreciate it!

Sega really droped the ball a long time ago. First the Sonic games started to go down hill after the Sonic Adventure series. Second, they didnt even bother to finish the Shenmue series with a 3rd game. Now they're not releasing an online patch for Virtual Fighter? That's a slap in the face to the millions of Japanese PS3 owners that were expecting it. Sega just isn't what it use to be....
L @ Jan 19th 2008 9:03PM
awww Shenmue 3 lol I am with you there man =)
As forthe patch Blah .. mind back when games never got patchs? yip along time ago
Popfrogs @ Jan 20th 2008 3:09PM
Sega is like an old family dog. You've grown up loving him, he was always there for you, but now he's 15 years old and can barely get from the couch to the door to go poop outside. You know he's dying, he knows he's dying, but you care too much to have him put to sleep. And he keeps soldiering on, waiting for the inevitable. First Sega destroyed their hardware with the 32x and all the junk afterwards, while losing arcade marketshare, now they can barely code games for the current consoles.
All I can say is if I worked at Sega today, I'd be posting a resume to monster.com.
canada @ Jan 19th 2008 5:52PM
oh go to hell Mp3
Carlton @ Jan 19th 2008 6:06PM
Why would anyone be playing VF5 when you can play Tekken 5: DR online for half the price?
Sure, it's just an arcade port so the graphics aren't as good, but it is Tekken... TEKKEN!!!!!!!!!!
Don't boycott Sega. Just wait patiently for them to release some decent games.
P.S. Tekken rules!
vahdyx @ Jan 19th 2008 7:20PM
well, I guess we all should pack up our ps3's and send them in for Xbox 360's!!!
Honestly who cares? This game was boring to me anyway. Now if it were a game that was actually cool like DoA or Street Fighter I'd be pretty upset, but VF... Oh no, I need to sell my ps3 like I did all my HD DVD's and player! It's over
hiiro @ Jan 20th 2008 1:03PM
DoA? You suck.
what? @ Jan 19th 2008 6:13PM
Wow, if you follow that link that Xiru gave (http://vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=Virtua+Fighter+5&console=&publisher=&genre=&keyword=&order=Last+Updated)
It look as though PS3 has most sales of this game. Obviously, Sega does not care for the part of the market that will make them money. I will NOT be purchasing games from them anymore. Especially if they do not want to support them with updates!
Vincent @ Jan 19th 2008 6:35PM
I don't boycott SEGA, the lack of online gameplay and Ver. B is the price we paid for getting the title early. I'm sure it would have been much more interesting for SEGA to invest on online play for PS3, since VF is a big hit in Japan compared to US and the PS3 is much more popular there than the 360.
Just wait for Virtua Fighter 5: Evolution, which will come out eventually. That should even the playing field for both console owners.
Vincent @ Jan 19th 2008 8:39PM
Basically we have to deal with a rushed out title that doesn't accept patches as easily, needing a whole new coding/work that would probably be very costly for SEGA and Sony to develop and agree with.
All I really wanted was more costumes and Ver. C (and D when it comes out). I don't really care about online play considering I have tons of rl friends to play with and I lag like hell when playing Tekken 5 already for living far from most Online players. :(
R5 @ Jan 19th 2008 7:12PM
Why all the Sega hate? Sega is already giving PS3 owners two exclusives titles later this year (Yakuza 3 and Valkyrie of the Battlefield) not to mention Sega believes the PS3 will come out on top in the future (which probably means more exclusive support). Sure, it sucks Sega isn't releasing a patch, but I have plenty of other titles to play online. Sega would be best using that time on future PS3 titles.
heckteck @ Jan 19th 2008 8:13PM
truthfully i hated this game with a passion.....i just don't like the games playing style.....i mean i love fighting games street fighter DOA mortal kombat Tekken etc but this game i just couldn't get into it......thank god my brother bought the game and i didn't lol even he hated the game hahaha but i think sega will redeem themselves with Valkyrie of the Battlefield if it comes to the states 'Crossing my Fingers"
WTF iz dat about @ Jan 19th 2008 9:28PM
I just got this game got $20 today so this kinda pisses me off buy oh well in the coming its going to be collecting dust when I pop in tekk3n 6
ted @ Jan 19th 2008 9:48PM
Sega is soo "resting on its laurels". What have you done for us lately Sega? I have given up on them. They seem totally oblivious. They seem to be able to get by just selling the number of units their reputation alone can move. EA is the same way, but at least they seem like they are trying... a little.
Capcom, Square, Sony and Nintendo have released great games for years and still seem driven to inovate and entertain.
Sega is a zombie, put a stake throught its heart. R.I.P.
Marius @ Jan 20th 2008 8:52AM
Sega I am now boycotting you forever. The way you ignorantly screw PS3 owners over, is very racismlike.
DrunkRaba @ Jan 20th 2008 12:07AM
Sega should die off some day.
Thomas @ Jan 20th 2008 12:41AM
Sega is full of it! First no online included for the game, and after all this time they won't even make a patch. I never should have bought this game. I definitely won't be buying anymore Sega games.. they even managed to mess up Virtua Tennis.
finelicker @ Jan 20th 2008 7:41AM
Sounds like SEGA is still bitter from the Dreamcast getting its ass handed to it by PS2?.
Oh well, like someone has already mentioned, SEGA won't be with us much longer. They haven't released a decent game for years. This time they will have no one else to blame apart from their own incompitence.
Milo @ Jan 20th 2008 9:19AM
Look at Sega's track record. They've dropped the ball on so many things, this is no surprise. Have fun w/ your Xbox user base Sega! Kiss my virtual @ss!
joshua @ Jan 20th 2008 10:31AM
Wow, Sega sucks.* Honestly, if they patched up VF5 for PS3 to add online I'd probably get it - they sold more copies and the d-pad on PS3 is much much much much MUCH better than the Xbox 360's d-pad. As is, I am not gonna bother with either.
*I don't think they totally suck, I loved Yakuza but really this sort of contempt for the people who actually bought their game shows why people hold Sega is such low regard nowadays.
Consolcwby @ Jan 20th 2008 9:36PM
Well, with the online aspect, I suppose since Live uses players to host games instead of a dedicated server then I can understand why the PS3 wouldn't get online. But as far as patches go, this is like taking your girlfriend out to dinner, ditching her and picking up a cheap slut who didn't put out. Sega needs to respect it's fan base, which is not (as so many people tend to forget) the majority of the 360s fanbase. Sega needs a new IP and quick.
